How do I make roundabouts?

Hi! I have January's NAM, and I'd like to know how to make big rounabouts. I have followed a tutorial here but the central space is 1x1 and I've seen roundabouts where this space is 2x2. I have tried everything I've thought of; if I try to make them doing a circle (but leaving a 2x2 sapace) I get a square, if I make it with the avenue and try to delete the central part, I delete the whole thing... (Just last night, I spent 5 hours trying to figure them out). I'd love it if someone could show me what I have to do (better if it is with pictures, but a very detailed description should work) Thanks in advance.

The roundabouts with a 2x2 center tile are Avenue Roundabouts. They're only available in the May/June NAM.

You need to download the new NAM (june) from the modds + download section and then read everything carefully when installing it. run the game and in the road menu select avenue roundabout and plop it (see the read-me included with the NAM for more information on plopping it) you can then delete the four squares inside the roundabout.

My avenue roundabouts don't plop from this new NAM, the avenue intersection menu is so srewed up, I don't even get a red arrow, its just grey. The same goes for some GLR pieces. Anyway, for the traffic circles, I try drawing one ways in a circle. My avenue roundabouts don't look like good ones that work with this new NAM I got. I have though, put one ways around, and wrap them around in a circle, well almost, 2/4 of the pieces look squared, but the other 2 corners seem well rounded. Basically it is the same effect. The only thing I complain about is traffic because moving the same direction, in the left lane, trying to make a right, so the all cut me off. It makes no sense, crossing paths from the wrong lane to turn. ARGHHH!

EDIT Now, all this junk will work for me, only by certain re arrangements, see my post from July 09. The only problem is, cars still turn from the wrong lanes.

Avenue Roundabouts are a ploppable Puzzle Piece found in your Menus. GLR Draggable, well it tells you how to do it in the read me. Plop the puzzle piece and drag an EL-Rail out of it.

If you cant find these puzzle pieces you must not have installed the right components of the NAM and you should re-read the read me for the right components. GLR is a separate download, dont forget that.

Didn't know that about the GLR, but about the roundabout, I don't get a ploppable piece, I don't get anything  when I select it. I've read the readme for the right componets several times and still to no avail!

Try looking in your plugins folder that is in the NAM folder (My Documents>SimCity 4>Plugins>Network Addon Modd>Plugins) for a file which has something like avenue roundabouts, if you don't then reinstall the NAM and install everything. Also make sure you remove the previous NAM before installing the current one.

if you go to the omnibus, I created a roundabout tutorial that should help you out. Keep in mind it doesn't have any mention of the avenue roundabouts as it was created prior to the June release of the NAM.

If you have any questions please PM me.

You need to go into your plugins folder and actually delete all the old NAM files yourself. Installing the new one over top of the old one did not work for me. I had to remove the old one myself before installing the new one.

I'm having the same problem as a few others. The roundabout, as well as some other things like the diagonal street helper (which worked for me before I got the June NAM), aren't working. Nothing plops, and as azninoverdrive mentioned, the hovering tile isn't even red, it's grey.

Read my above post again and try it... delete ALL of the old NAM files BEFORE you install the new one.

theres a simple solution to the gray arrow, figured it out yesterday. if you go to graphics options theres a checkbox that says "color cursor" mine was off when i found it. that may save some people unnessacary installing. 3.gif

I uninstalled NAM, used the BSC cleanitol thing and realized that I had two plugins from the stex that needed to be deleted. After reinstalling NAM, I don't have the problem anymore.

What I've done to solve problems with the June NAM. The only way I got mine to work is to rename plugins, to plugins1, and then do a new plugins folder, completely empty, but then installing the nam AGAIN, into this blank folder, with all features selected. Then, and only then, will you see the dragable GLR, Avenue Intersections, and all that jazz, once you start playing. Yes I know all the lots that were in your plugins which will be missing once you do this will look really weird as either boxes or tall buildings, but its worth it. I just edit the roads and rails, and then leave the game. From there, I then rename plugins to pluginN, and then rename plugins1, back to plugins. I play the game again. I then have all my missing buildings back, even though I can't get the game to do stuff like dragable GLR, and Avenue Puzzle pieces anymore, but the remaining ones already plopped still show. Just repeat this multiple times, I gurantee it will work. THE ONLY THING IS DO NOT PLOP THE AVENUE Y, at all, after testing, I found it will crash your game.

Hmm... all I get is a red arrow all the time. Is that what you guys are talking about?

azninoverdrive

What you're doing is highly unadvisable. By renaming the old plugins folder, containing the old NAM files, you're replacing the new NAM files. If you plop any of the new NAM pieces in your cities, they will mess up.

Warning to other users considering azninoverdrive's solution: DON'T DO IT!

Remove ALL old NAM files, Transit bug fixes, etc. from your folders. BOTH plugins folders. Red arrows mean that the NAM components aren't working right. The ONLY reason for them not to work right is the contents of your plugins folders.

My advice would be to completely empty your plugins folders, install the NAM, and then put the plugins in one by one. I think I might make an Omnibus article about how to easily identify faulty plugins.

Here's the file that was causing my error the whole time:

RHW-public-v012.dat

I don't suggest you delete, but I do suggest that you at least search for it in your plugins and if you have it, you may want to remove it and see if it repairs your problems; however, I'm not sure what will happen if you remove that file, so don't blame me if you run into missing lots, etc.

WRONG. My way was not a problem for me, emptying would take too long. The new NAM pieces worked fine, and still do. NOT FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS WILL CAUSE PROBLEMS. I just moved files, so nothing gets replaced, just functional.

The old NAM was unistalled before I moved everything DUH! 2 won't work, and I would think cause a PC crash. I DIDN'T REPLACE NAM WITH NAM, I just meant, install the NAM into a new plugins folder fresh, with nothing else interfering. Its hard to tell what plugins will interfere, so that was the only way to go. It works for me. AND OBVIOUSLY RID THE OLD ONE.

Moving plugins was a lot harder, and takes longer. So I just renamed the junk, not interfering with the NAM. Once I had NAM working, I simply moved it. Later, I learned stuff with overides, z's, and ddl files, cause interference. But as it turned out, the RHW, not necessarilly 12, but the RHW in general does not seem to get along, and I'm talking with essentials, I think its the TEXTURE MOD CAUSING THE PROBLEM.

Those of you who cant figure out how to get the June NAM to work, goto the readme.  There is a VERY helpful tutorial within the readme.

Aznoverdrive,  I am sorry you are wrong.  The best way to install the June NAM is by using the BSC Cleanitol.  It will remove any outdated file you dont need.  That way you dont have to create a new folder and start moving things one by one as you are suggesting.  If you dont follow the readme you are just asking for things to go wrong.

For those who are wondering why RHW v12 and previous do not work properly.  SC4 has a central RUL system that allows textures to be overriden.  ANY new functional intersections, puzzle piece, networks like RHW, etc.  all make changes to the 3 central RULs.  So every time a new addition comes out that updates these 3 central RULs the NAM had to be updated or conflict would occur.  NOW, instead of updating the NAM we only have to update the NAM Essentials which contains these 3 central RULs.  If you have an outdated version the essentials file, which are in alot of old outdated mods like RHW v12 and earlier, then these mods will conflict with June NAM and will either cause the mod not to work or the latest pieces of NAM not to work.
