These are so beautiful! Excellent work! Happy to see how much you've improved! The yellow building in particular is absolutely charming.

Really digging it! Looks a lot like a UPS service center I go to sometimes.

Wow! Jason you've somehow gotten even more extraordinary! There is some amazing work on the horizon here. Those arches are scrum-diddly-umpcious

*Taps Mic* Hello? Is this thing on? It's about time to properly necro this old thread, don't ya'll think? I should probably give a short explanation why everything died, though. Basically... hard drive crashed and lost literally everything in 2015 and I haven't had the time to restart. That is--dun dun dun--until now! I'm thinking there's no better way to get back into the swing of things by refreshing the projects that I lost way back when. Without Further Ado... Tribune Tower: Take Number Deuce I never really felt like I did the Tribune Tower justice before. My experience was non-existent and I was a literal child. So now with some actual skills and a sharper mind, I think taking a final crack at it might just be cathartic enough to warrant the effort. What I've got right now: the main tower finished already on with the primary details filled in. My goal is to end with the full complex modeled, though. I still have a ways to go in figuring out proportions and whatnot of the extensions. Not to mention all of the little details that will breathe some life into the model that I haven't even thought about yet. Chase Tower: Shoot, this is the third one already This was always my next favorite project, but it somehow never got to the finishing line I haven't spent nearly as much time on Chase as tribune, it's still closer to being done anyway. I finished proportioning the plaza today, which makes the blockout 100% complete. Now it's just details-details-details. I plan on experimenting with some new tech while modeling this (You all know how much I like experimenting) especially with the foliage in the plaza. It's got these hanging Ivy's and I have an idea for a script that I think will make some real good looking leaf blobs. I know it's not too much but I'm excited to get back into the game again. My mantra has always been perfection and I'm hoping I can start to come close with these new additions. I'm hoping to get at least one of these puppies done by December. It's been 3 years already, I think that 4 more months shouldn't be too exhausting of a wait Anyways, that's me. I hope to get some actual previews next week once I re-install BAT4Max and have some free render-time. If anyone has any questions or wants to chit-chat feel free to message me, my doors are open as of today.
  5. How are those BATs coming for Chicago?

Press the icon that looks like a floppy disc in the left upper corner of the rendered frame window. It gives you the option to save the full image rather than take a screenshot. Lookin good so far!

This looks awesome! Make sure to turn on ambient occlusion on the materials on your roof especially.

This is awesome. Thank you very much for the illustration!

I'm having a bit of a trouble with 333 Wacker. I have no clue how I'm going to lot this thing. the sides are both are 45 degree angles and the front is flat. I was going to render a second version as well where the front was 45 and the sides were flat. But I have no clue how to approach this in the first place. Can anyone enlighten me or point me in the right way to a tutorial?

I can't really speak for reddon, but for the most part, we do SD renders because HD looks out of place. It effects the quality of the zoom 5 renders in-game, and makes them look worse. The benefits they get are marginal, as well, because zoom6 is not a popular zoom in the game just because the vast majority of details are completely gone. Very small things like props are rendered HD because they really are only seen at all in that zoom level.

Sky: I changed the reflections a little so they don't end so abruptly anymore. I plan on exporting 333 wacker soon. I have the LODs exported, I just need some time to export now. As for what I've been doing, I've been hard at work on Chase Tower and I want to give you guys a taste. Note: There are no personalized textures applied yet, everything is either a flat color, or has a little bit of ambient occlusion dirt. I'm going to be doing something new for the wall bricks that hasn't been done before, I don't think, so anticipate that. Right now the grout is the wireframe projected on top. Here it is 100% remodeled from what I had before. edit: Sabretooth: That beautiful building is definitely on my radar. Expect it, not soon, but at some point in the future.

If you can get photoshop, it's the best. Gimp works in a pinch. There are lots of tutorials already out there. Just a quick google of how to texture in photoshop will get you lots of options. Inside 3ds max there are a lot of powerful options as well. Just read through some documentation and look for other sites. My favorite site for tutorials is 3dtotal.com so you can check that out. I have a tutorial of the composite map in one of my threads, This is a great option to use in addition to other methods. I usually create a series of grime maps in photoshop that I apply to the main texture through the composite map.
  13. Reddonquixote's BAT thread

Nice one! The noise textures look inflated, though. I haven't seen the real building but the noise setting is very obvious.

    There it is.
