I don't understand how any of you have gotten this to work in a window....but when I rename the shortcut with a -w at the end, Windows can't figure out what kind of file it is, and it forces me to choose a program from the list....

At this point, I'd be more than happy with a stable version of SC4 that has a well thought out mod & addon organization menu. Since that would never happen anyway I wish some programming genius out there could make one for the community

ahh - ok, I didn't see that before, I just looked up the original SC4, which isn't around anymore. I wonder if that version you posted is already patched.

My personal hypothesis is that trees are what causes the crash. Just like the original poster -- I pretty much gave up on Sim City 4 because I simply cannot play the city I put so much time and effort into, and it just got upsetting. Every single time I zoom out, sure enough, it crashes real hard. I noticed that it will zoom out for about 3 seconds, the game tries to render all of the trees, then you can hear a hard drive noise, and ultimately it crashes. I've had this happen with tons of addons installed...and I've had it happen on a clean install with no addons at all....it didn't make a difference. This was all tested/done on the largest block of land with trees scattered around the entire land area. I have a 2.8 Ghz H/T, 1 gig ram, & Nvidia 6800 GT card.

Just a stupid question....but wasn't SC4 & rush hour (and the 2 pack set) all pulled from production? I havent seen it on the shelves in over a year, and every site I've visited (Amazon, etc) says it's not available anymore. I'm glad I got it right after it came out....

Right now, I have a 2.8 Ghz (H/T), 1 GB ram and a Nvidia 6800 GT. I still find SC4 to be unplayable and I just uninstalled the game a good 6 months ago, even though it is probably one of the most addictive and fun games I have ever played Before you even comment - I worked on a rather large city in the large sized block, and it came to a point where whenever I zoomed out, the PC would crash real hard [in what appeared to be an attempt to render tons of trees]. I'm hoping to get a dual core system, 2+ GB ram and an even better graphics card this summer, which would also mean that my SC4 days will return once again.

I've been away from Simtropolis.com for many months but revisited this thread, looks great I still say that if I ever used this many trees, my PC would crash in a split second!

looks good...the massive cluster of 1x1 parking lots is a little strange though

it's just personal preference. Like someone said, many people associate them with Disneyworld, that includes me. I'd rather use el-trains, subways and busses. Most of my designs are *really* boring. I'm from jersey, so I'm used to being in super compacted areas where buildings are on top of each other on all four sides, with no fields or trees anywhere....unfortunately, that is seen in my SC cities too, I'm trying to overcome that
