Hi everyone,

How would I go about making one of these maps?  Do you need a certain program?  Thanks!

I think we've all done them different ways. Basically you just need some sort of image or graphics editing program. I use PhotoShop Elements but something much simpler would work.

This is my metro map for the City of Acton, which has a population of 206, 677 at the moment. It's a very basic map I'm trying to master the Harry Beck Style as used on the London tube maps.

Please keep your maps below 800x600. Many of the current maps above to exceed this and I ask you to fix it 4.gif before I delete some of thoes absolutly wonderful maps.

    Standby.

I've just finished updating my Nyhaven rail map to reflect all the growth the city has undergone:

Additionally, I am now a member of the Simtropolis Transit Map Service, should anyone like me to make similar maps for their cities.

Here's a subway map of Capedieu. The city has about 220000 inhabitants. It's my first map thing I've ever made. So it's a little bit crappy. I've only named the most important stations.

    Here I go:

    I made a new map. 3.gif

It's pretty big, this whole map covers a total area of  four large tiles. I haven't finished, mind you. 3.gif

This map is only of Upper and Middle Brackenfell.

SA: I really like that map. It kinda reminds me of the Sydway street directory (though it's not exactly the same).

That map makes me wish I had Photoshop...

Here's the map I made for my CJ The Tropics of Haalu. This is from quite a while ago, just before I stopped playing actually, now I'm kinda back.

It's also done in google map style.

Click the map for the full 1800x1800 map.

    Best.  SC4.  Map.  Ever.

Here's a location map for Three Rivers Region that I've also posted in my CJMake sure you check out the 2,400 by 2,400 pixel version [ linkie ], as it sure helps with the eyestrain issue.

Here's my attempt at a google style map. One question for JaneJacobs. How did you get your map so identical to a google map? Anyways enjoy!

(note this is a work in progress as it is a little incomplete at the moment)

Looks great! I'm looking forward to seeing more as you complete it. I'd love to see some closer or bigger shots if that is possible.

Yours looks quite a bit like Google maps to me. The main thing I did that you could do as well is to make sure you are using the same colors as a Google map (or Yahoo or whatever your choice is). What I did to get the exact same colors was take a screenshot of an Google map image, then opened that in Photoshop and use the dropper tool to pick up the colors from the map. Then you just use those colors. So for example, you need more of a cream color for your city background, a less bright green color, etc., to get closer to the Goole map look.

Once you fill in all the terrain background that is showing through right now, it will look more like a Google map.

Another thing is to maybe draw some of the map lines over your streets a little less literally. What I mean is in some cases you can create a sort of cuve instead of the up, down and diagonal that the real Sim City streets have to be.
