This CJ & The NAM are the two reasons I still read ST.

Nothing personal to anyone else, but this and the NAM are in my opinion the crowning achievements of what ST has to offer.

Howdy...

A big fan of your region!  This is the most realistic I've seen here!

Have a link to maybe help you some... have you made any use of Google's excellent satellite coverage of the area?

Here is an example:

You can move that around and zoom in and out on almost the whole city... might help you with some building layout.  Also there is pure map form, pure satellite form, then a hybrid form so you can find streets on the satellite shot.

I am a classic lurker and non-poster.  I figured I'd bump this CJ back to the top of the list for any newcomers to see since it is my favorite one and has given me an amazing amount of ideas for parks and road networks for my cities.  I will look for further updates in the future.  Great work Jersey

Don't be surprised to see an update soon. I have been working on the region of late. But I've also been playing SC alot less.

The thing is, I work on many different areas of teh city at once. Adding small additions to the already worked on areas. So its hard to add an update when some of these areas have already been shown in a little less detail.

But it's been long enough. Please if anyone has any request. Just ask. I won't be able to fulfill all. But maybe one or two. As always thanks for keeping posted to this 2yr old CJ.

this is most excellent news, TJD...Edmonton has always been one of my favorite journals - and the pleasure of watching it grow for two years has been all ours.

    Edmonton - August 30 2005

This is a small update. But I'm starting to put some hours of developement into the city. It's been a busy summer with work, family, vacations, and UCS2.

These two pictures are of South Edmonton Common (at the south enterance of the city) and South Park Center just north of the Common.
Some of the stores that have been placed will be replaced as I get new BATs that are more fitting. Also this area is 40minutes from where I live so I don't get to see it often. This is the way Edmonton's commercial is manily built now-a-days. More open space malls. I'm not a big fan of them. Especially come winter.

Anyways here is the small update....one of many more to come as the 2yr old CJ is about half finished.

Here is a picture of development which is growing threw the north side. The city is now around 450,000 and growing at a steady pace. R$$ demand is fairly high which allows me to expand the region. Without me recreating com and ind areas I can't build R$$ since the demand drops. Also this CJ was due for some region views...

I like the region view.  It gives a good perspective of just how realistic your street layout is.

    Expansion
I decided to expand the region. Today while doing some of the southern edge of the region aswell as looking at the new highway 2 / Anthony Henday drive interchange I thaught it would be worth a try to include the area of Ellerslie Road which has some huge housing development. And while expanding why not inlcude Sherwood Park. A major part of Edmonton in real life.
The real Edmonton region is made up of just over 1million people. My old borders included about 700-750k of that million. Now I'll be able to include well over another 50,000.
I know the region of 2yrs is now over half finished and at the length of time it has taken' for that expansion may not be the right thing to do... But I don't see SC5 anytime soon. So there is plenty of time to continue and finish this hobby.

Here is a preview of the new size of the map.
And the old and new borders in prespective of each other.

    Expansion Begins

I've started laying out the roads and terraforming Ellerslie road. Again in the real Edmonton this area is under a huge expansion. To lay out many of the new roads I will have to look at other sources. But for now I've layed out most on my 2yr old map.

Also by expanding Highway2 (main highway to Calgary and south) I was able to include Gateway Park. Gateway Park is at the south entrance to the city. It includes an information center, park area, and large historic oil derrick. Leduc #1 the first derrick to crack oil in Alberta in 1947.

Here is a picture of Leduc no.1 at Gateway park, and what I've managed to build tonight along Ellerslie Rd.

Even though I am not a big fan of American style cities, I must say that your Edmonton looks, well, STUNNING! It is just so realistic, you should be very proud! 29.gif

*heh, I know I have said this a lot of times to you in this CJ, but you deserve it!* 29.gif

    take care

abcd : I can't upload it to the STEX becuase it is all made by hand. There is no black and white Jpeg or anything to use for it. Just a blank region file that is over 20,000kb.
