Geeze, that's out of nowhere! lol.  I think it just collapsed on its own though.  If the building is totally gone now, it's more of a clean up job than a tearing down.

The Art Deco tower is indeed looking great.  I was very excited about it while texturing it.

And remember everyone, there are a handful of variants of this building!

It was demolished by the city the other day.  It did not completely collapse on its own.

Wow! THANK YOU ALL for the great comments! 4.gif

Sorry I haven't updated in the past month. Graduate school has swallowed my life! In fact, I haven't done any modeling since the first of September. But I should have some free time this weekend... maybe you'll see a REAL update!

In other news, I was in the Twin Cities this past weekend, and of course I saw a number of buildings I'd love to model, so you might see a Minneapolis BAT in the near future.

Finally, as bogged down as I have been lately, look for something BIG at the end of this month! 38.gif

There's just a nitelites problem, I posted about it in the 3ds Max - Troubleshooting thread. Once that's fixed, I can export this one. Then I can quickly finish the rest of the buildings in this set. The nitelites are finished, they're just rendering waaay too bright. There's also one or two other quick things I need to do to the model, but they will only take a few minutes.

    Thanks everyone!

The art deco towers are coming along slowly. I need to model the base on the Gramercy. Meanwhile, Jason is still working on the textures and night lighting. Look for these around Thanksgiving.

But don't forget: Halloween is next week, and doesn't everyone like a treat on Halloween? 2.gif

In other news, I've started something new:

    Hope everyone is well!

jacqulina: Thanks, Jacky! Hope you are doing well these days!

SimFox: As a matter of fact, yes, the building appears to have floor-to-ceiling windows, lol. That wasn't exactly my intention, but I think it's OK. The windows are 2 meters tall, and there are 1.3 meters between each set, so approximately 6.5-foot windows, and 10-foot floors.

EDIT: Upon closer inspection, I think the window ledges -- which are colored gray in the preview render -- are causing a bit of an optical illusion. They're causing the windows to look taller than they are. Hopefully once I texture the building that will be mitigated.

    -----

FYI - The scalloped detailing along the top of the cornice will be copper. I meant to change the color to green before I posted a preview render, but forgot.

hmmm, yeah, I think the floors should be at least 4 meters for SC. I think that's even short for real life. I think it would look good if the windows were made taller (and the rest of the building was moved up accordingly). There's something I like about the current proportions, but I think it would also look good being taller as well.

I just realized that this building reminds me of one from SC3K.

And it's looking great btw. 4.gif

Jasoncw: After scaling, the floors are over 4 meters tall. And in fact, 4 meters equals 13 feet, which I think is actually a little bit *tall* for real life.

Funny you should mention SC3K. As you know, this started as the Francis Palm Building in Detroit, so I was in no way trying to recreate an SC3K building, but I too am reminded of one when I look at this. Don't remember which building it is though.

SimFox: Hm... how distracting is it? I'd like to leave it as is, if it's not too bad. (Considering pedestrians in the game are like 3 meters tall... lol.)

    UPDATE

    Initial textures:

    Griffin_02.jpg

EDIT: A couple of things --

    1. I need to raise the main roof just a tad. The brick wall is too high above it.

    2. I'm going to add some flashing along the edges of the brick walls.

    3. Any thoughts on the scalloped cornice detail?
