1. Download gmax
2. Install gmax
3. Register gmax to get the number
4. Start up and configure gmax, and enter the number when asked (cut/paste)

yes you need Gmax as its the program but you need the BAT tool from the official site - basically gmax allows you to make the stuff and BAT adds bits on so you can make stuff for the game.

I have installed gmax i have updated simcity with "UPDATE_SKU1_TO_P1_B638.EXE" from the official site i have installed "SC4BATInstaller.exe" and i have installed "SC4Update4BAT.exe" and still i can't see any damn lights in my downloaded buildings. What more do i have to install? Did i do something wrong?

I downloaded Gmax, but it keeps installing Fraps in an endless loop until I stop it. O_O

@ everyone who's asked 'what's gmax?':

gmax is virtual 3D imaging software downloadable from many sites (like www.discreet.com) that allows you to create virtual objects. It is a dependency for the BAT.

The use of gmax for SC4 is for using the BAT, which is basically gmax with a few modifications to export the creations as SC4MODEL files (ie buildings) which can then be drafted into the game.

If you want to make custom buildings, get gmax.

Hope that makes sense.

By the way, the link will not take you directly to the gmax download-you'll have to find it.

Also, gmax is quite daunting when you first use it and takes a bit of getting used to. And making buildings takes forever. Seriously. (It took me 45 minutes to do a bus stop!)

Hi, i've tried downloading Gmax from Turbosquid.

It gets to the installer and says press next to continue. So when i press next, it says 'Registry Key Not Found' and then aborts the setup...

Anyone know how to solve this..? Its driving me mad...

Solved the problem - i needed to be logged on as an administrator. I hope this helps anyone if they are having the same problem.

All i want gmax for is to install bat and then the bat update so i can get nightlighting on my downloads. at autodesk it would cost a 3andahalf thousand dollars. it should cost nothing or at least only a few dollars or euros or whatever. the last comment on this thread shows that turbosquid is no longer an option. i dont even want gmax i'm a beginer with no money and all i want is the NIGHTLIGHTING. is that too much to ask, someone PLEASE HELP!

You don't need gMax/B.A.T to have the nightlights working.  All you need is the game update patch installed, plus the SC4update4BAT.exe installed.

Hi, does anybody know how to change the Mcdrye 's "Make your own Vegas Sign" , I downloaded the Gmax, and open his file that he made and he said just edit make changes , I don't see where the change needs to be replaced, because the missing prop in the sign made its not there. So does anybody know what that means??

Try merging the file into gmax, instead of opening it.  Then save it as a new .gmax file in your scenes folder.
