I'm making Edmonton to an exact scale over the next few years. First by hand terraforming every square ft. of the city. The river valley will be as deep and wide as the real thing. The region will run from (winterburn rd. in the west to Highway 14 in the east, and around 190th in the north to baseline rd 0ave in the south). For anyone who knows the city they should be able to realy apprieciate the work put into the region and later the building of nearly every building in such a large city. And for those who dont know Edmonton its a great region to build in which includes a 45km river valley that is miles wide and lined with parks. Please enjoy the progress and leave what you think!

This is a picture of the SW end of the city. And yeah Edmonton has the largest mall in the world. I'll have to create that with LE somehow....Its the size of a small city lot.

I did.....I divided a map up and made a scale...So when I work on each lot I know how many sqaures to move before making ravines and what not.....Each one takes 20min to a few hrs. The map above is only SW Edmonton.....I have alot of the city to do...away from the river valley the city doesnt gain much hieght. But in SC terms to get a road out of the valley you have to make it 13 sqaures long.....To give you a bit of scale. Edmontons river valley is the largest area of parkland in a city and is 21 times the size of central park!

I've visited Edmonton 7-8 years ago when my marching band flew to Calgary to play in the stampede, and we took a day trip to the Edmonton Mall.. they could've made it a week trip and we still wouldn't have seen it all.

Beforehand, the busses drove us around on kind of a sight seeing tour for the chapparones (sp?).  Most of my fellow students didn't really pay attention but I thought it was a great looking town and I tried to make it on SC but gave up because it couldn't even come close.

I would really REALLY like to hear any tips you have learned on hand-terraforming as you go. Especially with regard to fine-tuning the river beltway. Seems the hardest thing to accomplish is using the valley tools to create accurate river beds...

I want to make a somewhat scale version of Dallas/Fort Worth, but i haven;t been able to get the USGS map to do what i want. We have a "river," the Trinity - it's actually a very narrow channel that winds south of downtown, with lots of marshy land on either side (i.e., it only looks like a river when it rains a lot) - SC4 doesn't seem to know how to deal with this low land...

    thanks in advance

-Thanx for all the replies. Keep them coming 11.gif-
    Too answer a few questions....
-I'm the JerseyDevil becuase I'm crazy about my hockey team! But I love Edmonton.
-And some tricks about doing the whole region by hand. I find using the valley tool hard for persision. What I do is use the level land then I found the proper hieght of the raised lands of Edmonton. On a map of Edm I messure to the edge of where the valley would begin and end it with cliffs. Now I end up with a large gap between the top and the river valley. To soften these edges and to give it the look of the real thing I use the plains tool. But to do it as it looks you need to know what areas are cliffs cut by the river and parts that slowly roll into the valley...Luckily I've lived in Edmonton all 23yrs of my life so I know the city very well.
    -Please keep the questions coming

Simce there is NO LRT,you might as well use a subway/EL rails as a semi-Light rail system.
