Discussion about Always-On Connection to Origin
cirugo replied to neurokirurgi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
With that same line of thought, I could also say that if I were to somehow lose my copy due to events out of my control (who knows, maybe my laptop killed itself and the disk inside it), I would still have access to the game. Not trying to defend origin, but I do find that sort of feature convenient. Option to save to the "Cloud"...fine. ONLY saving to the "Cloud" ...not fine. -
Major SimCity misconceptions dispelled
cirugo replied to VeritaScientia's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
No one's complaining about an online component. They're complaining that it's the ONLY component. -
Do you want to know what they'll look like without careful camera angle? Go to the official site www.simcity.com Wait for the multiplayer part to come on the screen. That's an actual in-game screenshot of a region... Skyscraper islands in a sea of green.

SimCity Developers' Reddit AMA Swiftly Turns Into WTF With The Online-Only DRM?
cirugo commented on Freddyeddy's article in News
thank you for setting the record straight on that. People wonder why I keep harping about this? That's one reason...there are still a lot of people out there who don't even realize this about the game. -
Major SimCity misconceptions dispelled
cirugo replied to VeritaScientia's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
OK...these are not misconceptions. They are facts about the game that have been confirmed numerous, numerous times. If you like them and want to give reasons why it's been designed the way it is then that's up to you but no one's misinformed about anything here.- 26 Replies

I agree with every point except for the "less cheesy graphics." Some people prefer the existing graphics, for aesthetic reasons, for system requirements reason (as they chose this graphical style to allow lower-end computers to run the game smoothly as well), or both. However, realistic graphics require a more realistic system requirement (in other words, very much top-of-the-line specs, which most people who play city simulators tend not to buy). The graphics are one of the few things I don't have a problem with...althought I dislike a lot of the building designs and that's one reason why the game needs mods.

cut back on the micro-level simulation. There are more people upset about small maps and the inability to create realistic-looking cities than there are fascinated with following each and every sim all over the region.
-
58 percent are saying no or not unless they remove online-only and map-size constraints. That's a pretty hefty majority.

Ahh thanks. I agree with the majority of the posters. I won't buy the game until the reviews are out and I'm able to see what the SC4 vets have to say. I find it funny though that the devs only responded to posts that had something nice to say about the game and didn't even reply to the negative ones (from what I saw). That's been their pattern since the game was announced.

Discussion about Always-On Connection to Origin
cirugo replied to neurokirurgi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
What I don't understand is what DRM has to do with Origin. I know next to nothing about Origin. All I know is that Origin is some type of interface where you connect to play games with other people through the Internet, and that EA makes extensive use of it. Origin is an EA exclusive online portal to EA games. As far as DRM goes, it's the reason many of us believe that this SimCity is online-only. Their gameplay explanations were weak to begin with and even more so now that they're trying to promote the fact that you can play your own region without having to interact with others. If this is the case then why the internet connection requirement? They get a very well-deserved comeuppance at their Reddit AMAA in my opinion. -
Discussion about Always-On Connection to Origin
cirugo replied to neurokirurgi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Not too surprising considering how bad some companies have gotten with their Anti-piracy measures. Now if only more people would realize that SimCity's online requirement is an integral part of the gameplay rather than a DRM scheme. If that was the case they wouldn't be backing away from their initial claims that it was due to "compelling gameplay" and pushing the fact that they can play your own region and not have to participate in the multiplayer. They claimed that we would all understand and accept why it had to be online-only with E3. E3 has come and gone and it's still an issue. This is about DRM. -
Look carefully at that third screenshot...you can see where the wall of skyscrapers ends at the extent of the buildable area and the sea of empty green space begins. Ugh.

http://www.gameranx.com/features/id/11481/article/maxis-bombs-reddit-amaa/ "On Friday, thousands of Reddit users slammed EA and the SimCity development team in an “AMAA” question-and-answer thread, taking the company to task for DRM measures that have been announced for the upcoming SimCity reboot on PC. Senior producer Kip Katsarelis replied to the “Ask Me Almost Anything” session's top-rated question by confirming that the rebooted SimCity will all but require an online connection—and will not boot without checking into EA's servers." It appears that their AMAA wasn't too well-received... -
Discussion about City Tile Size
cirugo replied to alex macnamara's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
You can use the whole tile (that was the definition of the tile is...), but the tiles are just not directly adjacent. I'm fine with the tile size. yup the dealbreaker is the gaps between them. And a MAXIS dev on the official forum was talking about this very issue and they said they didn't want to give up the real time/same time simulation in the next cities that would be required to fix this...according to him it was "awesome" to see your friend's city growing in the distance...- 1,284 Replies

Speculation & Discussion
cirugo replied to waybig's topic in SimCity (2013) Modding - Open Discussion
Many of the things that people are unhappy about with this game can be, I think, traced to the necessity of balancing the game for multiplayer. I can't see how anyone will be able to mod it like they expect they will because of this. Separating multiplayer and single-player would remove this concern and would make many of the things people aren't happy about resolve themselves. -
IMO bigger maps really aren't necessary as long as they allow us to build cities adjacent to each other. From the strategy videos, it looks as though the cities owned by a player essentially function as a single city, automatically sharing resources. Add in the fact that you can quickly jump between cities, and the SC4 idea of a city spanning a whole region can be properly realized. The problem is that the cities are separated from one another, so it's impossible for them to come together to form a single metropolis. Precisely. That's one of the things I'm talking about when I say that the problem is more than just small maps.

Discussion about Always-On Connection to Origin
cirugo replied to neurokirurgi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
That COMPLETELY contradicts everything that has been said up to this point. They either need to set their tech people straight or give people the straight story. They've already muddied the waters (deliberately in my opinion) when they stated something back right after the announcement about only requiring internet at launch. That was misleading and they never made an attempt to clarify it. -
I'll say it again and I'll keep saying it until you stop deleting my posts or you just kick me off the site. The game is going to need a LOT more than just bigger maps.
-
Precisely why it should fail. Removing a gamer's control over when and where he or she can play the game is not a trend that anyone should support in my opinion.
-
No surprises for me. The one thing that shows they're not COMPLETELY tone-deaf to what people want was the mentioning of turning off random disasters. That's the first actual confirmation of that I've heard. They've got a lot more to fix. And the casinos and police station are ugly in my opinion. Modders needed STAT! (assuming they can actually add buildings to the game...)

It will if they actually try to take some lessons out of said failure. They've had ten years worth of seeing what people wanted and what they've done with the previous game. They've had two failures in that time to know what NOT to do. They learned nothing from any of that.

completely unimpressed

Because there is so much negativity in the forums that everyone is thinking that this game will suck? Joking aside, i think this game will succeed. The question is how long? SimCity is set in stone but when there is enough demand for proper region play and all the other things hardcore SC4 players demand we may have a chance to get some of these things in SimCity 2. Who knows? When SC fails this genre will be dead for another 10 years or maybe forever. the negativity is based upon reactions to the confirmed things we know about the game...it's not just coming out of thin air for no reason.

If it fails, we will be no doubt as to why. Everything that people don't like has been screamed at them for months now and they choose to ignore it.
