About This File

Dear SC4 fans, here is my modest contribution to the community :

THOMPSON FALLS, Montana (File #11)

Thompson Falls is a city in and the county seat of Sanders County, Montana, United States. The population was 1,321 at the 2000 census. Thompson Falls was named after British explorer, geographer and fur trader David Thompson, who in 1809 founded Saleesh House, a North West Company fur trading post. The arrival of the railroad in 1881 brought the first real activity to the area, two years later when the gold rush hit nearby Cœur d'Alene the town grew to accommodate the men going over the Murray trail to the mines (source : Wikipedia).

Thanks ! Actualy, the lower point of the map i about 700 meters above sea level. As I use the Italian Terrain mod where everything over 500 meters or so is snowy... ...then the whole map is white :D

With that mod installed the whole map looks really phenomenal. It might be nice to link to the mod you used so others can get the same result.

Very nice map with a nice look! Reminds me of working with Grants Pass, OR.

May I make some comments? I would like to see the river and where it flows. As for the location, this does not appear to be Thompson Falls, but east of Falls - namely Plains, Paradise, and Dixon at the very SE end of your topography. I wouldn't have made a big deal of it (not knowing the area), but a lengthy look at Google Earth showed me that Thompson Falls was nowhere close. Not much in the way of small towns and cities to speak of.

Hi jwpetr,

Rendering river is always a priority in making my maps, but sometimes impossible.

In this map the river flows all around the mountains, but riverbed is not flat at all : difference of elevation between the two ends of the riverbed is almost 30 meters IIRC.

If you want correct water line at the highest point of the river, the lower is completelly under sea level, making the map irrealistic.

In fact, rivers are possible to be rendered when riverbed is almost flat or slightly decreasing in elevation. Like plains or coastline rivers for example.
