I've done alot of work on the roads in Southwestern Edmonton. I want to begin finishing more of the road network just for the fact people see the true size of the city. There is alot to do along the southern border. Alot in the NW and whole North stretch. NE Edmonton has alot to be added to it aswell. But SW is becoming alot closer to completion. 11.gif

Nice. I like those UBER realistic winding suburban street layouts!

P.S. Kudos on the transit map mod!

    SC4, Forevermore!

Currently preoccupied with architecture school...lurking with caution.

    January 27th

I've put down some more roads along the south end of the city. As you can see the area the cities South and West bounderies are taking shape. In the next few days I should finish Millwoods aswell completing Almost all roads on the South Side of the city.

So, for the Heritage Mall site, are you going to try to emulate Century Park now?  It was just approved, and is a collection of highrise apartment buildings, commercial services and a couple of office towers, along with a bunch of green space.

Jarcher : I probably will do Century Park. I am doing most planned projects for the city. Anothony Henday Drive for one, and just tonight I laid the LRT all the way to Heritage anyways. I'm really happy the project was approved. It should be a nice addition to the south side.

Here is a preview of Century Park.

I've been wondering: As new roads are built out in Edmonton, are you trying to make accurate changes, or will this be a snapshot in time? I figure you're still a few months from completion, and in that time some new things I'm sure will happen, so I'm curious what your General Plan entails?

Davidhogan : The map I'm using is from 2003 so there are some areas that have been built, are being built, and will be built. Some areas are at each stage. But I plan on building anything that is planned for the near future. And from Satellite maps I have already expanded current projects on the West End. I should be releasing more comparitive Sat pics soon along with in game photos aswell. 11.gif

What an absolutely fantastic city! No wonder it won a Trixie. I've just sat and read through the whole thing and I am mightily impressed with what I have seen. I'll be sticking around a while with this one.

That Transportation map looks so cool! It looks fake. I could never get winding streets like that! You are truly talented.

Wow! Your Journal has really come a long way in a short time!

Sorry I couldn't help you with your BAT modding last year, but I've moved to Victoria BC and am considering doing a version of Esquimalt.

Can't wait to see the ring roads completed. Keep up the Great work!

I've been working alot in filling in all uncompleted areas in the Southwest. If you notice theres a large difference and the area looks alot fuller. The large gap along the river is the last major area I need to fill in for this area to be finish for the roads. Next should be the South East area of Edmonton to be complete. Millwoods has a few areas that need to be filled in for that area of the map to be finished. Then on to the northside which has alot of work to be done on it.
I've also started working on the Whitemud area where it crosses the river. Fort Edmonton has started up to. But along the river valley and Whitemud creek I've done alot of Terraforming. Hard to notice but the area is even more accurate now.

    February 1st

This is a rare look at an entire finished strip. This is a view of Fox Drive and the Whitemud Creek meeting the North Saskatchewan River.

Picture #1 - The Whitemud Drive heading north into the river valley and meeting Fox Drive, then crossing the river at Quesnell Bridge. To the left is the enterance to Fort Edmonton Historical Park. Included is an old steam locamotive and track.

    1qwe.JPG

Picture #2 - This is where Fox Drive meets the Whitemud. Also in the bottom of the picture is a small farm in the WHitemud Ravine. This is also where the Whitemud Trail begins if you can see it to the left of the farm.

    2qwe.JPG

Picture #3 - In this picture you can see some small farms. In real life Edmonton these are actual ranches for people who want to have horses in the heart of the City. Also shown is Keillor Road which was shutdown in the 90's for its over use. It is now part of the Trail system threw the river valley.

    3qwe.JPG

Picture #4 - In the extreme bottom right view of this picture is the NW corner of the University of Alberta farms. This is also where Fox Drive meets Belgravia Road.

This is a small example of where this city journal is heading as small areas become complete. I want to show nearly every area as it is in the Real Edmonton as this Region grows in the game. Any questions please ask. 11.gif

Absolutely insane perfection!  When Sim 5 comes out, you have to do Vancouver. I am so impressed by how you have gotten around SC4's limitations and managed to build a city where the ugly Diagonal Eyesores and cookie-cutter repetitions don't spoil the illusion.

    44.gif44.gif44.gif44.gif44.gif

My only complaint -- you need spellcheck. All of this perfection, and then I have to read a threw for a through and a there instead of a their,  etc.  I know, I know, I shouldn't complain LOL.

I have never ignored this thread and is by far the best City Journal I've seen and no wonder it had won a trixie. Excellent work on this. I'm amazed that you have been so committed to this for such a long time. (Just look at the 50 odd pages of abandoned City Journals). Keep up the amazing work. I have to say, do you do yours in stages? Like build the roads, than zone and place major buildings and then do the fine details?. That's what I do. Still, Wonderful stuff this. I will nonimate this for the 2005 trixie.

Also, how do you catch the top of every page without someone else posting?42.gif2.gif or is that everyone knows to leave the top for you9.gif
