Lynx will attend, of course. Hopefully, the mystery of all these contraptions will be explained. These little round, black discs for example... Anyway... he'll be there.

    Informal Survey

Which style of pennant do you prefer for the parade on May 22? Seamstresses are in a quandry and cannot decide. Whichever you select will be the official pennant of the parade!

    Devonshire: The Vision for Schulmericho

We now turn out attention away from the alluring shores of Lake George. There's a lot more to discover and develop in Devonshire. Today, we look at the ambitious plans for the new town of Schulmericho. This massive development is planned to straddle the shoreline where Devon Creek meets the World Ocean. The vision for this town calls for a huge city, surpassing even Gran Maru, as the focal point for significant development of the new eastern lands. To handle the unique geographical challenges of the land, new engineering obstacles must be overcome. To handle this mammoth design and construction project, Y-12 Engineering Complex of Gran Maru was selected by the Supreme Wirdle.

Let's examine the land in question and the efforts thus far to terraform the land and prepare the townsite.

    devonshiremap1jv8.jpg

The Devon Creek area can be seen in the upper left. It is south southwest of Lake George and the projected town site consists of the shoreline east to Devon Ridge and South Devon Ridge.

    projectmaped7.jpg

The official map, showing the massive area proposed for Schulmericho. The land area is somewhat larger than Gran Maru, but the planned density of the core area is higher. Residential areas are slated to have unprecedented low density.

    s1cj1.jpg

The south side of Devon Creek has been extensively terraformed by Y-12's contractors.

    s2is0.jpg

The worker camp on one shore of Devon Creek. This project is so vast that 5% of the whole population of Schulmania is engaged in its development.

    s3nh3.jpg

The north shore of Devon Creek, from Getthepoint to Devon Ridge, is also being terraformed to accommodate a town whose projected population, upon completion, may top 2/3 of Schulmania's total current population - 50,000 residents.

To reduce commute time and to facilitate trade and connectivity, Y-12 Engineers have proposed a novelty - a new invention called the "bridge". This new concept would have an elevated road cross over the creek. No one has before built a structure on water, other than docks. Several competing ideas of how such a bridge would be constructed have been circulating at the administrative center for colonial development. Here's what some planners have envisioned:

    bridge5cl2.jpg

The architects selected to lay out the town have been working with the City Planning Office to develop a dense grid of streets on the south shore and a fan of 4 streets radiating east and northeast from the bridge terminus on the north shore. These two would be connected by the bridge and both connect into a larger grid of streets leading to the interior. In the center of the area, a large park would be the focal point of the town, flanked on north and south by district government offices and religious and feline buildings.

A sample of what has been envisioned.

While the great plans are being finalized, we'll head back to Lake George to see the other villages being developed there.
