HSBC Arena (originally Crossroads Arena or Marine Midland Arena) in real life is an 18,690 seat arena situated just to the south of downtown Buffalo. The arena is most well known as home ice for the National Hockey League Buffalo Sabres, but the arena is also home to several smaller league and college sports, including hockey, basketball, indoor soccer, lacrosse, and formerly arena football. It is also a prime concert and entertainment location for the Buffalo and Western New York region. The arena officially opened on September 21, 1996 as the Marine Midland Arena, changing names to HSBC in early 1999.
