Today we decided to go up into the mountains and get some fine northwestern scenery.  Ryan knew about this 23 mile gravel road that went to some great scenery but it was 2 1/2 away so we decided to find someplace closer.

We went past this ski resort I was at 10-12 years ago.  It was odd seeing it without snow.  But they had some forest service people there who told us of a nearby 5 mile gravel road up to Windy Pass.  So we decided to go there.

Ryan thought the road was normal and it was, in the beginning

road5hs.jpg

but it got weirder and Samantha and I thought it was a bit freaky.   The term "gravel road" didn't apply to most of it, imho, and there were sections with rather steep dropoffs and no guard rails.  and it was a one-lane road with two way traffic.

Fortunately, Ralphy's excellent driving got us there and back no problem.   Here is a pic of Dirk walking along the gravel road (if you can call it that).

dirkroad6nh.jpg

There was still snow up there, as you can see here (and, yes it was as cold as Samantha looks):

and there was some nice scenery:

It is difficult to get the pictures to show the drop off on the edge of the road but here is the best one I can find to convey it:

It was great getting out in the wilderness, even if Ryan doesn't think it qualifies.  He is just so spoiled about taking the mountains for granted. and he doesn't even realize it!  but I am a flatlander from back East.  Dirk and I thought it was really cool.

and now for something completely different . . . here is a cat on a leash:

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

Obviously, some people may think that your average simtropolis admin is a total computer geek...

Just to prove that we are definitely into hardcore extreme sports, we proudly announce that Dirk & Rybolton have invented the redneck Segway

Unfortunately after all his dedicated training, Dirk does not qualify for Team USA   28.gif

Ski, you're just like my mother... She always figures out a way for her face not to be shown in pictures...

The cat on a leash is kinda strange...

Oh, and as another silly easterner, that's not really a road... proper roads are 4 lanes and tolled with EZ-Pass...17.gif17.gif

I figured it was a good time to post a few more pictures from yesterday.  One from our trip to the foothills and one from the restaurant last night...

Here's Dirk and Skigeek getting in to the car after taking pictures of the "drop off"...

Here's Ralphy and Skigeek waving at the camera in the restaurant.

I'm not a terribly good photographer...  I seem to be inept at capturing people at the right moments... 15.gif

SkiGeek, you have shattered my view of what you looked like.

I thought you would have greying hair, a friendly face, old fashioned clothes....instead all I have is my mother with straight hair..

Anyway, I think we have seen enough of ski's face to put it together into one stupid looking but almost complete picture...

Well, my hair is greying, Boggy, you can see that in the pic where I was taking a pic of the Space Needle.  But as to the old fashioned part . . . I'm a baby boomer.  Many of us don't do old-fashioned.

Check out this commercial:  go to http://www.ameriprise.com/amp/global/about-ameriprise/commercials.asp and scroll down and play the "Rocking Chair" video.  It sums it up nicely.

And risk traumatizing Boggy further?  47.gif    I can't have that on my conscience.   3.gif

Thank you.  I have arrived home safely.   My flights back were uneventful, unless you count screaming babies and a guy spilling bourbon all over me, which I don't.

Speaking of "redefining retirement"  (which we were if you watched that video), I did meet some cool people on the airplane.  They are newlyweds.

    newlyweds9kj.jpg

She has four great-grandchildren and they just got married this past week on a cruise ship.  The captain did the wedding.

They don't qualify as baby boomers but at least they have the philosophy down.  44.gif

Ski you remind me of Wilson off Home Improvement when he (except for the very last show) was always behind something. Sounds like your flight was eventful but typical enough Ski. Oh well least the trip was fun ummmmmmmm those gravel roads, hehehe reminds me of a tramp I did recently and your roads there were decent to what I was on.
