    Bruce (Schulmanator)

Thanks. The new stores in that patch of empty land will probably be of a big-box nature (Bed, Bath, and Beyond; Borders; Office Despot; etc.), though there might be a Mort's Market supermarket too, since they currently do not have a store in Deltown area.

    Equilibria

Whenever two 'streets' intersect, the resulting intersection is always a multi-way stop, so I change what I determine to be the more 'important' of the streets to a 'road' temporarily to avoid multi-way stop's except where I explicitly want them. As for the traffic signal, it's interesting fighting to get one put up as I'm currently doing for an intersection nearby to where I live.

    Simtastico

Ha! Thanks! For some reason I've always been fascinated by the engineering of roads (where they're put, interchanges, etc.) and traffic control (i.e. signs, signals, etc.).

    Jacqulina

Thanks, glad you liked the residential and rural areas.

    Rusummer1

Thanks, happy you liked the update.

    Edmonton_Stinks

Thanks. Hopefully my suburban sprawl will soon be enhanced by the house you posted on the Stex. Congratulations on that.

    Will (Penguin007)

It's interesting how, even from state to state, that there are differences in signs and signals. How are the signs different where you're from?

    u32header2ln6.jpg

We're continuing west on MP-165/Deltown Rd from the last update. As we get closer to I-79, MP-165 widens to four lanes. The area is also more densely developed as we cross SR-614/Van Delay Rd.

    u32pic7eb9.jpg

    u32sign5fd0.jpg

To the left down Van Delay Rd are some nice apartments like these (I apologize for the zots, not sure why they're there as the apartments are connected to the road). The apartments are fairly expensive for the area because of their quick access to I-79.

    u32pic8yi5.jpg

To the right on Van Delay Rd are more single-family homes. And more roads to avoid multi-way stops at every intersection.

    u32pic9yz3.jpg

Just before the next intersection (with SR-660) on MP-165, we see this sign as now we've got three lanes. The right lane eventually exits onto I-79 North.

    u32sign6sl0.jpg

Here is the intersection with SR-660/Gentry Drive and just past that, the ramp for I-79 Northbound.

    u32pic10mp2.jpg

    Signal at SR-660/Gentry Drive.

    u32sign7oa9.jpg

...and the sign at the exit for I-79 North. I-79 is multiplexed with US-27 (while Kings Hwy is US-27 Business). Notice the patches on the signs to patch over parts that used to have I-134.

    u32sign8be5.jpg

Here's the interchange zoomed-out. You can also see how SR-660 was cut through by this interchange as SR-660 once continued straight across as Barnett Rd (to avoid confusion, Barnett Rd was recently renumbered as SR-3060). We're going to get off here to go south on I-79 toward downtown Winchester.

    u32pic11ug3.jpg

    u32sign9nj0.jpg

So, next time, we'll continue the drive along the freeway. I have lots of good signage and interchanges ready.

Wait, are you saying you'd rather continue west down MP-165/Deltown Rd into Piedmont Heights? If that is your wish, click here and you'll be teleported back to the first page where we actually go into Piedmont Heights on MP-165 (once you scroll down to the bottom of the page and the drive continues on page 2).

Thanks for coming along for the ride!

What the??? How did I miss so many updates?

I gotta say that you have done some great work for the new one and the stuff I missed out on.

What's with all the no job zots?  Make some more jobs close to there STAT!

Nice signs as always, and I like the cloverleaf in the last picture.  Well done!

    Best,

    -Haljackey

More awesomeness... the signage is, as always, top quality. A pleasant update.

But, I would think the apts you featured would be cheaper due to their proximity to the interstate-- road noise and such.

Another awesome update I love the signs and that last intersection looks great. Well Im from the UK and you dont get as much signs telling where you are. You'll get signs telling you where to go for a town and sometimes where a motorway (highway) is. However on normal roads you wont get a sign telling you which road you are intersecting.

Thanks! There should be plenty more where that came from.

Have we seen Downtown Winchester yet? If so, I think I forget.

Great update! I really like the nice apartments, though it's a shame about the zots. Hopefully they'll disappear if you run the simulation for a while.

    Haljackey

Thanks, glad you liked the updates. I'm confused about the zots because I thought they were 'no road connection' zots, but obviously the apartments are hooked up to roads.

    Bruce (Schulmanator)

Thanks, plenty more great signage to come in this update! There's a little buffer between the houses and the interstate luckily so noise isn't too bad.

    Will (Penguin007)

Thanks. That's interesting how signage is different in the UK. So how do you know what road you're intersecting if there's no signage? On another note, I downloaded your hedge pack and look forward to using it in the near future.

    Edmonton_Stinks

Thanks. We have visited downtown Winchester on a couple of occasions, though it's been a while. In a couple of updates we should be there again, though.

    Retrodude818

I use powerpoint to make my signs and signals as well as graphics for the CJ. I should give a primer on how to do it sometime in the near future.

    u33headerwi3.jpg

Here's the view as now we're going south on I-79/US-27 toward downtown Winchester. The pond to the left is part of the apartment complex we saw in the last update.

    u33pic1hi4.jpg

Thus, as we're on the interstate, we see a plethora of signage.

    u33sign1le7.jpg

    u33sign2rg7.jpg

Further along, we pass under SR-614/Van Delay Rd. Looks like forclosure is a bit of a problem in one of the residential neighborhoods here.

    u33pic2dz6.jpg

Attached to the bridge is this aging sign for the next exit with SR-617/Backlick Rd.

    u33sign3fw3.jpg

The Winchester Zoo is at this exit! Below this sign used to be a sign for the now-defunct Winchester Mall.

    u33sign4mt6.jpg

Here's the gore point for Exit 152.

    u33pic3uv1.jpg

    u33sign5nm1.jpg

Here is Exit 152 zoomed-out. Formerly a simple diamond interchange, it has been converted into a SPUI interchange. I worked a long time to try to figure out a unique SPUI formation (I made a pretty crappy one a few years ago in Massopax River Valley). Nonetheless, I finally defaulted to one that Patricus Maximus used, but added slip ramps to it.

    u33pic4zh2.jpg

And while I plan to have us continue going south on I-79/US-27, here's a look at the signage on the ramps to Backlick Rd.

    u33sign6ri3.jpg

The SPUI traffic signal is high-tech as it is solar power and has video traffic detection systems.

    u33sign7jp0.jpg

We'll continue our freeway tour along I-79/US-27 next time as we inch closer to downtown Winchester!

Hope you enjoyed the update. Thanks for visiting.

How about emergency vehicle preemption? I can't quite tell what each of those elements on the gantry is.

Nice update. Did Massopax recently switch to milepost numbering, or is this just for the transition from 134 to 79?

Nice update again there I like the intersections as usaul. On your question you know where the main roads are like dual carriage way or motorway but we follow directions for towns, villages and cities not roads. thanks for downloading the pack!!

Wow man..you never stop your trips on road! I love those intersections and that solar powered signal with traffic camera is just amazing..I will put some of those in the busiest intersections of Assiniboine as well 2.gif

I like Van Delay Rd! Those homes look nice and they are in a good place. I would definately buy there a home bud! 3.gif

    Good work

I must remember not to live at Van Delay Road and I-79.

Great interchange at I-79 and Backlick. It looks quite realistic.

Dan- Just dropping by looking for inspiration- I'm never disappointed. I-79, btw, is one of my favorite RL Interstates. I once drove about 300 miles out of the way to do the whole Charleston (WV) to Erie (PA) experience.

Jacky (jacqulina) just made comment 500- I'm really pleased to be able to give you a start on the next lap around that track.

Wow, it's been a really long time since I visited. That sign could do with some replacing, though, it's really old. That is one unique SPUI at Exit 152. It reminds me of the one on MD 140 and I-695. Here's the link.

WOW! Thanks everyone for getting Winchester and the Massopax Piedmont to the 500th Reply milestone. Thanks so much for your support! And luckily there's much more to come!

    Equilibria

I forgot the emergency vehicle preemption beacon on that signal with everything else on the there lol. As for the exit number change, its a little of both as I-134 exits were numbered sequentially from North-to-South, now I-79 exits are numbered based on mileage from South-to-North.

    Haljackey

Thanks, there is a bit of a big slope going up to the midpoint of the SPUI.

    Manubeas

Thanks! Roads and infrastructure are some of my favorite things to do with SC4, so I'm happy you liked it.

    Duke87

Thanks, glad you like the signs. I agree that SignMaker is a neat utility, however I like the additional personal control when I make my signs using PowerPoint (such as making older looking signs, signs with newer Clearview font, etc.).

    Bruce (Schulmantor)

Thanks! I put an additional pedistal-mounted green arrow just in case as an added safety measure for people turning left off of the SPUI.

    Will (Penguin007)

Thanks. That's interesting about how roads are posted (or not) in the UK.  What is the logic behind the route numbering of UK dual-carriageways and motorways (i.e. A57, B24, etc.)? I always wondered that.

    Cristian (Asturianu)

Thanks! I've always thought that taking trips down roads in my region is the best and most fun way to show it off. Glad you like the signals and the residential areas off Van Delay Rd. The state of Massopax is really pushing the renewable energy, even in the traffic signals!

    Edmonton_Stinks

Thanks, glad you like the SPUI interchange. As for the foreclosed houses, often folks try to get rid of abandoned buildings, but I like keeping them in for realism.

    Benedict

Thanks. Most of the interstates here in Virginia have 511 signs like that.

    Twenty20

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the update.

    Jacqulina

Thanks, glad you liked the roads and signs! And even more thanks for Reply #500!!!

    David (Dedgren)

Thanks! I actually have never been on RL I-79, though I'd imagine it to be quite picturesque what with its route through the mountains. Maybe comparable would be I-70 through western PA, WV, and eastern OH which I have driven on.

    KJ3400

Wow that SPUI looks a lot like Exit 152 on I-79. Thanks for visiting. You'll be happy to see that most of the signs today are newer ones with Clearview.

    u34headerxy8.jpg

Upon passing SR-617/Backlick Rd, we are now in the city limits of Winchester as we continue south on I-79/US-27.

    u34pic1rj5.jpg

As we pass under Lomond Drive, we see this mileage sign for upcoming exits.

    u34sign1he5.jpg

    Further along on I-79/US-27.

    u34pic2ee4.jpg

The next exit, Exit 150, is US-84. Originally this was Exit 3 W-E when I-79 was I-134.

    u34sign2on4.jpg

Some auxillary signs here worth noting include a trailblazer for Mountain View Regional Airport as before it was built there was an airport here off of US-84 East. For some reason I forgot to make a sign for the Winchester Speedway... it's at Exit 150A.

    u34sign3ci9.jpg

Here's the gore point for Exit 150B....

    u34pic3eo3.jpg

    u34sign4yw9.jpg

We pass under US-84 before Exit 150A.

    u34pic4tw6.jpg

    u34sign5oh2.jpg

Here is Exit 150 in context, you can see the Wanata View Galleria and the Winchester-Piedmont Convention Center as well as the tangle of ramps involved here, which we've seen before but from a different angle.

    u34pic5gy7.jpg

Finally, an even more zoomed-out view shows us the we're on the edge of downtown Winchester.

    u34pic6nv9.jpg

Next time, we'll continue further south on I-79 as we burrow our way through downtown.

    Thanks for visiting!!
