Show us your area's highways
Haljackey replied to hamsterTK's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
Is this the entrance into the Lincon Tunnel to Manhattan, New York, USA? I was there this April and I recall seeing somthing like this. It is so congested 24/7, yet once your in the tunnel you are at least moving slowly. Elimating the toll booths or replacing them with eletronic toll scanners would do wonders to relieve the constant traffic jam. -
Post pictures of your country's Superhighways and Mega-transit lines
Haljackey replied to Haljackey's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
Talk about crowded! In Japan they have the same problems as Sao Paulo, except they hire many gaurds whose job it is to push people into the subways. Check this video out (30 sec long) http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5446075783964926845 -

Real Highway (RHW) - Development and Support
Haljackey replied to qurlix's topic in NAM & Transit Networks
"quote> On the thread it says that this currently works as partialy functional eye candy, just using puzzel pieces that turn highway trafis into subway traffic so you can run subway lines underneath so sims can use itquote> " (Quoting messed up) Was it? I always thought that one was actually in the works. I know this one relies on subway routes below the highway to function. Kinda looks a little more Euro-styled eh? I do like the barrier and the lights, adds a little more eye candy to the RHW in the centre. I sure hope that partially-functional eye candy will evolve as part of the RHW!- 3,919 Replies

Real Highway (RHW) - Development and Support

Originally posted by: SC4Noobie Both of those look great! I hope you can create good transitions, though, as the big 4 lane one would need a puzzle piece(in my understanding) to funcution properly. I hope the 3 lane one gets released quickly, as they would be great for American styled burbs.quote> Oh, i didn't design it, I just took it from other threads in this fourm. I would check out the iorn crash berrier and 4 tile freeway threads if you want more info.- 3,919 Replies

Real Highway (RHW) - Development and Support
Haljackey replied to qurlix's topic in NAM & Transit Networks
Teaser updates: I think this is in the works! a black asphalt, 3-lane, 3 tile RHW with iorn crash berriers and emergency lanes. However, we would need some sort of transition for it kinda like the road/ave connction. Oh, and heres a 4-lane, 2 tile one way RHW, very wide and very high capicity. Hopefully over time, these could be included with the RHW and the regular highways to create one ultimate network! Oh and to solve probems involving ANT textures that many people have, I would play around with your plugin files. Some will only work in the My documents folder, others only in the C drive. Just my advice anyway, I had this problem too, and thats how I solved it!- 3,919 Replies

Show us your area's highways
Haljackey replied to hamsterTK's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
Hwy 407, kind of a semi-ring road around the Greater Toronto Area in Ontario also has outragous faires. There are no toll booths, your pass is scanned and if you do not have a pass, your licence plate is anyalysed. I drove about 1/3 of the length of the road without a pass on time to see what the high-grade highway was like. Then, 2 weeks later my bill came in the mail and I had to pay a "fine" of $55 (Canadian) because I did not have a pass. I'm never taking that road again because it is totally avoidable if you are passing through the region in a car. Heres the scanners on an onramp. No stinkin toll booth line ups! Also, in Japan, the faires are high for a good reason. --> To minimise automobile useage to reduce traffic congestion. The high fairs cause pontital drivers to use public transit. Also, the faires are high because it helps Japan to achieve its Kyoto Protocall. Less cars=less emmitions=less pollution. -
Real Highway (RHW) - Development and Support

or maybe a iron crash barrier. Look at that topic thread, think it could really apply to the RHW! And i do agree with HamsterTK, the ramps are really short. Anyway it could be lenghtened to twice that length or even more?- 3,919 Replies

Real Highway (RHW) - Development and Support
Haljackey replied to qurlix's topic in NAM & Transit Networks
Helpful advice, (which i just figured out) do not use the RHW in urban areas! Thats why its called the rural highway! However, it does look good when used with the nexus road centre/center medians I look forward to the development of this mod and would like to applaud all those people who have contrubited to this. This is awsome!!!- 3,919 Replies

So, how do you feel about Toronto?
Haljackey replied to dslr.cow's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
Toronto is the world's most multicultural city. Miami has a larger minority percent, but a lot of that is of Hispanic decent. Toronto is more diverse in its culture, its like the whole world lives there! -
Real Highway (RHW) - Development and Support
Haljackey replied to qurlix's topic in NAM & Transit Networks
True, I have many highways in yellow-orange and even red in a single city that includes every single mode of transportation, with homes and jobs close by. The problem is that its just too dense so highways and bridges get way over capacity.- 3,919 Replies

Alright, thougt it would be easy to just change the gery surface to black, but i guess its a little more complicated than that. Thanks anyway!

I have a request that many of us will probially want in our cities. I have the asphalt highway textures mod, even with it, highways are no where near as black in colour as the roads or aveneues in the game. Would it be possible to change the texture of the highway colour to have it match the darker textures of the other road types? This is better than concrete, but it is still more grey than black I would like highways to match the colour of this Is it possible to create this texture for highways?

Show us your area's highways
Haljackey replied to hamsterTK's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
I guess I should show my area's highways now. I Live in southwestern Ontario, Canada, and the closest highways to me are highway 402 and 401. Like the Autoroutes in France, a lot of safety measures are put into them. They include larger lanes, very long acelleration/decelleration lanes for getting on and off the expressway, a paved emergency lane on EACH side of the road (both left and right), rumble strips, and a concrete median. Also, to prevent weaving, all interchanges must be biult as parclos (partial colverleaves) which were invented by the province and are now used all over the world as a means to prevent weaving. Although the speed limit is only 100 KM/H, this is so that less accidents are caused. There is no advertising allowed on the freeways to keep drivers focused on the road. The 400-series of Ontario were designed to have speeds of 130-150KM/H, but the Province keeps it at 100. There are no toll booths on the 400-series highways. (hwy 407 is a toll road, but there are no toll booths because sensors scan your highway pass or cameras take a picrure of your car's licence plate). Anyway, heres a few pictures of the highways in my area What is pretty cool about these freeways is that they consist of both concrete, asphalt, and some red pavment material that i do not know what it is made of. Anyway, that is my area's highways, hope you enjoyed! -

French highways are awsome; but the problem is that most of them are toll routes, charging drivers a heafty sum to travel on them. Also, the toll booths slow down traffic because they have to stop and get a ticket, which disturbs all traffic on the freeway. -

Originally posted by: officer Pretty cool - I never realised that highways could be interesting (getting some inspiration for some of my city's freeways, lol). Just one thing i'm curious about though, what's the difference between a highway, freeway and an interstate? - in terms of lanes, whereabouts etc (I live in Britain you see - I hate it here, lol)quote> Uh.. i think a highway is just a long distance road. Highways don't need interchanges or dividers and can be only 1 lane each way. A freeway has no stoplights, they have interchanges so you have the "freedom" to cruise on the road. I think freeways can also be only one lane each way, but most are at least two with a median of either steel crash rails, concrete medians, or a large grassy section in the middle. Interstates are freeways that are owned by the US goverment i think and have to biult by meet a standard. I live in Canada, you see, and here, freeways are provincially owned. Ex. Ontario operates the 400-series highways, which has its own standards (no weaving, parclos), Quebec operates the Autoroutes that have different standards... and so on. Hope this answers your question a bit. -

Europe vs America vs Asia vs Oceania

Really, i think the best place to live is around the French Riveria. Basically anywhere between Barcelona, Spain to Monaco (inbetween the French and Italian boarder) is a paradice of warm weather with an awsome landscape of grasslands surrounded by rolling hills. Also, many of the cities in this area have class and a rich history, especially Nice, France. Believe it or not, but this area has the same latitude as southwestern Ontario, Canada, where the temp. can dip below -20 degerees in the winter. The good old Mediterranean sea keeps this area warm so palm trees grow and the weather is great all year round. Heres a pic of the Cote' Dajaur (gold coast) of Nice, France -
Originally posted by: vester_DK haljackey: A little more info is needed: What modds do have installed in the transit netowrk department ? Eurotex mod ?quote> Oh, sorry, guess it helps to let ya know. All i have is the NAM, the euro highway textures mod (not eurotext), some additional vehicle and u drive it mods, orth-highway mod, asphalt highway textures, traffic fix- perfect, transit supp 121, and thats it. Heres a picture to show the problem that I have Where the monorail crosses the elevated highway, there is no asphalt texture, so it re-routes back to the base concrete texture. Any advice about how to change this to the asphalt texture would be helpful. Thanks!
