This is a simply astonishing achievement.  You've completely revived my flagging interest in playing SC4.
  2. HBS Californian Terrain Mod

Wow, great! Those pics look like they're right out of Marin county!
  3. Low Wealth Rowhomes

These are incredible BATs, they look just like hundreds of streets in Brooklyn.
  4. nybt NYBT 77 Water Street

Great BAT and a cool story. Who would expect real estate developers to have a sense of humor? :)

On a related note, I would assume downtown is on the south side of a city. I know New York has a midtown, home of the Empire State Building and such, a downtown, home of Battery Park, and the middle of the two is SoHo (I think). But it really doesn't matter that much. On a related note, everyone's midtown (or transitional districts, as I call them) looks great! I especially like Retep Molinari's with the spiral-staircase kind of building. quote> That definition really only happens to apply to Manhattan. To use a close by example, "downtown Brooklyn" is at the extreme west of the borough. Downtown Boston is in the northeast of the city. Sacramento's (my home town) down town is surrounded on 2 sides (south and east) by the area referred to as midtown Sacramento. In order to keep this post on topie, here's a shot from my philly-based city:
  6. City Layouts

In urban areas, I tend to use rectangular (4x-8-12 tiles) blocks, ala NYC or SF. Looking at it from a "manhattan perspective", I make the "street" sides of the block primarily residential, and the "avenue" sires primarily commercial, obviously with some variation. This allows for the wider avenues to have RTMT stations or el-over-road since it's mostly commercial. It's also easy to place squares and parks to break up the grid a bit. Keeping the commercial and res mixed up like that at least kindof makes up for the fact that SC4 lacks mixed use zones, it lets more folks walk to work and transit. |-------------| |ccrrrrrrrcc| |ccrrrrrrrcc| |ccrrrrrrrcc| |ccrrrrrrrcc| |-------------| |ccrrrrrrrcc| |ccrrrrrrrcc| |ccrrrrrrrcc| |ccrrrrrrrcc| |-------------|
  7. New Official BAT Request Thread

Is it possible to create a Slope Tool as compared to one of the several mods? I'm picturing something where you set the elevation and point a, and elevation at point b, then drag something between them which creates a gradual slope between the 2 points.
  8. BATs Currently in Progress

This is something I worked up today, based loosely off a photo of an apartment I saw in Montreal. I need to export it to max and texture it, light it, etc. And another one based on a building in the same photo.
  9. New Official BAT Request Thread

I'd love to see some train (or GLR) stations that are accessible from a road overpass, like the Queens Park Underground station, here: I made a very simple mockup in sketchup to show the concept and see if it's even doable. It would obviously have to be overhanging, etc, to allow the platforms to go all the way underneath the road above. I know there is a small version similar to this out there already, but ones like I posted above are pretty common on London, and I think would be a very cool addition to the game.
  10. NAM: Requests

Oops, my mistake. Is there another official request thread for lots around? I've done the station next to the overpass thing and it works great, I just love the way stations like that look.

An English-style village I've been working on.

I don't suppose anyone's interested in working on a GLR texture mod that makes the rural GLR look a little bit more like actual rail? In a lot of places, light rail runs on disused heavy rail tracks outside of urban city centers, and it would be cool to be able to recreate that look in the game.
  14. Worst buildings in your home town

Believe it or not, this is a cathedral here in San Francisco:
