Do you really read long posts? Be honest

I was just wondering. Who here reads long posts in the forums? I mean, I know that everyone reads the first post no matter how long, in order to know what the thread is about, but some of the posts in the middle of the thread?

Do you really read those carefully and fully? I must confess that sometimes I skim through some posts, or don't read some at all. This usually happens when I'm in a hurry or busy.

I feel guilty about this, because I know how long it took the person to write the post and how much they put into making it interesting. So lately I have been trying to read every post. Also I make my posts seperated in paragraphs to make it easier to read.

Hmm... that poll doesn't work 34.gif.

I do read long posts most of the time, but if i'm in a hurry, I just quickly go through it.

Why does one drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?

Why is delivery by boat called a cargo and one by land called a shipment?

I would have taken the poll, but I got bored after the first paragraph and didn't finish reading the post18.gif

BTW, I do read an entire post.  I usually don't look at threads unless they interest me anyway.

I read by picking out key words while scanning over something. If something catches my attention, I got back and read it a bit slower to get a better idea of what it is. I always read short posts, but in threads where everyone is writing essays to each other, I just read a few sentences here and there.

I have been known to write long posts as well.. You should see some of the posts at other forums. 150 pages of essays14.gif This place is kids stuff3.gif

Yeah, I usually always read long posts if they appear to be in a thread that interests me. If not, lol, nope. Something else is CJs...some people come up with MASSIVE story-lines, yet, all anyone wants, is pictures...7.gif

I read almost all long posts if I'm going over a thread and reading it all... If I'm only idly reading random threads, then no.

No definetly not. I am meaning that is is annoying how ppl never read the awesome CJ storylines. The story literaly makes the CJ!

It depends on the topic. If it's interesting, I will read it.

It depends. After all, brevity is better than pompousness.

Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. If the topic intrests me and if I still have any patience left in me, I'll read it all. if not, I'll quickly skim through it or not look at it.

Opps. 43.gif I actually wrote this thread when I was very low on time. I finished writing the thread and went to make the poll, but ran out of time, and just thought, forget the whole thing. I had no idea the thread actually got posted.

I really wanted to take that poll btw. Its interesting to know how many people read long posts. Is there still some way I can fix my poll?

Let's see here...I usually read all thep osts if its in a topic or thread that I'm interested in. Otherwise, I usually just read the keywords and briefly scan the thread. 44.gif

About the only time I bother to read long posts is if they are in a CJ. Any other times, I just look at pats of it.

I read all long posts to do with the NAM, GLR and other related modding posts and all of The 7 Trumpets's long posts because they are always full of useful info if you read them closely3.gif

I have to admit if it is a long post , i will not completely read it all , i will skim it , picking up on the main gist of it , picking out anything that stands out or gets my attention

But no , if it is very long i will not properly read it

I've been taught in various workshops that unless you're proofreading something, which I have to do for a living anyway21.gif, or reading for pleasure, which I seldom as much as I would like  31.gif'); height=15 alt=Insert smilie 31.gif src=https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/31.gif width=15 border=0>, that it's not necessary to read everything in a writing to get the main points.  Skimming works quite fine.

I've also been taught that the fewer words to convey a point the better; I'm still working on trying to improve in that one.41.gif

Since I have been known to make really long forum posts, I generally like to skim others' long posts at the very least, it's only fair 2.gif

Ok so from what I seen in this thread, most people read all the posts if they are interested in what they are reading.

I wish I could make that poll again. I bet more people would vote, and we would find out what most of the site does.

In CJs, I tend to go straight for the pictures and ignore the words.

In other threads (that interest me), I read the first few pages, get the gist of the topic, and then go straight to the end 3.gif. I read everything that's under 4 or 5 pages long. Anything more and I tune out, unless it's exceptionally good or useful.

I didn't read the whole original post because it was too long, so I'm not sure if I'm answering the whole question, but I'm just saying no....
