Sorry, Clint. We don't have air travel yet. But, if you are pals with any cats, the cats have transwarp conduits which connect to the Bureau of Feline Affairs HQ in Temple Terrace. For a bri... I mean donation of a few cans of tuna, I am sure a kitty would send you over in time for the coronation. If you can make it, here's a free ticket:

I am honored to be her royal majesty's guest. I will be flying in from my hometown of Kenosha, Wisconsin via Milwaukee and Azalea District, Manitoba Canada (Region of Baker) to Schulmania to attend. Thank you very much. I will be arriving on my own by boat and by land.

I will have my passport ready just in case. See you there my friend.

    Schulmanicus: Feisty Felines' Fabulous Finish

    schulmanicusmastheadbz2.jpg

The upgrades to Buss Castle and Baby Busscastle by themselves are impressive. But, that's not all the felines were able to accomplish. With their furry pockets lined with schulmonetas, the outlying homes were moved and clustered into a worker's village behind the Busscastle Chocolates headquarters in Baby Busscastle. A new road in a reconfigured traffic pattern was built to lead to the new ferry port. In addition to the road leading to Wanda, the new ferry road ran parallel to Wanda Road and intersected with the Transnational Highway, which runs through Wirt toward Stell. This expansion project preserved all of the historic structures outside the castle walls while allowing for the addition of 5,000 residents to Busscastle's population. Busscastle Chocolates would now have a sufficient labor force to meet the expanding demand for their highly sought after product line.

A wider view of the area shows the extensive and painstaking efforts the Feline Consortium made to blend the new development and adaptive reuse into the existing built and natural environments.

    wide1yh8.jpg

The Lower Busscastle neighborhood has been transformed; the ferry road now carries over 1,000 wagons and carts each day. The red roof in the center right of the image is Buss Keep, a castle-inspired design from the architectural firm of Whiskers and Pawpads, which houses 64 happy families.

    wide3pj0.jpg

As we climb further up the new road, we pass near Baby Busscastle and the restored homes from old Busscastle. The homes have been lovingly restored and placed together in a small cobblestone square.

    wide5es5.jpg

Beyond the new square, the oldest wooden structures in the area have been preserved and still serve as functioning small family farms. Business is booming for the local farmers, who now have a large population to buy their fresh fruits, vegetables, and staples.

    wide2xw4.jpg

From the opposite angle, new development can be seen cascading down the hillside to the ferry port. At the port, more stone castle-inspired commercial buildings preside over Busscastle's new port.

    wide4du0.jpg

A different view of the lower end of the new development.

    wide6go2.jpg

A face-on view of the ferry port. A fairly extensive amount of terraforming was needed to level out the shoreline enough to complete the port terminal.

We will begin our tour of the new and improved Busscastle suburbs with the port. Over 5,000 use the port daily, making it one of the busier ports in the realm. Imported raw materials and finished goods flow back and forth. The District of Schulmanicus has leased two floors of the corner building for much needed government office space. The balance of the space is primarily used for the Port Authority and Customs & Taxation Office.

    f1po2.jpg

The new ferry port is the second busiest in Schulmanicus, despite having just opened. The government office can be seen on the corner. Its prominent location and distinctive style make it a stand-out building in Busscastle. The crowned eagle, symbol of Busscastle, can be seen inside the gabled area of the front wall. The new Busscastle Inn can be seen directly across the street from the port, the leftmost building in the image. The town placed a single Schulminion flag at the entrance to the ferry port, as a welcome to guests arriving by sea.

    f3io1.jpg

In this view, the Government Building's distinctive décor can be better appreciated. This type of highly ornamented wall surface is new to Schulmania, and has been quite a sensation since its debut. The imposing brick structure facing us in this angle is the new district office for the Manufacturers' Guild (first two floors) and leased office and workspace for artisans and writers. The local newspapers are printed here.

    f4it2.jpg

This angle affords us the best view of the Mercantile Exchange. With a large amount of exports and plenty of disposable income, Busscastle is a great place to do business. The bottom 2 floors are devoted to shops, much like a shopping mall would be set up. The top floors provide office space for businesses and for the buy/sell/trade of goods. Some goods are stored here as well, but most are sent on to their intended destinations.

As we head up the hill from the port, we note the distinctive red roof of Buss Keep. This castle-inspired building is a popular residential structure. Many residents like the idea of living in the castle setting. But, most of the housing in the original castle has been converted into shops.

    r1ym7.jpg

Those residents who want the feel of castle living will be at home in Buss Keep.

As we progress further up the road, we run across the most extensive adaptive reuse project in Schulmania. This historic preservation effort moved all of the old homes in Lower Busscastle and clustered them together around a cobblestone square. In recognition of these structures as the heart of Busscastle (outside of the castle walls, anyway), a new town hall was constructed at the head of the square. A few of the historic homes are still used as private residences. Many have been converted to inns or shops.

    v1eg7.jpg

    v6wl5.jpg

The new town hall dominates the little square, but still blends in well to its built and natural environments.

    v7fp5.jpg

The cobblestone square also features a Schulmania flag and a statue of Schulmanicus Rex, the mythological founder of Schulmania. This area became known as Heritage Square.

    v2to5.jpg

The centuries old homes took on new life as a special historic district. The building on the right was converted into a small hotel. A dinner theater operates on the lower level.

    v3zj0.jpg

Some other old homes are across the street from the square. They now flank the new comprehensive school, the Bussiness Institute at Heritage Square.

    v5vl1.jpg

A better view of the Bussiness Institute. It offers full educational services, from infants to the elderly. The top floor is a reading room and archive. On sunny days, one can take library books out on to the rooftop patio to read and enjoy the sunshine.

    v8vy7.jpg

In this view from the rooftop of the Busscastle Town Hall, one can see the Schulmanicus Rex statue and the flag court in the center of the plaza. The building at the lower right is now used by the Busscastle Chamber of Commerce and the Busscastle Tourism Agency. If you are looking to take a tour of Busscastle or perhaps to do business here, this is where you will want to come first.

As we travel father away from the port, we pass Heritage Square and continue on to the Transnational Highway. The last development we encounter before the highway is the cluster of ancient wooden homes from old Busscastle. This area was named Olde Buss Castle Towne and it preserves the authentic Schulminion way of life from long ago. Olde Towne, as it was called by the locals, combines heritage with function. The homes are still used as residences and the fields still produce goods for local markets. The residents are very friendly and offer many ours to marauding bands of schoolchildren on field trips.

    old1io7.jpg

Surrounded by trees and fields, Olde Buss Castle Towne anchors the inland corner of Busscastle. At the top of the image, the ever-bustling Transnational Highway carriers over 5,000 people on foot, in wagons, and on horseback.

    old2cx3.jpg

Chief Archaeologist Cyrano Indiana Jones' research indicates the placement of structures at the site is very much like the original placement in ancient settlements.

    old4ks9.jpg

Scenes like this are so authentic that them seem to have been ripped right out of a history book and dropped down into contemporary Schulmania. There are still a few pockets of rural Schulmanicus with this type of ancient town.

This update is a story of contrasts. We start with the modern updates to Busscastle and then come full circle to its ancient origins.
