I think it looks better by itself, but that's just me.

Oh I do agree with pingangster 100%. I find that a contemporary building such as this one, looks out of place using the old building as its base. I was just stating that as an option scotty could take.

Yeah i agree that these sort of buildings dont suit being on top of an older building so im not goin to play with any ideas using the herald sun

anyway even if i did use it there would be some shadow problems in matching them up

    Something smaller i did quickly

i also has a podium on the bottom with some retail that i still have to model

    Hello Scotty222, Jack wilds here...

I truly enjoy your bat work particularly the window textures and tower architecture and cladding choices... so many teasers... so many pics of projects in various stages... any insight as to what to expect to be released, to be added to my ski line? I really like HSBC Shanghai Tower... trust that this 'holler' from northwoods WI will reach downunder...

It is. It would fit nicely into the Midtown "business area" of any city!

Jack_wilds - I know i tease alot lol, i dont know for sure which ones i will finish im not good at finishin things, im fairly sure i will finish the HSBC tho cause it just needs nightlights

Ive textured the Mercure (which is a hotel in Auckland by the way) and i think it looks fairly good

ignore the green canopy (or whatever you call it) over the base its just to show wat sorta colour its supposed to be, ill texture it properly once i remember what actually occupies that spot

(i think its a travel agents but i cant remember the name)

    mercure3aj3.jpg

Im not sure about the skylights, theyre only theer cause in RL theres absolutley nothing on the roof of the podium (well except the building 4.gif )

I love this one, I can't get enough of these mid rise buildings. The ad on the side seems a bit out of place, perhaps that is just due to how much it contrasts with the rest of the building. As for the skylights, I think they would look more homogeneous if you made the glass color more in line with the colors in the rest of the building (a bit darker, more desaturated). But I really like this one regardless.

Very nice, and good to see a midrise! 4.gif

I second what ToDDy said about the advertisement, though. The skylights are a nice idea, but somehow they look a bit out of place the way they are now, because they don't line up with any other part of the building. If you look at the floors below that roof and the first floor above the podium, there's a vertical division into five sections. Perhaps it would look nice if you aligned the skylights to this partition and skipped every second section so there would be a skylight in the 2nd and 4th section, for example - or in the 1st, 3rd and 5th.

Another detail I'm not sure about is the ground floor. Is it tall enough? I have the impression that it looks somewhat squashed and could safely be made quite a bit taller. However, I might be wrong because the canopy hides most of the ground floor and makes it hard to see how tall it really is.

Apart from these minor quibbles, I gotta say I really love this building so far!

This looks really great and is the kind of mid-rise that immediately makes it into my plugins folder. The roof has some nice details without being over done. I personally think the ad is fine (I might brighten it just a few shades so it's not so black), but it doesn't bother me at all. I think it's a nice detail. I agree with T Wrecks though about the ground floor. Could be that the building hangs out over the sidewalk but it seems kind of squat.

I thought the same thing.  The ground floor seems to me that it should be a bit taller.  Otherwise, woohoo, more midrises!

andisart - ill try to get a night shot of it tomorrow or monday

SimHoTToDDy - ill keep that in mind about the skylight, they look strange for a couple of reason ill tweak them a bit

as for the ad i think the intention of it RL is to stand out, but your right it could probably be less black and more of a dark gray

T Wrecks - ive move the skylights around a bit and will show some pics soon, ive also figured out what to put in the empty space left (it may not be liked but oh well)

The ground floor is quite tall already at present the canopy is quite large as the real building is in a very pedestianized area of auckland (right next to britomart station)

Today i started something ive been meaning to do for a very long time

Wow this is a great one! But how about your other projects? Just kidding, this will be very welcome, it being such a well known building and all. Great job and I can't wait to see more.

Ahh, education... all that enlightenment gets in the way of everything doesn't it? Its alright, we all have to deal with it at some point or another, but you still have a pretty cool new model for being so occupied otherwise.

Good luck buddy, they say the first year is always the hardest (that is before you start the second year 3.gif ).
