    Get involved...

I have a few request. Things that are beyond my skills that I could use for the city. If anyone would like to contribute to the city please pm me....

    - 1x1 grass lot(s) with 500 Ind jobs or 500 com jobs. To help employment and R$$ demand in the region.

    - 1x1 Rapheal Ninja's civic lots without the buildings. Currently I use these to supply all civic duties but they have tall towers on there 1x1 lots which look out of place in areas. If these where remade onto grass 1x1 lots they would be a great help for appearance.

    - 1x6 rail strip, transit enabled. For rail yards I need a 1x6 rail strip that looks the same as the regular rail. I will take it from there adding train cars to lot making 3 or 4 different sets. These inplace can go over exsisting rail to give areas with rail a realistic look with actual rail cars in place with a random but full look.

    - Ploppable Props!!! , this is my biggest request. God mode ploppable props. You could take blank plaza areas and have plopable props such as tables, art work, garbage bins, cars, you name it...or for industrial yards have plopabale crates, trucks, wood piles, anything. I find in many areas of industrial Edmonton there are open outdoor storage areas. Instead of recreating many many lots you could have these props to place to give a very random look aswell as realism. I think once a set of these ploppable props or two come out the Stex could take a new look with continued sets....

    - And of coarse Edmonton Bats... I need a million buildings with any to choose from. Edmonton has some interesting or easy buildings for anyone who would like to bat. Add your touch to the 2004 most realistic CJ.

Again reply if you can help...

    Plopable Props
    And there use in SimCity4

I've been recently playing with the idea of having plopable props in SimCity. Having mayor mode props such as picnic tables, random cars, crates, people, or anything else would really add life to those areas that need it. And as a realistic city builder this is a muct for the crazy amount of detail I want. It's either this or make a million specific lots. Having some black 1x1 texture lots such as cement or grass then adding plopable props is a good way to start an use this mix.

In the above post 6459978. has shown how this is possible. Now with addition efforts alot is possible for this game. It would also be a great benifit for the fact these items would go to one of the least used menus. A menu that had only props and trees to be placed would be a great addition to SimCity 4. I also believe with this beggining it will eventually take the stex by storm and many people will see a new way to customize there cities. I wish I had the means to create these myself. But for the time being I don't know how to. Until then this is in others hands. Please contact me if you are interested in helping. 6459978. has shown what is possible so far on a small scale.

Here are some Industrial examples that show what I mean. And how creating a real city is near impossible accurately is nearly impossible without these additions.

TJD...can you make large lots with just random ploppable props on them instead of just ploppable props?

Thanks Sub I know. I have random parking lots on stex of my own. This is alot larger of a request and in a different text. Just like the lots on the stex where you can have boats plopped down for your beaches to give them a real look I would like other props to do the same. Lets say you anted lamp post to line your parking lots. Or picninc table aranged on a balnk plaza. Or perhaps rows of cars that are slightly staggered. You could make things have a very neat or messy look at your own doing. Once I get my hands on a few of these ploppable props once made I will post pictures of exactly how usefull they are. I think they are a must in amny areas of my recreation and a great addition for others who can utilize them in different ways. It has potential to give many areas a new and unique look even from far out views of areas. A more full and realistic look.

    Strathcona Industrial Area....

This is a huge area of the east side of the city. With alot of it technicaly outside of the city borders. There is every single type of industry in this large barren area. Probably one of the uglier sides of Edmonton with large barren feilds. Huge refineries, oil tanks, warehouses, and stock yards from everything including kitchen sinks. This is one area where I'll need ploppable mods the most.

Here are two very early pictures of the area. Any opinions on my new way of doing farms? I'm trying to mix the farm land, trees, and tall grass into a natural look... I was thinking of leaving the grass areas as the SC normal terrain.... but at the elevation I have the city built I'm not big on its shade of green...

    Strathcona Industrial...

Still in the extremely early stages of developement. But I wanted to show an update on the progress. I know this is an industrial area that probably the only people who will know the accuracy all that well is the people who work there... but I still want to take good efforts at accuracy on any and every part of the city.
As this area grows I will continue with updates. But as anyone knows... I jump from area to area in Edmonton while developing. This keeps me from getting bored and I find myslef already redoing many older made areas with new lots and stiles of handeling the recreation.

Absolutley incredible and inspiring work... I have literally just spent the last three hours reading this, looking in awe, thinking of ways I can incorporate things into my cities... and I'm only to around page 20 or so. From what I have seen, on this page the quality level only goes up.

Also I was always thinking of doing my hometown which is maybe 1/10 the size of Edmonton. But I figured it would be impossible to get everything to scale... well... you've proved that wrong.

    Again, incredible stuff...

    Nice work, Jerseydevil!

but in the explanation of how you scale it, the fact that you didnt tell us what scale the map you used was in makes it kind of useless...30.gif

Simen : The reason I didn't share my map or scale is I doubt you could find my map. Its 2 or 3 years old now and the version I am using changes there scale each year. Here it is anyways...
    1:27000
    1cm = .27km
So that being said there is approx. 54 or 55 lots to 1km in my region. With the standard SC scale being a small map 64 lots to 1km.
The reason my map is a little bit smaller of a scale is the housing fits in alot better as such. If it was larger the houses would be a bit small for some of the city blocks.

Caliban420 : Thanks for going threw the whole CJ lol. COuld take a while. If you ever do decide to make your hometown get in contact with me. I may be able to help. Where do you live by the way?

hey i havnt replied in a while..
progress is looking great but i noted one error on your road placing 50st from 153ave going north to ..not shure but the road is like curved now and goes into the middle of hollick kenyon landings , haha srry but yeah

then i was wondering about station lands i was reading on some 2 year old forum that they allready started digging the foundation for the building? if its true my guess is cranes will go up anytime soon?

as well i read yesterday a brochure on the slrt expansion
seems that when the health science station is built their going to replace all current train cars with new ones X47X[edit=actually 26] or so(allready bought)
now i have a freind whos dad is a part time conductor for the lrt says they will look like the busses we have in service right now (in which i mean the interior) those purpleish blue seats and that whole thing ,which is a way better look then those cotton brown seats we have right now!

    Vigo_Zerox...
Thanks for looking over the CJ again and as always. As for the error you found in the 40,000km of roads....
I'm pretty sure its an error on your part. 50th Street on my 2yr old map, and google earth both show it going straight north all the way to highway 37. Which is a few km off of my map... But if there is an updated version I haven't seen? please pm me....

As far as StationLands goes. I wish that was the case. I haven't heard anything about that. And I don't know if thats the case. I do know there is no cranes in that area. Only a few future developement signs. Aswell I heard it could be several more years down th road before they break ground.

And as for the LRT, they are fast tracking progress south which is a great move. I haven't heard anything about new LRT trains. But it wouldn't surprise me. Our current fleet is around 30yrs old. So time is due. Most of our busses have been replaced in the last 7yrs aswell.

ajs : Thanks.... I don't need anymore maps, beyond my map and google there isn't anything I can't see now.
But this is very handy to show Vigo_Xerox exactly what I mean about 50th st. This is is a 3rd map showing I am right and it continues straight.

By all means I am happy with people finding mistakes it is a big help. And obviously like anyone I make them.
However probably 90% of these that people point out are correct and made as they should be. Yet I still have to look up the area in the region, cross it with several maps and double check to see if anything needs alterations.
If someone is going to point something out. Make sure it's an actual mistake.

jacqulina : thanks for your long post.

No work has been started on Stationlands.  I personally doubt that it will ever get build.  There are many far more suitable sites in the downtown core closer to where all the action is at.

As for the LRT system, an order of 33 LRVs has been placed.  The existing fleet of 37 U2 LRVs will be retrofitted to allow them to get through the new tunnel porthole as well as update the livery.

Rendar : I am pretty sure Stationlands will be built. Its a garantee. The only issue is when. I have heard about this project since last century... and even then it was said to be in ten years. Now that most of that time is up and downtown is booming with new life it should be a shoe in to break ground within 18months. But this is only my opinion on the matter.
Plus the 104st to 111st area is about ot get a major new look to it. With talk of the LRT making a turn for the west up there. I finally think that those who are in high places in Edmonton are realizing they have to begin planning for a very large scale city with a bright and long future ahead. This new developement should take out some of the R$ 3 story appartments and replace them with an upscale feel of that area.
Don't be surprised in 10yrs to see the 97th St. area and west be cleaned up and a new life enter that part of the city.

TJD - I dont believe the train will head west from downtown... I think it will head from south of the new health science station ( which is currently under contruction along with the southern leg of the LRT )

west to west edmonton mall from there using this route found here http://www.edmonton.ca/RoadsTraffic/87AvenueAlignment.pdf
