This ones in the making...

There are many things I need to fix up about it... size, scale etc. etc... This is just a test map...

I was admiring CDB's metro map on page 5 of this thread, and it made me think of a german network (e.g. Cologne).

Here's what the map would look like if each line had it's own color...

At some point I may attempt to place all the stations, although no doubt the central area would have to be enlarged in order to represent them without major congestion.

One thing I think I would do is take out the 2 sharp curves on the pink circle line and switch them to 60 degree angles, just to make the whole thing look a bit smoother.

Thanks for a great map, CDB, I had some fun 'cologne-izing' it.

I opened the thread to post this new map I made, and I found the surprise 43.gif

Only one thing about your great map. Line 5 has two different services at the airport (the loop at the western end of the line): the first is a kind of express that run directly to the main terminal on reserved tracks, the other take the loop and then turn back to downtown. I know it's a little cofusing on my map, but I did'nt know how to represent it clearly.

Thanks for the comment, and the info re: line 5. I should be able to fix that. I also didn't place any of the S lines (shuttles). If I ever do the stations ( a daunting task) I'll include everything. One good thing about the map - there is some empty space top left and bottom right for additional info 2.gif

I like the new map, too. Is that a tram (glr) network?

Hey, nice one meks!

Here is another version of my map...

I made the freeways a single, thick line this time... it's all a test really, just practicing for the huge map that will cover the whole region... in time...

Nice stuff, Owen. That looks like it must take ages to get everything right. I really like the hexagonal route markers - nice touch!

CDB, here's the Ducksberg metro that lies within the central circle (line 13) with stations and line numbers. The only thing missing is S3, I think (where the red bundle intersects with 13 and 12).

Here's my effort - a map of the Region of Sans Serif that I've recently started, so far comprising the four cities Palatino, Trebuchet, Cambria, and Helvetica (do you see what I did there ?)

RegionView.jpg

The map is based on the colours etc of the popular A-Z street maps available for most British cities :

And here's the map itself (I was going to put in street names - and still might do eventually - but for the moment I a) really couldn't embark on that amount of work, and b) probably couldn't think up enough names anyhow !) :

Very nice work on the map, it looks really good. The names are familiar, too. 2.gif

Wow, you really did it! It's crazy, there were hundreds of station! Thanks, it's really a great work. 44.gif

As for your other question, the second map I posted shows a mixed network, partially underground, elevated and GLR; actually, it was an experiment: I wanted to try how Simcity4 handles a network with real different lines and connections, so I changed the level and put two different stations at every interchange point. It worked quite well on a single large city (althogh it had some flaws, and sims won't use mass transit as they did in my other cities), but I think that it won't be very efficient in region play.

Grat maps everyone 44.gif

Yeah, I think I was crazy to do it 2.gif Adding the stations allowed the map to become slightly more compact (compression of outer lines), and resulted in several changes (mainly a slightly expanded central area).

There are a few things I would change looking at it now, but they are mainly for aesthetics on some of the lines.

I hope you like how I dealt with the Line 5 Loop vs Line 5 Airport Express.

I'm new here, so hello. Aw I thought I was the only one who made maps of their cities... unfortunatley all my maps are hand-drawn, as I suck at all things photoshop. This is very... comforting to know that I'm the only one in the world who draws maps!

Veck: Mate, i still draw them! You are definetley not alone... there are heaps of people who do!

It is much, much easier though... Phototshop is extremely time consuming and is a very precise tool...

This is a thread to show off any subway maps of the city you have and give tips on how to make them .  Here is one from my most recent city.

LauxeCity-Apr.png

For a densely populated City of nearly 30,000 people It is pretty extensive. But At least it is well used.1.gif

I had begun to reply to this post... when the server went down for maintanence.

I do hand drawn maps a lot - they prove very useful for planning out my regions and getting ideas of what they'll look like.

Such as this one...
