  1. For all of you who want to build a rural area: Farms need a road but only along one side. They need power but they can't have water. Build power lines along the road and keep pipes at least 7 tiles from farmland. Farms only develop on light industrial zones, and are best in 8x8 blocks. They fail if polution gets worse than low, but they produce polution, which means that every farm needs "hedges" around it to be sustainable. Plant 3 tiles of dense forrest between farms, and 5 between a farm and light residential. Keep heavy poluters far away. A farm develops all at once, so wait untill industrial demand is half-full before zoning a block. Once zoned, buldoze anything that popps up on the block that isn't plowed/wheat field. As soon as you see fields, pause and mark all tiles as historic, fields and buildings. If you miss one tile, as soon as conditions are not ideal, that tile will turn into industy and poison everything else. Then you'll need to de-histoic all the other tiles, buldoze the whole block, plant trees on poluted tiles to remove polution, and start over. Make sure you've made everything historic. Double check. Yes, it's tedious but salvaging a missed tile sucks. And having a big rural area is worth it. Once historic, the fileds will stay that way forever. Farm buildings will get abandoned if industrial demands goes into negative, but they will not turn into industry, and will recover as soon as demand is positive again. This will go in cycles, and is fun to watch. Anyway, wait untill industral demand is half-full again to zone the next block. Repeat as much as you want. And only build residential next to the "hedge"! Example:

    @THijSCiTy Your research is fascinating

Thank you., i really needed this because the BAT only works on low-res, so I need a way to switch from standard to hd.
  4. Natural Growth Philosophies / Mindsets

I tend to put road+power+water to the edge of the park, and two low-density comercial buildings, one on each side, on the end of the road. And that's it. One's a restaurant/cafe, the other is a souvenir shop. Done.

@THijSCiTy Oh, I gottta try that 😁 Nice work 👍 This might help with your residential demand problems:
  6. Any possibility of meeting anyone of you IRL? SimCon...?

Oh, I get that. You know, job, family, friends, other hobbies... Some of us are stuck in our ruts

@SimCityHawk Wow. That's a really detailed port. And the farms are cute
  8. Any possibility of meeting anyone of you IRL? SimCon...?

I'm just not looking for anything more than this site already provides. It's nice to swap creations and tips with people who are into the same thing, and joke around about it, but beyond that, no thanks. Sorry. 😐

@Captain Adam Cool! I'm gonna try the BAT again
  10. Show us what you are working on in SimCity 3000!

@Captain Adam Wow! Did you make them from nothing? I tried to re-model some buildings (not just change texturesž from of and props), but couldn't understand the coordinate system.

I didn't have a problem last time either, now some things just glitch. But I'm sorting it out.

    It worked!

Yep, that's the one I'm having trouble with. It's realy weird. I have 3 files: - scu.exe, original, created 2016-06-08; - scu_hd.exe, widescreen, created 2019-02-20; - shortcut When I open the original file - directly or via shortcut, whether it's called scu.exe or scu_orig.exe - it launches the game fine, in 3-4 ratio. When I try to open the widescreen file directly, renamed scu.exe, it throws an error - UV.dll not found. BUT When the hd file is called scu.exe, and I click the shortcut, the game launches! In 3-4 ratio! ??? And it's glacial. Loading a map takes a minute, and there's a lag of a few seconds. The file UV.dll exists in the Simcity3000Unlimited/Apps folder, but I'm not sure if it's corrupted. I've found it on a few sites, but they all have ambiguous reputation - some reviewers say they're trustworty and others say they've got malware. Also I'e found another site tat says that messing with the dll can crash your computer, so, yeah. I've also found a patcher here https://www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-SimCity-3000-Resolution-Patcher I think I'm gonna try that one now and see if it works.

I'll show you the whole thing when I get the wide-screen working.

Thank you all for your sympathy. I have made use of data retrieval, and by some miracle, my private files were in the 5% uncorrupted files. The professional files were backed up so no losses. . I will be backing up my in-progress cities here from now on. I just can't get the game to play in wide-screen. It's alive! Campus and research center in one corner, military and rural sprawl across the river, nature park to the north. PS - the merchant quarter looks horrendous with the American building set.

I had to reinstall SC3k Unlimited, but now the GOG patch doesn't work. Trying to launch throws an error - UV.dll not found. OS is windows 10, same as before. Help please.

Gah! My disc crashed! Fort Rivers is gone. Ah well, time for New Fort Rivers

It's a feature, not a bug! The actual in-game farms always looked too American to me - monocrop wheat fields and big red barns. So! Putting down clusters of low density residential around the city propper would give the *look* of European satelite vilages, instead of American suburbia. I'm gonna try it right now!

Fort Rivers new town The city has spilled out of its walls and reached all the way to the docks, which now line 3 of it's 4 rivers. Dense and still growing, the city managed to remain human scaled. Private houses are rare, but skyscrapers are outlawed.
  21. The economy

Thank you for saving them, this is huge.
  22. The economy

This is awsome Do you happen to know where these numbers come from? I would like to make a mixed zoning mod (ground floor shops, workshops with store fronts, home studios etc) Thanks in advance.
  23. RCI demands wonky

Hmm I have docks+industry (High, mid and low density) on 3 sides of the map, for a city half the size. What would happen if you zoned more docks? 😕
  24. Introduce Yourself Here!

Are you not allowed to take walks? Walks are the only thing that was never forbidden here, even in strictest lockdown. Oh, RCI multi would be great for shops on the ground floor of apartment buildings! Also much less congestion if the sims' needs are covered in their own block. And small workshops with a store front. A home art studio / garage workshop (clean industry $$$). So many uses for mixed zoning.
  25. RCI demands wonky

No idea. I have not been moding. The Omnibus has a ton of info but you gotta trawl it. 😑 Good luck!
