One of the monarchs, Dom João IV, O Afortunado (The Lucky), of Reino de Portugal, choose the delta of the river Arade, wich have many small islands, to build his vacations palaces, churches, and terrains. place now called, in Portuguese: Ria d'el-Rei (River of the king), or Terras d'el Rei ( The lands of the King).
