    swat-medic & ardecila: Thanks guys!

So, I'm proud to present... the Tobin Building:

    tobin4.jpg

I was inspired by a recent trip to Springfield, Illinois. They have a wonderful little downtown full of historic storefronts!

Now, this is either going to be my next upload, or it's going to become part of a large set of small and medium sized facades that will have interchangeable bodies and will be organized into prop families. The jury's still out!

Hope everyone is doing well! Thanks for all of your support on my most recent upload!

Looking good! I love the interchangeable body/facade idea a lot. I have wanted to make a bunch of small w2w buildings (especially little industrial types) and that could be one way to do it. I'm with Jason, show us the textures! 3.gif

    Thanks everybody!

    A little more progress...

Also, I think I am going to release this individually, but I am still thinking about an interchangeable commercial set!

That interchangeable body idea sounds very very interesting, Nofunk! I can't wait to see a little set of these textured and ready!

So um... this one came together with little fanfare. The Tobin Building is now on the STEX!

    tobiningame1.jpg

So just to clarify things: I originally was going to make this part of a set of facades and interchangeable bodies, but the more I worked on it, the more I liked it on its own. I haven't forgotten about my original plan, but this BAT won't be a part of it.

    Hope everyone's doing well!

    Hello NoFunk, Jack wilds here...

Best of well laid plans brings forth a plan 'b'... a well done plan 'b' -thanks, this mid block w2w will be an appreciated addition to downtown; fulfilling office demand

Been back home to Milwaukee lately? you know I'd like a nicely scaled inspired version of the 'Midwest convention center' downtown, you seem to have a good 'bat' eye for this... something that looks good on a 4x4 or 6x6 space... any thoughts? good labor day weekend to ya

    Jack

    Gn_leugim: Thank you!

Jack_wilds: I haven't been to Milwaukee since about this time last year! I think your idea is a good one, and eventually I plan to make some Milwaukee buildings, so I'll keep that in mind for sure!

wolverine: Thanks! Well, I'm keeping with the mid-block commercial, but this might not be what you meant lol.

So, driving down some of the commercial streets in Detroit and Highland Park the other day, I got inspired. I have decided that (in keeping with the wall-to-wall commercial services idea) I'm going to re-create a number of commercial buildings from along Hamilton Avenue in Highland Park. They are not going to be mind-blowing, but they aren't meant to be. Instead, I want to make some high-quality but generic commercial buildings to help fill out urban commercial corridors.

Here's the first one! This modest building is 16165 Hamilton Avenue, Highland Park, Michigan:

    hamilton1616501.jpg

This still needs some more texture work, and some roof junk, but it's a pretty good start, wouldnn't you say?

EDIT: The idea would be to create a number of these, and then release them as a set... for the BSP.

    Hope everyone is doing well!

Ordinariness is the key element in this one. Simple yet appealing.

    Wonderful little beauty 3.gif!

May I ask for a cream coloured version and also for a brown one?

I believe that some stuff on them like small water tanks or neon holding frames or maybe some washed out billboards may really make those small BATs special 2.gif.

    Hello Nofunk, Jack wilds here...

Like the new direction the project is taking -I like the material use and the texture; promising appearance... will these follow your original thought of different fronts on similar boxes?

My request would be a sense of 'look' that would make 'em suitable on small main streets as well as the bigger cities; then to add, could there be one that is a 'hardware hanks' or some such hardware store, then one that is a 'hometown IGA' and then an hairdresser-barber, eye doc, tooth doc, shoe shop and a drug store with a soda-ice cream bar... perhaps The look typical downtown with street life, texture could be almost anything -brick, stone, wood...

When you decide to do a few Milwaukee structures let me know... thanks for the considerations

    Jack

    Thanks everyone!

Like many have suggested, I plan on putting some unique elements on the buildings--shop signs, billboards, etc.

    Another one begun!

They look great in their generic-ness 9.gif I think they'll fit in comfortably in lots of situations, as either city fillers or small town high streets. I hope you make a million 4.gif

io_bg: Don't worry, I'm not done making big buildings!

    Update!

I have completed and exported the two small commercial buildings above, and have started a third:

Once this is done, I'll release these as a set for the BSP!

    Hope everyone is doing well.
