Running nearly the entire lenght of the west coast of New Zealand's South Island, the Alpine Fault marks the boundry between the Indo-Australian and the Pacific tetonic plates. The top of the maps faces northwest and the Southern Alps, New Zealand's largest mountain range, can be seen to the south and east of the fault.
