I keep getting a error message about the settings, the one that comes up the first time you run it. It says to do a function -H, but that didn't work. Is there a way to bring the settings window up, or should I try to re-download it again?

when you download gmax you have to submit and add your personal details

-if you submit will this site be using my personal details e.g. phoning me, sending me letters?

-do you have to put in your ''real'' details- will the site investigate it?

-do you have to make any commitments when you join this site?

This is also a great thread. I am getting it now. (How this site works) Been reading a lot. Thanks to N_O_Body (what's a "NONNY MOOSE" anyway?) When I am ready to step into the ring of "BATing" I will most definitely come back to this thread for the tools.

If you're talking about buildings that are available on the STEX, see this post for instructions. If you are asking something about GMAX (since this is the GMAX thread) you might be more specific. Just a thought...

For Linux users:  I am currently working with winehq to get gmax working under wine.  If you want to play around with it and see what's not quite right at the moment, go ahead.  The current state is on the winehq appDB, just search for gmax.

    1. It will install, but you must select DirectX as the graphics option.  Otherwise, no go.
    2. There are problems with the materials editor
    3. The help system crashes (you have to download it separately from turbosquid).  The same problem occurs with the tutorial.  These are valid .chm files, and Linux can read them separately.
    4. Because of the problems, I haven't tried adding the BAT to it yet.
    5. Most other auxiliary SC4 programs work, including ilive's reader, with a little tweaking.
    6. The Landscape Designer has data base access problems, and I'm working on that too.

i know this is a old old post but this is a relevent response, to anyone who has googled this looking for a fix to installing Gmax, here it is i was having hte same issue installing it i finaly figured out hte issue was, simple logic, i searched for fraps onmy comp and moved fraps out of hte folder it was in, which was hte install folder same as gmax, go figure, and put it elsewhere, fraps happened to have been named Setup, which i think is why Gmax keeps trying to install it and other various programs, because they were all named setup and for some reason Gmax automaticly tries to install any file named setup in the folder its sitting in when you install it, so either move all those files named setup out of the download folder that gmax is in or move gmax elsehwere wihtout any folders named set up say desktop or document library or pictures/videos if thiers none thier etc... voila :/  it is frustrating though lol i kept geting fraps to try to install its maddening until you take hte time to think about it logically for a moment i was even like is it a virus lol

    your welcome :D

Since gmax is a self-contained exe it does not need any external libraries.  It is not written in a mono-type language.  If you want to use blender, then why not write your own export program to send your model to the BAT?

    A Nonny Moose=N O Body...Just got it after half a year. Haha. It's great.

Anyway, I'm late to the party, but I'm sure I understand the basics for making custom buildings and lots regarding gmax. But before I begin making my first lot, and since I already have this, is there a way to use AutoCAD 2014 instead? Or would it just be easier to get gmax? Just trying to see which option is easier.

I don't think autocad can output the necessary file format, which is where the fly is in the ointment.  For the time it takes, get gmax.

I found out you can use Autocad in conjunction with Gmax to get some neat designs (for the perfectionists). But you're right, I still need to get Gmax. It turned out to be a pretty easy install. Got it working on the first try.

Anyways, thanks for the insight. Now to get the BAT.
