  1. I'm guessing that's just way too many faces to make a reasonable job of uv mapping. If that's a model from the 3d warehouse, it probably has too many triangles in general too. Best bet is to make your own model in sketchup to keep the faces simple and easier to work with while unwrapping
  2. Minimum diffuse texture size?

I've tried a 16x16 for a logo prop a while back and it didn't look too good, so now I just use 32 as a min
  3. Check out this thread
  4. Been a minute since I've posted here, but here's a few things in various stages that I've been working on lately. *update for my Macy's *Dillard's *couple of seafood restaurants *Riverboat that never got off the ground that i'm thinking about reviving.
  5. Fired it up last week and made some minor changes, still on hiatus tho.
  6. thanks. I've already done Zaxbys and a dollar general
  7. Zaxby's is my favorite fast food place...... Dollar General you say...? No Win-Dixie unless a donor requests it. I didn't really care for Food Lion, I can't even remember going there when I lived in a city that had one. Maybe a Save-a-lot one day. It took me a year and a half of making assets to get around to Sears, so I wouldn't hold my breath.
  8. It's been so long since I've posted here, I had to search for my thread.....almost finished working on this asset, this should be a little gem.
  9. ...and closes on the same day! http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1142155781
  10. the 'new' file I updated the pack with was saved before the update :-(
  11. I resaved all of them, but in the content manager, all thumbnails are wrong and I can't click on the folder to update the pack for any of the items.
  12. omg, you might have just saved me. I was going to contact you today to ask if you could help me with this. I tried to add a new logo to this prop pack http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=814749981 2 days ago and all hell broke loose. I couldn't update again, but I will try saving all of them again then seeing if it will allow me to update.
  13. nothing wrong with Vanilla props, just the trees. I've come to leave out all trees in general for the most part.
  14. lol, probably the same guy I got into it with once...but then again there are so many. Was trying to say i was lazy because I refused to add a bush to an asset from a year ago. like why stress out about it, especially when it doesn't affect the game
  15. it's also possible that the creator used a local version of the prop, the prop has been removed, or the prop was updated on the workshop and somehow is no longer recognized by the game as the same prop if you can't find it on the workshop anymore. I'd recommend a post-it note and cover that part of the screen during the loading screen mod, some of it will be unavoidable. I've grown to despise the feature. I've had players post comments on ever single asset I have in the workshop that missed adding one prop or another.
  16. Certainly not the best advice so don't listen, but I totally guess it lol. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=976334424 I did a very similar building to the Toronto Star building, and never once looked at the real stats of the building, except counting the number of floors from google maps, which I think I still changed. But I have made like a million assets for CS so I have a little experience with scale and floor height in-game, and I don't aim for a 100% recreation of IRL buildings, just inspired by them. I'm also not nearly as good of a 3d modeler as Darf though, and probably don't have half of the technical skill and knowledge. Maybe I'll do better in the future
  17. Help on first C:S Asset?

I disagree. If you have the time and motivation to compare, contrast, and learn two different programs...then try both out and see what sticks. I had no problem finding tutorials directly related to using Sketchup to make assets for Cities Skylines. Sometimes too many tutorials can be overwhelming. Although I do use 3d Max as an intermediary, and after a year and a half of using it, it's still intimidating as hell to me, someone without 3d modeling experience. (It's kinda free if you have access to a .edu email). I guess it doesn't matter if you're starting from Zero, but starting with Sketchup and zero knowledge worked out okay for me I would guess.
  18. these models look great. I would recommend trying to get your texture size/file size down a bit. Texture size is the main contributor to file size. 1024 x 1024 is usually more than enough space to render a 4 story building. I've had success with similar styled buildings at 512 x 512 but at a cost of a few more triangles and significant overlapping, which may not be feasible since you're converting existing models. Also including vanilla trees in assets is kinda out of style these day lol. Great job so far tho, getting started is one of the hardest parts
  19. I haven't switched, tried the new roads and had the tabs disappear in the road menu. The roads really didn't add much for me to deal with the confusion so I unsubscribed.
  20. Updated Children's Hospital with better textures, improved night lights, and functional heliport http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=689804690
  21. Just released a pack of 11 Shotgun level 1 residential houses. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=944815848
  22. So much gloom and doom in this thread. some players wouldn't be satisfied if Zeus stepped down from Mount Olympus and delivered city building with every aspect of everything, from having to campaign for mayor, to being able to plant each tomato on a farm in the rural countryside. In a city building/simulation/management game the options and possibilities are infinite. To come up with a list of "basics" of a game with that scope would be endless. I think CO does a great job of interacting with the fan base and listening. I think they miss the mark sometimes and have some really stupid ideas that they probably think are great, with a small team, some crap is just going to slip by. (I hate chirpy) I think they could implement more simulation that actually matters in the game, but as said before, I don't think they are going to add anything that radically changes the way the game is played or simulated at this point, especially in a DLC that every player isn't going to buy. That's like adding forest fires to the base game that can only be put out from a mechanism included in the DLC. So they have to focus mostly on adding optional features that aren't really necessary and don't change how the base game is played for the person without any DLC.
  23. yea, I started a Comfort Inn and some other one. Never made it to the finish line though. I haven't looked it this thing since last July prior to taking this screenshot! It honestly doesn't look too bad, but I'm sure i'd have to start from scratch if I were to revive it.
  24. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=935161625 Zaxby's http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=935492430 Payless Got around to finishing Zaxby's. It's the first asset I ever started working on when I started learning how to make assets. And I started over completely a couple different times on it, making it the asset that's taken the longest from start to finish. On the other end of the spectrum, an asset that took me about an hour to start and upload since it's just a previous asset combined with a logo that I had already uploaded before.
