    Welcome to Page 14!39.gif

    repliesnewtq2.jpg

    Packersfan

The mileage sign in the last update looks like newer ones that have been recently installed on parts of I-95 and I-64 near Richmond in Virginia. Older tenth-mile markers installed in the '90s are much smaller than regular mile markers and just show the number. I've seen blue ones like you're talking about in several states.

    Jacqulina

Thanks. I recently downloaded some more trees so I have been playing around with where to put them and such.

    Will (Penguin007)

Thanks! And yes you did spot some use of the fractional angled roads. I've been enjoying replacing various roads with FAR's in certain places.

    Bruce (Schulmanator)

Thanks, glad you liked the services sign. So the mosquito traffic signal is common then in NC? I've only seen it in one place in VA and a couple places in MD. Though in the Richmond, VA suburbs, protected left turn signals often have two red lights on top of each other, so basically the same effect.

    Mother of Invention

    Thanks!

    KJ3400

Yes, we'll go to Adventure World today! I'm having fun working on Tidewater, it's still a while off to my standards for showing in a CJ, though.

    Edmonton_Stinks

Thanks, glad you liked the roads and Tidewater preview.

    Travis (SCDawg)

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the updates!

    And now...

    u28headerfz4.jpg

Most of the cool looking stuff in this update comes from the Modular Amusement Park Pack, found on the STEX.

Continuing north on SR-671/Mason Rd, we turn left at this intersection onto Adventure Drive.

    u28pic1ot7.jpg

    u28sign1as9.jpg

And voila! We're going to park and continue on foot from here.

    u28pic2eh4.jpg

And thus we wait to be admitted inside.

    u28pic3xc7.jpg

Lucky for us, we've been shopping at Mort's Market...

    u28pic4ag3.jpg

... because we got this coupon for 20% off admission!!

    u28pic5kr4.jpg

Now we're inside! Where shall we go first?? The bathrooms? The food stands? There are some rides too, I think.

    u28pic6wj7.jpg

A Ferris Wheel ride is always nice on a sunny day.

    u28pic7yc7.jpg

This drop zone is fun. It goes up slowly and then you feel like you're free falling. But more frightening yet is Sponge Bob's Krusty Krab Koaster for Kids.

    u28pic8bh2.jpg

And speaking of coasters, here's the classic, "The Adventurer." The wooden design reminds me of the Rebel Yell at Kings Dominion in Virginia, though it doesn't loop and curve as much as this, rather it goes backwards!

    u28pic9cy4.jpg

Here are some more modern coasters.

    u28pic10gy8.jpg

    u28pic11lt9.jpg

After all that excitement, it's time to make a splash at the water park.

    u28pic12bh3.jpg

    u28pic13td9.jpg

And before we leave, we must hit up the go-kart track...

    u28pic14nb3.jpg

... and the Haunted House which is haunted by frighteningly lame mechanical effects.

    u28pic15sy5.jpg

Alas, we leave after a day of fun.

    u28pic16pb0.jpg

And thus ends this drive from west to east along US-84 that we started back in February or March. We'll start a new drive soon, but I'll devote the next few updates to some miscelaneous stuff. Next up, the opening of the Wanata View Galleria.

Thanks for visiting, and hope you enjoyed the update.

    Here at last!

I am ready to have some serious fun! Umm... probably should not have had the footlong chili dog from the Crappy Food Stand (at least they get points for honesty!) right before I get on the Cyclone...

Ans one more thing: I challenge you to a go-kart race... one on one.

Awesome update with the theme park. I like the streams going through it. However from the evidence of the 1st pic it looks as if you need a slope mod am I right?

I really enjoyed this update Dan. Very nice theme park you got there, The Adventurer looks pretty sick. I also want in on the go-kart race.

Congrats on 400, Dan! It's been a while since I was here. 3.gif

I like how that diagonal intersection turned out, with the parking lots to the restaurants and shopping center all connected to a road. As I moved on to the main course of the update, I noticed the pretty good deals you can get around there. Free parking? That's pretty sweet. And that coupon was pretty helpful. Very nice layout of the whole amusement park, its realism really shows in that last overview shot! Can't wait for the next update.

Woohoo! Congratulations are in order for getting Winchester and the Massopax Piedmont to 400 posts!

    Bruce (Schulmanator)

That would be fun. Last time I went Go-Kart racing, which was in NC interestingly enough, part-way through my Go-Kart died! lol. But hopefully the ones at Adventure World are properly maintained.

    Haljackey

Thanks, it was fun putting together with all of the ploppables from the MAPP.

    Hunkske

Thanks, glad you like Adventure World and the interchanges. I really enjoy building interchanges, but you're right that it takes a lot of patience.

    Jacqulina

Thanks, Glad you like the use of Peg waterways and such in Adventure World.

    Will (Penguin007)

I should download a slope mod, usually I do it by using roads to smooth out areas and railroads to slope them nicely.

    SCDawg

Thanks. I would bet you would win in the go-kart race with your expertise. 4.gif

    Packersfan

I've actually never played Roller Coaster tycoon, though it's kind of like SC in that you build it and have to keep it profitable, right?

    Mother of Invention

LOL, now there would be a winning go-kart team.

    Equilibria

The MAPP is fun to play with, though I've never played Roller Coaster Tycoon.

    Ky72x

Thanks! Glad you liked the shopping center and Adventure World. With all the people coming out of Adventure World, both workers and visitors, Food Lion thought that would be a good location.

This mall was well worth the wait to see! All of the additional parking, like always, is a nice thing to include for a major shopping destination. Great work making that whole area, and also that excellent mall map. I liked the fact that you apply realism to everything, even the smaller things like this. Region views are always nice, kudos for including one in this update. 9.gif

Thanks for the gift card! Problem is, I can't really decide where to use it... Perhaps the hobby store or GameStop, I just don't know! 3.gif

That is one serious mall you got there Dan. It's huge. Thank you for the gift card, although I have no idea where to spend it. I figure out some way to spend it though. Thanks for the region view as well

just 1 quick question do you have a lot of train derailments near the Wanata View Galleria, just curious because in that opening shot of the WVG looks like it would be a bumpy ride on and maybe even off the rails...???

Awesome! I was already impressed and then I saw the mall...

a fabulous building in a fabulous setting - and the mall directory is your usual outstanding quality. I am thrille to have a gift card there. After all, the oly thing worth more than a Big Mac I ever won was a gift certificate to the used book store in my hometown. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!

The mall is kinda familiar... we have one here just off of Speedway Blvd too...

    Kyle (Ky72x)

Thanks! While I didn't used to, now I always add additional parking thinking about the frustration I feel when I go certain places and don't find parking. I may put in a few additional stores at the mall too, maybe you've got some suggestions of what else should go there?

    Haljackey

Thanks! That's the problem I have with gift cards, it's easy to spend the money quickly and I usually spend somewhat more than the gift card amount.

    Travis (SCDawg)

Thanks! Glad you liked the mall and regional views!

    BC_Rich_Warlock

There is a bump there, but the Massopax DOT has deemed it "safe" for all of the industrial cargo that goes through there daily. And it has recently been celebrated, 3 days since a derailment.

    Bruce (Schulmanator)

Thanks, wow that looks like a great cake, homemade and delicious! That's funny you've got a mall off of Speedway Blvd. The irony is that Winchester's Speedway Blvd used to be called Airport Blvd until recently.

    Lucky7

Thanks! Glad you liked the updates.

    Rusummer1

Thanks! The Prius should be perfect for driving through the Piedmont without polluting heavily.

    Will (Penguin007)

Thanks. I forget what it's called, but if you search "mall" on the Stex, you'll be able to find it. I want to say it's called "River Rock Mall" or "River Ridge Mall" or something like that on the Stex.

    Equilibria

Thanks, the parking lots are needed as they are the highest-volume Toyota dealer in Western Massopax. Then again they may be the ONLY Toyota dealer in Western Massopax.

    Jacqulina

Thanks, glad you liked the update and hope you find a store you enjoy spending the gift card at.

    Packersfan

Thanks, by mid-July we'll probably go on a new drive, possibly diagonally across the region, but of course going through Winchester. Good luck with the demand caps, some rewards and landmarks should help bust them.

I thought I'd post a quick update as I'll be out of town for a week or so.

As one might suspect, the building of the new Wanata View Galleria has probably ended Winchester Mall's tenure as a viable shopping destination.

    winchestermall1rc2.jpg

Sears recently moved from Winchester Mall to a new larger location at the Wanata View Galleria and Value City has been having trouble of its own company-wide and has been closing a lot of stores. Thus, this is what remains on the first floor of Winchester Mall. The second floor is completely empty.

    winchestermall2nr5.jpg

The only thing left may be to reclaim this land of the mall and build something new. One proposal, shown below, would be to demolish everything along the west side of US-27 Business/Kings Hwy from Backlick Rd to Leeland Rd, including the Food Lion. In its place would be a new mixed-use development. Additionally, the developer would help build, through a public-private partnership, an interchange for the busy intersection of Kings Hwy and Backlick Rd. Another proposal would be to build a new shopping center here, supposedly Target is interested.

    winchestermall3bq5.jpg

I thought I'd leave you with a couple pics of a bridge-tunnel I was working on for the new Tidewater region. I wanted to recreate the bridge-tunnels one would see in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. I thought that what I came up with looks pretty good, though I may work a bit more on the terrain.

    tunneltest1qj1.jpg

I tested it out in Driving mode. The first few times, coming out of the tunnel was difficult because the terrain was too steep, but after some work it was fine. Funnier yet is that one can fight fires underwater.

    tunneltest2ga2.jpg

See you on the flip side, thanks for visiting!

We have the dead mall problem in Charlotte too. The aforementioned speedway mall has killed the closer-in mall and the city is trying to jump start redevelopment. Gotta say that the amphibious fire truck is truly impressive! A first, I think!

Poor Winchester Mall...it had a good run! Sort of...

Love the underwater fire truck - fighting water with...water.

My favorite part so far has been Adventure World. And all the road signs (road geek here!)

    Keep up the good work!
