I was just about to make a thread about this!!

They look interesting. The buildings will be between 61-78 stories high, and they will overlook the memorial. The new buildings unveiled should be completed by 2012, while the Freedom Tower will be completed in 2011, and the memorial in 2009.

Thank goodness they decided on something decent. Things weren't looking good for a while there.

Looks good, even though it doesn't fit in with the rest of the city... but I guess the WTC didn't either. 3.gif

They look very nice, I especially like the one four diamonds at the top.

lol, that might have something to do with the fact that British designers contributed to the design of the towers. Norman Foster designed the "four diamond" tower, while Richard Rogers designed the middle tower of the three.

I like the design for the center, though I wish they would have put more into the main tower, it doesn't look that bad. I just wish they would rename it. I HATE the name 'Freedom Tower." If calling it World Trade Center makes a few whiny victim's families, the least they can do is name it something that doesn't scream "we think we're still the only free nation, so ***** you world!" Though I still prefer World Trade Center Tower 1 or something like that.

Personaly i think that i they just kept ground zero but cleaned it a little it would be nice because if you go there, there are cards and posters and bill boards it just may be nicer than any perposlly build building or memorial. you know built by the people for the people.

They really look nice together, despite having been designed by four different people.  Harmony of design isn't always a good thing.  In this case, I think having the variety really helps.

The memorial looks well-integrated too.  This will add a striking new feature to the New York skyline.  Unlike the old buildings, which looked like the delivery boxes that the Empire State Building and Chrysler Building came packaged in.

lol, i was also going to make a thread about this to, this looks alot better than the 1st one, and the last one that was all black and steel,  i think this tower will start modernizing nyc, last summer i went there and alot of moder buildings have started popping up. although i thought about them rebuilding the complex w/ the original design, i think that would be pretty cool, but the families of victims would like protest the design... idk.......  i think this is definitly a better design than the last 50 designs.... they changed the plan like every two weeks, lol oh yeah, also these will be the first "green" office towers in nyc, WTC 7 was finished earlier this year and there is a water tank on the roof so that it can collect water to water the memorial garden, i thought that was interesting. anyway, i think this design is good  21.gif

I like the looks of these buildings and the fact that they worked together on the design so they go well with each other. I think it is a good thing that they are not the same as the buildings around them, they are older and these definitely look more futuristic.

The towers look very interesting and I think Freedom Tower is appropriate because of its hight of 1,776 feet (1776 the year America declared Independence.)

Hmmmmmmm.....

They look like decent enough buildings, but I still think that they aren't a sufficient memorial to the sheer inexpressible horror and tragedy wrought upon America that day. They are probably otherwise great buildings, but because they have been turned into such a nightmarish political issue, I feel as though they are a desecration of that site. And, you know what? I'm a big-time capitalist type, too! Normally, I would say that bigger and better are great. But this is a different issue. Are these otherwise incredible new skyscrapers really the best way to remember the passing (and reason for it) of nearly three thousand people in a single September morning? I always favored a far simpler memorial than these towers, but that's IMO. These towers would be a welcome addition to any other city, or even another part of Manhattan, but not the WTC site, I think. You'll notice, the Pentagon looks exactly the same as it did before.

Oh, well. Too late now, but I suppose they'll grow on us, just as the old Twin Towers were initially disliked, then accepted later by many, if not most of us.

They look much better than the originals, i was never a fan of the original towers, in my opinion they looked heartless and cold. But thse, coupled with the park add a new modern touch to the Lower West Side 4.gif

I was going to start a thread about this too!

Personally, I don't like this new design any better than the other ones. Its just too random. Instead of being a complex, this looks more like a bunch of urban randomness, and to tourists it might look like seperate commercial buildings altogether.

I would have liked something more uniform.

These are really nice looking designs (not a big fan of the '4 diamond' building though) but, I still preferred the older towers. I just hope to God that these buildings remain safe (if the construction goes ahead of course) - seeing what happened 5 years ago is enough horror for one lifetime.

As stated before, the orig. buildings need to be built... only taller...

The one that has the slanted top looks like a ripoff of that building in Chicago. Come to think of it... the Freedom Tower looks REALLY similar to the John Han***** in Chicago... Another has similar characteristics to the Sears... And that short one looks like the Aon Center...

Hmm.... ripping off Chicago are we?

Creathir: I cant see that personally, the second from the right looks very much like Londons Heron Tower but i would eriously doubt anyone copied anyone, its a skyscraper at the end of the day.

Oh def... there just are a LOT of similar design characteristics taken from the Chicago skyline. If I had to guess, they drew a lot of inspiration from this city.
