I´m pleased to welcome you to my BAT Thread, where I will be showing you the progress of my buildings.

I haven't used 3ds Max or SC4 BAT before, even though I have been playing SC4 for ten years.

Any idea, advice or suggestion about my bating (also about my English ) is welcome.

I hope you like it.

As a Mormon, I've noted the lack of religious buildings in the STEX, so my first BAT is a LDS (Mormon) Meetinghouse, also known as chapel, which is used for weekly worship in our community. Meetinghouses are different from LDS Temples:

"Temples have a different purpose from LDS meetinghouses. Today, temples serve two main purposes: (1) Temples are locations in which worthy Latter-day Saints can perform sacred ordinances on behalf of themselves, their deceased ancestors, or unrelated deceased persons whose names are compiled from historical records through the church's Family Record Extraction Program. (2) Temples are considered to be Houses of Holiness where members can go to commune with God".

Meetinghouses can be found in almost every city, but there are only 141 operating temples (which includes 1 previously dedicated, but closed for renovation), 15 under construction, and 14 announced (not yet under construction) in the world.

This is the generic Meetinghouse style that can be found in the USA and Canada:

And there are a few in game pictures:

@Jasoncw, @edwardjeria, @SkyscraperTower Building: Thank you so much for your nice comments and suggestions  :thumb: .

I have changed the roof textures in the generic suburban meetinghouse, and also I have made a blue roof version:

And I started a new project: a Meetinghouse based in the Harlem, New York LDS Meetinghouse, I hope you like it:

    @weixc812, @Sloonei: Thank you!  :D

@KonstantinII: Yes, the second one is a w2w church.

I've posted this question in the BAT - Troubleshooting & General Discussion:

     Hi!

Does anyone know why are these gray lines showing in my BAT? I'm using 3ds max 2014.

The gray lines that you see in-game could be due to an LOD issue (someone correct me if I'm wrong). Did you add the LODs manually? There's a possibility it is too constrained or that it partially intersects with the model itself at the edge, hence the gray line. Nonetheless, lovely meetinghouse for the city, Ferrt. Now, if I may (before you upload it), judging from the reference picture you provided, the spire in real life seems to be slightly off-white (approximately 2453) and the elongated pyramid appears to be in sections (or paneled) with framed edges and a small sphere on top rather than one single shape. I don't mean to step on your toes but wanted to point 'em out (apologies, it's my OCD). :kitty: As far as recommendations, there are several that you can look into:

    • Apply some noise with fractals to the base's cream cobble cladding for a more realistic look
    • Define the columns/cornice to show the mortar in between stones
    • Contrast the separation between floors a bit more for the brick wall (a darker tone will work just fine)
    • The roof could use some weathering/cracks from all the years of rain/snow/heat--it's looking a bit too clean

    Keep going at it, you're almost there! And thanks again for sharing this beautiful BAT. :}

Thanks for your suggestions Finnbhennach  :D and your nice ideas, the problem was solved changing the background color for a darker grey.

I have worked more on this model, I hope you like it:

The roof texture has definitely improved a lot, and so has the texture on those sand-coloured stone parts! :)

The red wall texture, however, looks a bit too saturated to me now. In combination with the clean white tower, it ends up making the building look a bit cartoonish. Speaking of the tower, although the photo of the real-life building has been taken in bright sunshine, you can see some lines and seams there. The pure white (I know it's a light grey really) on your BAT looks a bit like you just forgot to texture that part.

On the last picture of the back walls in post #5, I'm wondering whether it would look better to invert the gradient. For walls, the gradient should mostly go from lighter on top to darker at the bottom.

Finally, I must confess that I'm not entirely sold on the roof junk, even though I can't put my finger on what exactly it is that doesn't convince me. Did you take a Google Maps / Bing Maps look at the roof of the real building, or is the roof junk just made up?

    Looks great :D

You surely have a great start! I am expecting alot from you.

About the first building, I suggest to use a less repetitive texture, that would be alot better, if you need help with that tell me (please quote my post if you want any help about that matter so I  can see a notification about it :P )

Hey.. I just noticed this beautiful building... I see you are here to make buildings that are lacking... Taking ideas? Have you considered making some buildings for the NYBT? You know... Some wall to wall buildings.. Just like the last one...

This is such a great start. I pointed you in the comments of the suburban meetinghouse to the LDS AEC page which has some information on different site plans (for instance, a stake center meetinghouse). There are quite a few meetinghouse styles used elsewhere besides the US and also in the US: Ireland, Australia (wow, such midcentury modern), a solar-powered meetinghouse, and some older designs that might interest you.

Not only would seminaries and institutes of religion be small but solid additions to a promising set, I'd also really love to see some temples. The only temple that's ever been done for SC4 was San Diego, and that's about 2005. I'm not Mormon, but coming from Arizona (which has lots of them) and being an admirer of LDS architecture, it's great to see these. Since you're in Hermosillo, the one there would be a good start especially since it's a lot like the standard style of the last 15 or so years of LDS temples.

Thanks neighbor!   I've added your ideas to my wish list, these Mid-century meetinghouses would be a wonderful addition to the suburban environment. Utah, Arizona and California have some unique examples.

Actually, I'm in the making of the Hermosillo Sonora, Los Angeles California and Gilbert Arizona Temples. As I said before, I'm still learning how to use 3ds max, and if I want to have a good result I have to practice more and I'm on it  :).

Great work so far, Ferrt! I have both of your meetinghouses, and I'm very pleased with them. I noticed, however, when I plopped one of the suburban meetinghouses, that the base texture for the parking lot was missing. Looking at it in the Reader, it appears to use a texture that either doesn't exist (it's in the IID range assigned to WalkingSnake, who never released a texture with the IID of 0xFF094200) or which I simply don't have. Either way, since you didn't list WalkingSnake's texture pack among the dependencies for the suburban meetinghouse, I assume it was a mistake.

I'm thrilled to read that you're working on the Los Angeles temple. While not a Mormon myself, I spent a considerable amount of time in the Westwood area of LA, so I'm quite familiar with that temple. I look forward to downloading it once you upload it!

I have been very busy in real life, but as promised, I finished the first Mormon Temple that I made. It's a "Small Identical Design".

"Beginning with the dedication of the Spokane Washington Temple on August 21, 1999, the church began an aggressive temple building cycle, constructing dozens of temples using relatively identical models and floorplans. Described as a "classic modern, single-spire design,". Other than minor variations in finish, landscaping, and setting, these temples are virtually identical."

    The small identical Temples are:

Spokane Washington Temple (59) Columbus Ohio Temple (60) Bismarck North Dakota Temple (61) Columbia South Carolina Temple (62) Detroit Michigan Temple (63) Halifax Nova Scotia Temple (64) Regina Saskatchewan Temple (65) Edmonton Alberta Temple (67) Raleigh North Carolina Temple (68) St. Paul Minnesota Temple (69) Kona Hawaii Temple (70) Ciudad Juárez México Temple (71) Oaxaca México Temple (74) Tuxtla Gutiérrez México Temple (75) Louisville Kentucky Temple (76) Palmyra New York Temple (77) Fresno California Temple (78) Medford Oregon Temple (79) Memphis Tennessee Temple (80) Reno Nevada Temple (81) Tampico México Temple (83) Nashville Tennessee Temple (84) Villahermosa México Temple (85) Montréal Québec Temple (86) San José Costa Rica Temple (87) Adelaide Australia Temple (89) Melbourne Australia Temple (90) Suva Fiji Temple (91) Mérida México Temple (92) Veracruz México Temple (93) Baton Rouge Louisiana Temple (94) Birmingham Alabama Temple (98) Porto Alegre Brazil Temple (102) Montevideo Uruguay Temple (103) Guadalajara México Temple (105) Perth Australia Temple (106) Asunción Paraguay Temple (112) Brisbane Australia Temple (115) Hermosillo Sonora México Temple (72) Oklahoma City Oklahoma Temple (95) Aba Nigeria Temple (121).

In the other hand, I have a problem with the Lot Editor, when I try to open the Temple, it opens the Harlem Meetinghouse. Do you guys know how can I solve that issue?

Hey, good to see that you managed to escape the iron grip of RL! ;)

That propblem you are experiencing looks like an IID conflict to me, i.e. your temple and the Harlem Meeting House seem to share the same Instance ID (IID). A re-render with a different IID should fix the problem.

By the way, the Mormon Temple looks really good, but I think the external spot lights at night shine a bit too brightly. The lights themselves are good, it's just the intensity that doesn't sit quite right with me.
