Hello everybody! 1.gif

I thought I'd take advantage of the new team room by opening this thread - it's for everybody who uses Hong Kong / Asia BATs. Here you can show off a bit by posting screenshots that reveal how you use HKABT buildings in your cities.

Please remember that the size of pictures is limited to  800x600 pixels if the pictures are posted directly into the reply. If they are bigger, DragonAnime, our moderator in charge, will breathe some fire up your... well, you get the idea. 9.gif

You can post bigger images either by using links, or by using thumbnails.

Here's a quick how-to on using ImageShack to post thumbnails:

- Go to www.imageshack.us.

- Click "Browse" to browse to a file on your HD you want to upload.

- Click on "Host it!" and wait a while

- Once your image is uploaded, you will see a page with a preview of your image and some link codes.

- Scroll down a bit until you see the code at the bottom, "direct link to image". Copy it by highlighting it (double-click into the text field where it's displayed) and pressing [Ctrl]+[C].

- Now go to your reply on Simtropolis. Click the "Add/edit" image icon. A new window called "Image properties" will pop up.

- This window has three tabs. Go to the second tab "link".

- Copy the link to the picture into the "URL" text field by clicking into the field and pressing [Ctrl]+[V]. This should copy the Imageshack link into the text field.

- Now go back to the first tab, "Image info".

- Click into the topmost text field, "Image selection". Press [Ctrl]+[V] once again.

- Now to get a thumbnail, edit the URL by adding a ".th" between the name and the extension of the file. Let's take an example. If your image has the URL "www.imageshack.us/MyImage.jpg", change it to "www.imageshack.us/MyImage.th.jpg". The ".th" tells ImageShack to use the same image, but in thumbnail format.

- Click "ok".

Now you should have a thumbnail preview of your image inside your reply, and when people click on that thumbnail, they will get the full-size image, which they can also open in a new window or browser tab.

One more thing: Please use any tool (there are multi-language freeware tools like XNView or IrfanView available on the net if you don't have PaintShop or PhotoShop) to convert your images to JPG format before you post them. If you adjust the compression vs. quality ratio to a quality level of ~ 60%, you should get nice pictures with reasonable file sizes. Please consult the documentation and the help forums of these tools if you are not sure how to do that.

With all that boring waffle out of the way...

LET'S SEE SOME NICE PICTURES! 44.gif

i think we will see some amazing pics in this thread. all of you do amazing work!!!

this is a pic of 2 of your buildings. i like the size of the building(x3) as its easier to get it to repeat and create a little cluster of them. i also like the 2x2 buildings a lot, but theyre harder to grow.

3plus1ar7.jpg

here are two of your towers (there are more)  in my downtown district.

acouplemorehereeg4.jpg

and the best for last! it does grow! the monster is alive...sort of. when i build dense cities i zone a lot of it first, then i sim a bunch of years. this was one of the first buildings to grow. unfortunately, in later years it was abandoned so i bulldozed it hoping another would pop up but no such luck....yet, its been a couple hundred years in sim time but i am still hoping!

itdoesgrowxd2.jpg

congrats on the tea room, you deserve it as you are all constantly bringing us great buildings with amazing designs. just curious, were you people the first to make a growable building larger than 6x6? i really enjoy these huge tower complexes.

Whoa, some nice pictures so far - thanks for your contributions! And it's always interesting to see how differently people style and lay out their cities.

@ BerlinDude: I especially like how you arranged 1 & 2 IFC and how you used parks and plazas to make the lots blend seamlessly with the surrounding, just as if all was just one complex.

I noticed how you used diagonal parks to hide those ugly zig-zags along diagonal avenues, too. Very detail-loving approach! 1.gif Saubere Arbeit!

@ jmdude1: No, we were not the first. The trick was discovered by BSC members, so all credit goes to them. Andreas Roth showed me the method before the tutorial was released, so I knew to apply it before the BSC team posted the first lots and the tutorial. They had asked to be the first to release lots that incorporated what they had found out, however, and this is absolutely deserved and justified. Their find, their credit.

Then they released the first stuff, and when that was out, I released a new growable lot for 6455978's Bransfield House BAT under my own name. That was the first non-BSC Mega Lot to appear on the STEX.

The technique then was applied very often during the last BSC Oktoberfest, when vlakhaas and BarbyW once again showed their incredible lotting skills.

Afterwards, I often used it, but blame that on bixel: That guy is so addicted to realistic recreations of insanely huge buildings that there was no other way. 43.gif

Ok, in order not to spam too much, here are two pictures I already posted in our old thread, but who would find them among all that clutter? So here they are again:

    thearchatnight9vf.th.jpg

    1) The Arch 1 and Conrad International at night

    jwmarriottgrown9in.th.jpg

    2) The J.W. Marriott (growable version) at a waterfront in one of my cities.

    HKBuildings11.jpg

    3) A picture DragonAnime had posted in the old thread - among other things, it shows The Arch at a site that's so great that I could kill him for sheer envy - right at the marina. 38.gif To the bottom right: Dynasty Court. In the middle: Sham Wan Towers v2. The rest is a bunch of superb non-HKABT custom buildings, I recognize 3 NDEX creations, 1 Cobb32118 building and one by joerg, if I'm not mistaken.

    MarriotHK1.jpg

    4) Another great one by DragonAnime; it shows the J.W. Marriott ploppable.

    MarriotHK21.jpg

    5) A bit nearer...

Hello I am new to dowloading files and incorporating into my Simcity 4 deluxe edition.  I have a question about incorporating residential projects (e.g. Tung Chung) into my city.  Do I need to zone a 12X 9 high density residential unit in my city and hope that it develops into the project?  Or do I use a plug in manager/Lot editor to convert into a Landmark so that I can build it at will?---if this is the case, can anyone teach me how to do it?

I really like the buildings in HK and want to incorporate it into my 14million population city!

    Cheers,

    Mancou

yes, you zone a 12 x 9 lot and it probably will grow if the conditions are good enough. You could change it to landmark with the plug-in manager if you want. i'm sure tutorials on how to do it can be found in the omnibus. Or else you could always ask one of our modders (HONG KONG & T Wrecks).

    manstein:

This version can be built automatically by your sims if the required growth stage is reached, the correct tileset is active, appropriate zoning is provided and favourable growth conditions apply (attractivity, demand) - just like any in-game growable building. For all respects the 1st number in the LOT size (12x9) is across and then 2nd number is deep, so 12 across and 9 deep, hold ctrl button to zone correctly.

    Thanks guys:

I tried zoning the 12X9 but nothing grows. I acutally want to incorporate it as landmarks so that I can build it at my will. However, I don't think I can add residents/commerical jobs once I copy the models file on plugin manager into the Landmarks domain. However I did copy files in ladnmarks that have commercial jobs. Can anyone show me how to do this or direct me to a tutorial?

    Thanks

    Hey manstein!

First, let me tell you that I appreciate your dedication to take matters into your own hands. 1.gif

Here's a tutorial by SimGoober, which covers exactly the process of adding jobs to a static landmark:

    https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=140&threadid=76236&enterthread=y

However, I must warn you that adding residential population to a ploppable lot won't work, if you didn't know that already.

My theory is that RCI plops (as opposed to transportation lots) only work with inbound traffic. This is why commercial plops work fine: Nothing and nobody leaves the building, the commuters only need to get there. Residential population, however, must be able to leave its building. Industrial buildings must both accept commuters and generate freight. And guess what: Ploppable industrials can accept commuters, but they don't generate freight.

    Hey T Wreck:

Thanks. I will try to follow the tutorial. It's too bad that I can't add residential jobs.

You can't use HTML like that on the forums. Use the insert image feature... it is not in the quick reply box at the bottom of the page. It is in the pop-up window reply feature that can be accessed at the bottom of every post. It does everything for you. All you have to do is enter the location of the image. Like this:
