As I have said before, this CJ is one of the best CJ's i have ever seen. It really shows how an american style city should look, and looks. I'm really stunned by the perfection, just great work man! Keep it up! 29.gif

    Take care

After spending a few hours getting some of the dust off of the region I played 3 different areas. (Capilano, Goldbar, and St Albert Trail/137th ave). I've been really busy with UCS but I want to commit more time to Edmonton aswell as keep up the same effort with UCS.

I figured while laying out residential zones I would show the work that goes into placing every house.

I have 2 pictures with the first showing the early placement of the res zones. After they grow on every 2nd lot into R$$ buildings I go threw every single house and every single block and mark them as historical. Without doing this I would end up with massive R$$$ zoned houses which wouldn't be accurate. After marking half the houses in the city as historical I place the rest and let them grow. The only demand problem I have in the region is R$$ so I have to watch and wait for the right times to zone housing.

    Some more progress...

I never used the diagonal street mod becuase I still thaught you couldn't build residential along it. Making it almost useless to me. But I looked at the thread on it to discover you could. Plus I was iffy if there way any bugs. I dont want to risk 40,000 km of roads on eye candy. But I tried it this morning and it looks great. Many areas still aren't straight or diagonal but it does help blend some areas. Heres a look.

And a look at NorthTown and Northwood mall. I still have a ways on getting this area right so this is a small preview.

This looks great. I think the diaganal streets look wonderful. Nice job as always. I too am glad to see work on Edmonton though I really enjoy your other journal as well.

EDIT: Oh, yeah, I wanted to tell you how much I enjoy the page-topper photos you do, too. They really show off the real Edmonton.

As usual, this City Journal is still looking great! It is one of the main reasons why I come back to Simtropolis daily. As for the diagonal streets, I would go for them, but don't pull an all-nighter converting the current streets. They make it even more realistic, but only convert them as you go along.

    Wow.

This is one of the most incredible real-world City Journals I've ever seen. What you've done here, JerseyDevil, is simply amazing. Your faithful recreation of the city is simply incredible. I can only suggest one thing (the rest is great): zip up the region along with plugins, and put them on sendmefile or something.

It looks almost exactly like the real thing NASAico.png height=16 width=16 alt=[ww] .

(Yes, I realise that a World Wind image has been posted before, but I figure that this time you can have superfun panning etc.)

I hope you don't mind a little advice from a Goldbar local, TJD. In the spot circled, on the left, needs to be a 2x2 high wealth house, and right behind it there is a private tennis court. The park to the east of that lot is part of the R$$$ property except for the tiles bordering the N-S street. If there is a fenced parkland mod, that would be probably be best.
There's probably a couple other tiny things I could point out, but it's not my city, so I'll just shut up now. 1.gif

Interesting Cj, and doing something like recreating every sq ft exactly to scale would drive me insane! Good job for your hard work in the long period of time this CJ has been out. That transportation map looks fantastic, great job on making those diagonol roads look right as well, thats a difficult thing to do.

P.S. Sabres are going to rock the Devils next season! 48.gif

Great update.  Let me know how that diagonal street mod goes.  I would like to use it to.  It definitely would give my cities a more realistic look to them.  BTW, what is the actual name of the diagonal street mod.

There hasn't been an update in a while, and I probably know why - he is converting all the side streets into the new diagonal streets.  Eh, I hope so...
