    Yea I'm still around, but got stuck with RL lately. I probably won't have much progress for some weeks to come until things calm down a bit 4.gif

    for first this seemed like a good project, but it uses subway tunnels and converts traffic to subway...(!), and no subway lines can cross it or you'll be having cars congesting your subway lines 2.gif this project is FAR unreal. im using the ingame highway tunnels in my city.

    He is currently working on having actual road tunnels.

    but it'll take a while.

    Well, of course it's unreal. But with the game's limitations, this is right now the only way to do it. The ingame highway tunnels are nice, but you have to end the tunnel to make on and off-ramps. And if you want the highway to be an expressway, then the tunnels are good, but if you need to relieve traffic congestion within the city but still allow exits and such, this is perfect.

    And you can always use elevated rail in the areas where the big dig tunnels are being used.

    when is the version of big dig with actual highway tunnels coming out? the more i read this thread the more i want this in my city. but with actual highway traffic!

    yup... also with newer Big Dig 2.x stuff (i.e. Atlantic Ave ramp and individual on/off ramps included in 1.0 release), you can also run train subway underneath the ramp's tunnel boat section and have it not cross over the big dig subway at all -- just make sure carefully that your train subway does not connect into the lot's junction box where big dig is connected to.   This would let you run subway pretty close to a big dig entrance but still cross over the highway without detouring the route too much.

    ofcourse, all of this will be a lot better when RHWMIS+BigDig work is completed in near future, where combination of both subways and RHW/NAM tunnels can be used to address all these problems with one shot.

    Just a quick need for clarification (and reading 63 pages of thread is rather intense)... Subway cannot cross the big dig subway lines, which I understand. Can surface rail cross over top of the tunnel/subway lines? Also, the readme said that bus and freight traffic does not cross the tunnel. Does that mean it does not go through the tunnel, or it cannot cross on a surface road over the tunnel? Thanks. This looks like it'll be an amazing mod to use!

    SuperPenguin, surface rail can cross over it since one is underground and the other is above ground. And the bus and freight traffic can't go through the tunnel, since there is no "freight subway".

    surface road isn't affected at all by the big dig. you can have rail and freight road traffic above the tunnel and it won't interfere at all. the big dig lines are made out of subways

    i already feel guilty for asking, but is this ready for download yet? I've skipped through the pages, but 64 is more than i have time to read every word, and i have yet to know if its ready. It looks very interesting and since this has sort of been a coming back into the game for me, this definitely has sparked a lot new ideas.

    i appreciate any help.

    i don't know if someone has suggesed it before.... 64 pages of thread are difficult to read... (i'm currently on page 20 lol) but is it possible to create a customized subway tunnel so it can fit big dig's tunnel entrances in the underground view??? it would be easier to recognize subway and motorway tunnels....

    To follow up on what Andreas said, there is a way to place a network underground, as in the case of GoaSkin's Road-over-Underground Heavy Rail puzzle pieces in the most recent NAM.  I've started work on some Underground RHW puzzle pieces that work the same way.  In fact, these are planned to be implemented with the new Big Dig/RHW-MIS interface.

    However, the actual "underground" part of these puzzle pieces will not be visible due to the whole hardcoding of the Underground View.  I've messed around with it some and looked into the files, and a lot of the subway stuff isn't in the .dat files, which means it can't be edited and must be in the .exe.

    Of course, the paths for the subway network are one part that isn't hardcoded (they're in one of the .dat files), it may be possible to add "car" paths to the subway.  However, there'd be some problems since you couldn't make any subway puzzle pieces to avoid the car and subway traffic in the subway tunnels from crossing directly.

    Water Pipes are also technically a transit network (as are Powerlines), so there could be some way to rig those, but I believe some of the stuff with those is hardcoded as well.  The way the underground networks were designed is kind of weird and rather unfortunate for a lot of us transit modding types.  If we could figure out the Group ID for the Subway Network Exemplars, there could be some more progress, though.  I've yet to find it though.34.gif

    to just reiterate some of the issues here...

    I keep pumping out models like a factory machine here but am running into problems trying to figure out BAT4Max for 3ds Max.

    If anyone who has working rendering setup with 3ds max 7 or 9 want to render some models for him, send me a pm please.  I'll send them over 4.gif

    Once rendered, I'll provide them to modders so they can be modded as appropriate.
