After a long hiatus from SimCity and modelling, I recently picked up BATing again and started finishing a couple of models I began working on many, many years ago. Among them: The Staatsbibliothek Unter den Linden in Berlin (pre-war) The Geschossbau by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in Stuttgart A couple of modern residential W2W, more or less inspired by some developement in Berlin And last but not least Sophienholm, a lovely country house in Lyngby near Copenhagen, but this one is still in the works.

@JP Schriefer Thanks! Well, after having rendered the Staatsbibliothek, nothing can shock me anymore regarding building size. @SimCoug Thanks! Yes, in fact I wanted to recreate this beauty a very long time ago (when I still used gmax for modelling, in fact - THAT long ago). It certainly would be a lot nicer than the vanilla mayor's mansion. Quick update on the main facade, where the modelling is mostly done:

Well, the building itself will at least need 7x6 tiles. While it shouldn't get much wider (since I'd refrain from modelling the gate to the Bundespraesidialamt, still the width would be rather tight, so add another tile to that dimension), a possible Lot could feature a little square and garden in front and/or behind the building, so maybe save ~8x10.

Well, you certainly did ... "win" ... on that one. A sneak preview of the start for my next recreation:

Thank you very much, guys! @Jasoncw In fact I still have yet another Lot in the works which, as you suggest, will have a similar layout as the original building with backyards enclosed in hedges and more grass in front of it. Still might take me some more time, since I am very busy working on my thesis these days. @madhatter106 I really don't know if an appropriate translation for it could even exist, so we should leave it at that. I too went to French classes for six years, but there's not so much left of it, so nevermind. I have good news for you: The Staatsbibliothek is now available for download. Have fun with it!

Just to keep you updated: SimCityKurier is back online, but it seems there are still problems with the new PHP version and the old software, so Spocky integrated it directly into SimCityPlaza. Some files might not have survived the move (and all old links will be leading nowhere now unfortunately), but Spocky is still working on improving this and also the overall set-up and design. At least it's mostly running again.

I think my jaw just smashed through the ground floor when it dropped. Incredible work!

It seems that Spocky has a couple of problems with his server provider, which is why SimCityPlaza has been down as well for a while now. He just announced that SimCityPlaza is back online again, let's hope he'll also get the Kurier back soon.

I hope I did not appear too fierce with my advice in first place, I simply thought a more inconspicuous texture would be more suitable for such a modular approach, besides which I like very much! And as I said before, this new roof texture looks a lot better IMHO.

Thank you! Unfortunately I have to confess, I will never touch the model of the Staatsbibliothek again. It was a giant PITA to get this baby rendered at all and so we will have to live with a couple of shortcomings the model still has. But after many years and countless hours of work I just didn't have any more patience to further work on it but instead get it into the game as is. This is a very short version of a very long story full of frustration, struggles and many many errors I ran into. Thank you! This building actually is very clean and has only few interesting details along its very clear, scandinavian classical facade, which is also why I like the stairs of it very much. Glad to hear I to having them nailed. Was lange währt... (und so). Thank you as well! It indeed feels very good! Although, lacking a proper plugins folder and the time to build one, I'm not playing the game actually, but I rediscovered BATing as the fantastic way to procrastinate (instead of working on my thesis...) it is. And in fact I do feel a little remorse having been absent for so long and having left so much stuff unfinished, so this is also a huge relief for myself. Did some fine tuning on the windows of Sophienholm (set them back a little more and elongated the sills).

Although RippleJet hasn't been around anywhere in the SC community for years now, I can't imagine he'd have a vote against that. Credit him for his work and it should be fine. And after all, these still are your creations.

Another good one. IMO you just caught the Berlin feeling in this new BAT. You could leave the letters though, because in a CJ or so everyone could use it as short for anything else, but you're particular right about the flag. Yet an advice on the tiling roof texture... I think it's a little bit out of place, you should consider using a (concrete) texture that is more similar to the one you used one floor higher.

Good work on the Beisheim Center, it was on my "Stuff-to-do"-list as well, but you executed it very well till now, so I don't see a reason the start on it myself. About the UVW-Unwrapping, maybe you will find this tutorial useful (it's in german and at the end of the first page the Unwrapping starts to get explained very well): Tutorial Furthermore, Odd from Sweden is particuarly right about the plants - you actually only need to create boxes, tubes or what ever and give it a bit more shape with the Mesh Editor for exampel. A good texture will do the rest, anything about alpha mapping shouldn't be needed for that.
