Schulmanicus: The Media Had It Right

    schulmanicusmastheadat5.jpg

If you read your trade publications and local periodicals, perhaps you noticed this just a few short months ago.

    slide1sc1.jpg

    slide2fn2.jpg

Now, after several months, it is time to see the difference a group of frisky feline investors with significant cash reserves can accomplish. Also, we can see the impact the brash mayor of Wanda has had on the town since the annexation of Newport. In this update, we see the upgrade to the facilities at Baby Busscastle, the production center for Busscastle Chocolates.

    busscastlechocolatesqa9.jpg

Busscastle Chocolates became the first business in Schulmania to receive its own official emblem. This seal, featuring a stylized castle, is permitted to use a crown. Only cats and feline-related entities are accorded this honor.

To provide for the increased capacity of the facility, worker homes have been relocated and expanded. And, the Busscastle Business Journal was correct - a new ferry port has been built south of the castle.

The highlights of the progress made in Busscastle shown today will include the landscaping and transit grid around Baby Busscastle, the reforested hills outside the main castle, and the redevelopment of the outlying homes. The company and workers are served by a new port, which also facilitates commerce and tourism. The company provides free tours and free samples to anyone who wants to experience the joy of chocolate.

    lands1mw4.jpg

The new, finely designed cobblestone road between Busscastle and Wanda

    lands2xa0.jpg

Ancient fields are now once again surrounded by lush forest

    lands3rs0.jpg

The flag of Schulmania marks the entrance to Busscastle

    PART 1: THE BIG REVEAL

The lavish feline spending upgraded the production area inside Baby Busscastle and provided for a major upgrade in the landscaping around it. New transit routes and upgrades have also been made. The Mayor of Busscastle, W. P. Buttershooter, is quite pleased with the outcome - even more pleased that the schulmonetas came from the feline consortium and not the city coffers! The landscaping won this spring's Garden Club Gold Medal from the Schulmanicus Garden Club. Three cheers for the landscape designer - Ava Henry!

    bb2kr2.jpg

One of the improvements was an upgrade to the cobblestone road between Busscastle and Wanda. A nice stone walkway was built around the hillside site to allow workers and residents to enjoy the newly planted trees and well-kept grounds.

    bb1ft5.jpg

From this view, more of the grounds around Baby Busscastle can be seen. At the east end of the property, a pair of Schulmania flags flutter in the breeze. The towns of Schulmanicus seem to be gravitating toward the paired flags as a town boundary marker, much as the towns of Lake George have used paired gates. So far, Busscastle and Wanda have elected to use such markers.

    bb3wi2.jpg

From across the street, Baby Busscastle is an imposing yet graceful introduction to the town. Nestled against the town boundary, this chocolate production facility is as easy on the eyes and its candies are on the palate! The Supreme Wirdle herself presided over the grand re-opening of the new headquarters of Busscastle Chocolates.

    bb4iu7.jpg

In a wider view, the flagship of Busscastle Chocolates is a perfect companion to a refurbished Busscastle town. The relocated and expanded worker housing village is just below the frame. The ferry port is below and to the left.

    PART 2: CASTLE TIME

The old castle which is the heart of town has not been expanded, though it probably needs it. Strict preservation laws forced the development of outlying lands. The original settlements outside the castle walls were mostly small wooden frame homes along a cobblestone path. Unfortunately, this same path serves as the best access from Buss Hill to the shore. A ferry port would be needed at that site. So, Busscastle Chocolates paid to have the homes relocated in a cluster around a small square further inland, near the company headquarters. The company also paid for some sprucing up of the castle itself. Stones were scrubbed and new mortar put in to secure and stabilize the castle's ancient walls. In conjunction with this effort, the thinned forests around the castle wee replenished with plantings by the park service. In this update, we will examine the castle and see the fine restoration work done by master stonemasons Excalibur & Lancelot's Swords 'n Stones of Busscastle.

    bc6wl8.jpg

The fine old castle never looked better. New banners were hung to celebrate spring's arrival. Normally, the blue banner of Busscastle flutters from the tower. But, special events over the course of the year necessitate special banners. A team of seamstresses are working now on the new Coronation Day banners for the Supreme Wirdle's visit.

    bc5wz0.jpg

The towers and turrets look just as good as the day they were dedicated, centuries ago. Many enjoy the incredible views from the roofs of the towers overlooking the sea.

    bc1st7.jpg

    bc4ip9.jpg

The trench around the castle has been filled in with walkways, flowers, and flowering trees. The cats like this much better - their paws are not as dirty when they come back in their houses.

    bc2ma4.jpg

With the new housing cluster being built south of Baby Busscastle, some of the old homes inside the castle walls are being converted into shops.

    bc3ru2.jpg

    bc8sg0.jpg

The new plantings have replenished the forest around the castle very well.

    bc7js6.jpg

The thick new forest partially obscures the view of the open water, but the beauty of the trees more than compensates for it.
