This is one part of a big Mod project i am working on at this time.
PLEASE READ ALL BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS
We probably will not get a new game, or a new expansion. after all of these years i have decided to do some updating of the game UI to reflect a modern standard that the whole community has developed.
THIS MOD is only a 'mask', but i have created it to reflect a more popular, modern and versatile range of building varieties available in the entire SC4 community. i find the default tilesets too similar in 2010.
HOW THIS WORKS:
this is only a mask for the real tileset controller. it is only cosmetic, but it may inspire you to edit/mod your plugins and custom content to fit these 4 newer tileset types.
IF YOU WANT TO RE-ARRANGE YOUR PLUGINS TO USE THIS CONTROLLER, YOU MUST MOD THEM YOURSELF
What i have done at home (over the last month) is to change my plugins to the following:
OLD TILESETS: NEW TILESET:
CHICAGO AMERICANA
NEW YORK MODERN WESTERN
HOUSTON MODERN EASTERN
EURO OLD EURO/ W2W COLLECTIONS
WHY?
i have re-arranged my maxis content, and my custom downloaded content to be placed in the following new tilesets. you will have to do this manually using the Reader or the SC4 tool. i must warn you that this will take a long time to do. hopefully if this becomes a popular mod, that creators in the future will create content to fit into these categories (but it is up to them).
I personally re-arranged the Maxis Plugins so that all Chicago and New york content went into 'Americana', all Houston and Euro went into 'Mod western'. I then allocated all HKABT, SOMY, FROGFACE, Japanese content into 'Mod Eastern', and i place all w2w content into 'Old Euro'. this also allows me to switch maxis content on and off.
To me, this reflects what are more global and modern feel to the game and allows for more flexible gameplay choices and styles.
HOW TO INSTALL:
as per normal, install in one of the 3 main plugins folders.
a forum topic will be created shortly for this Mod if required.
any questions, just PM, but please read other peoples solutions first before repeating the same question over and over again.
REMINDER:
-Plugin content will stay where it is now unless you modify it yourself.
-Maxis Content will have to moved yourself, as distribution of this is against the Maxis EULA.
