It's a rail mod, and doesn't involve lots. As usual, there's no release date, so please don't ask when it's done. 3.gifquote>

Wow.  This is exactly what I want.  I won't ask when, but I can't wait for it to come out.

oh, that image didn't show up before, nice mod! I can't wait also. What about the bridge? Are there bridges out for the heavy rail? How do you get asphalt for the highway? Is that the rural HY in yer pic?

@mindaugas: No, that's no highway, but an avenue, using the overpass and on-slope puzzle pieces from the NAM. The rail bridge is made with a modified version of buddybud's overpass lots.

@Ill Tonkso: Well, those lots were some inspiration for my mod, obviously. They have some advantages, such as indivdual placement and the possibility to cover two rows of tiles at the same time, but obviously, they need a lot room for the lots.

Apart from the mod, we will also publish some lots that can cover more than one tile, and we'll make the base texture transparent, so you can use any terrain mod and any rail textures mod. Here's another preview pic:

Don't mind the support that stands directly on the switch, that happens if you're too fast with placing those things. 2.gif

I always use rail when starting a new city, and usually keep it throughout the city's history. I use the hole digging lots when I need to avoid dense areas. These new mods willonly make me want to make more railways! Nice!

I use rail when I build dense residential subdivisions that are far away from downtown/ the industrial areas of my city.  I will then create a direct line with 1-3 stops total that connects the subdivision to the jobs.  It usually works fairly well with 800-1000 riders daily.

Slightly off topic:  is there a mod available that will make the dirt texture always appear under the tracks?  I hate it when i have 3-4 parallel tracks and the dirt doesn't appear on the center ones.

That key system I use for my transit network can be found in the Modds and Downloads Section and the top of the page below the Simtrop banner, errr I forgotten what it is called but look carefully on pages one or two and it should be there.

I'll see if I can get a link

And the link I have found (on page 8)https://www.simtropolis.com/modding/index.cfm?p=details&id=259 That is it there

This is a 39 year old city with no industry, all commute to a neighboor using HR and HSRP. It works great 4.gif

I don't use rail often for modern cities, but if I'm trying to make a older looking city I try to make rail the make form of transportation.

it may not be as professional as the rail networks of ill tonkso and andreas roth but I love using regular rail as a the main transit system. as you can see it even looks aesthetic in rocky residential areas. and it even takes its effect. this area counts 30.000 inhabitants and 20.000 already use the rail.

I use ground rail for my industrial cities, which is connected with the monorail and/or the elevated rail that crosses my dense residential areas. For rural areas, ground rail is ok!

When i build a city and it's a small town, i start to build heavy rails for the passenger and freight trains. Usually i use the N.A.M. elevated heavy rails for safer transportation and sometimes the underground rails (not the subway but the rails under roads from N.A.M.)When the city i big enough i start to built tram (G.L.R.) and El rails (E.L.R.). I prefer to create the tram rails in avenues, roads and streets to save space, while i build the EL rails over important roads and streets when traffic it's become a bit too much. Ground and Elevated light rails are connected with each other to create a better system. When the city is bigger, subway rails are on their way. I prefer a grid style of subways because it allow Sims to go everywhere they want without the need of cars. At the same time, light and heavy rails are still expanded. Finally when the city is big enough, i build monorail and High Speed Rails (both ground and elevated) that connects my city with the others.

As you can see, i use ALL kind of rails 18.gif ! And because i also have connectors (Heavy rail <--> El rail, Heavy rail <--> Subway, H.S.R. <--> Subway), my Sims will prefer rails than cars. Oh, and i build bus stops next to every station for a better transportation system 9.gif

Yeah when i build a city I use all types of rails also. For me Heavy rail is used to connect distant suburban areas throughout the region like a commutor rail network, and all lines terminate at the CBD. Subways are used for my CBD, and lines become mostly elevated in mid-density residential areas. I feet it gives them more character. Most subway lines cross a major heavy rail station for added connectivity. In my suburban areas i use bus and now GLR to connect distant subdivisions to the nearest comuter rail station.

I use rail so much, I have a region of 800,000 and since im using simulator Z almost every sim uses some type of rail transportation. I'm trying to build a freeway network too but its almost never used...EVER (but im okay with that!)   10.gif

At least for my City Journal, all of my major cities have GLR (mostly in-road) in the "old" part of town, since that's how cities developed between 1870-1940. These morph into EL or subways when appropriate. San Francisco, my hometown (see my icon) is a city that has an old-school tram network that turns into a subway downtown.

I still use commuter rails often (I have to diciplin my self to keep the stations apart!).

There are more rail stations than I first through, but you need to varry your search terms. Try theres:

    Station

    Depot

    Terminal

    passenger

    Metro

    Subruban

I always use some form of rail. EL-rail, GLR, subway, heavy rail... I can garuntee that in every one of my cities, I have at least one of those forms of rail. Lately though, I've been using more rail than I usually do, with all of those mentioned above in my newer cities. I've never used heavy rail much, but now I'm starting to use it more and more, with one citiy having a monopoly of lines and tunnels, with several stations to accomadate them. This is also realistic, as most major cities today have a railraod running through them. I don't, however, like to use those heavy rail to elevated rail connections, though, as I don't find that to be realistic. I know it can connect every form of rail together, but it just doesn't look right to me.

Since I live here in the Midwest, in the US, it's hard not to use rail. Pretty much every single town and city is connected by railway, thus there is alot of town to town communting both on rail and roadways. Many of the larger towns are located where there are many rail lines going to and from the ciy, while many of the smaller towns just have the one line coming through them, so many of the downtowns/main "streets" are located either on the railway or very close to it.

I have to use rail. Its my namesake. With the new Single Track Rail stuff (on the LEX if you're interested), you can add a whole new dimension to the rail networks. Now I tack on sidings and whole modular yards to my networks. Its a madhouse if you try to do a UDI mission through it, but it looks good.

I only use rail both single and double, my cities never grow big, and tram only make my game crash,  so i spend time on cool railway intersections, and the nature around it  3.gif.
