  1. Importing Music to SC4

As I remember, files put in that folder have to be .mp3, not .MP3. Or maybe the other way around, I forget. The capitalization of the file extension has to be right. I don't know why. It's an oddity of the game. Or, if you have an iPod or other MP3 player, go to your local electronics store and pick up a stereo headphone cable, with both ends male. Both ends should fit into your player's headphone jack. Connect one end to your MP3 player, and the other to your computer's "line in" or "audio in" jack (it should be on the back, next to the place where you plug in your speakers". Then you can control your music, which you can't do if you import it to the game.
  2. Dirt roads and SC4Update4BAT

The dirt roads are a separate plugin from the NAM. Look in your plugins folder for dirt roads, and remove the plugin. Generally, we don't do the re-uploading thing here. Try clicking on the lost password link on the official site.
  3. I think enlarging the signs would make them look a little cartoony. Plus, if you can't read the signs, you don't have to worry about it being too high. For example, on highways like that where I live, the speed limit can be 55 of 65, but somewhere like Arizona the speed limit is higher.
  4. Problem

What are your system specs? Have you downloaded any plugins? Could we have a picture? My guess is either you downloaded something without getting dependencies, or you have a computer that can't handle SC4.
  5. Wow. That is amazing! It's absolutely what I want! Although, now that I think about it, if the guard rail could be taken away when the two sides were separate by a tile or more, and placed as a lot or something in that median, that would more closely resemble what I see where I live. It still looks wonderful, though. Amazing work!
  6. blahdy, that is amazing. I truly can not wait to use that.
  7. Project: 3d Skyline (SUCCESSFUL!)

skyline4 looked like something directly out of Google Earth! Amazing!
  8. Monte Cristo is at it again...

Yeah! There we go! Still leaves some to be desired, and still not sure it's my thing, but that is more like what we want!
  9. linux for mac

It's great for some things, and not for others. As a part-time Linux user, I disagree that it's not user friendly. But that isn't the point here. The point is nino71's question. I don't know much about the processors on other macs, but Ubuntu, which is what I use, should work on any Intel-based mac. The main difference is the processor. If you have an Intel or I think most AMDs, you can use Ubuntu. However, I'm not sure why you would switch from OSX to Linux. While I firmly believe that Linux is a superior OS, I really don't think you will see the benefits, especially since it is quite difficult to get SC4 to work on Linux (Thank you, Microsoft, for without your proprietary software, where would the world be?). Though it is not to my personal taste, OSX has a more friendly interface than any version of Linux I've seen. And it can be annoying to install Linux. You have to re-do the partition on the disk, which isn't all that bad with Ubuntu's graphical install and partition system. But if you want a dual-boot system, it can get a little confusing, and you could partition incorrectly and corrupt your other OS either slightly, like I did the first time I installed Linux, or majorly to the point of it not working any more. And although there are essentials that will work on Linux, like OpenOffice for office suite and GIMP for image editing, which I now use on Windows as well, it can be hard to find other programs for linux. I hope that was useful.
  10. Originally posted by: haljackey WOW! Suburb job with those Toll textures Dexter! I really like the one for the RHW-2! All tollways are electronic here, so there is no need for the booths. By the way, what is this "tag" line or "EZ" pass that people are talking about? If those are electronic, why to people have to slow down to 5 Mph at the scanners? Shouldn't they be able to pass by at whatever the normal speed is on the highway?quote> Actually, that's a good question. The reason is with EZPass, the New York State Thruway's RFID toll tag system, the lanes are mixed in with the chash lanes. So the cashiers need to walk across the EZPass lanes to get to the cash lanes. The speed is limited to 5MPH so that the toll collectors don't get hit. The 20MPH ones are actually really new. They're on the end of the toll plaza opposite the place where the workers enter, so nobody needs to go down there. I'm not sure why they chose 20MPH, since the tag can be detected and read at over 35. IMO, they should switch to a system that I heard is being used in Canada, where it reads your license plate at highway speed and bills you based on that. But a bunch of idiots think its an invasion of privacy, even though the booths already take pictures of your plates, and if you don't like it you can use US 9+20.
  11. The seach function is pretty messed up on the STEX right now. There's probably a link somewhere in the thread. As for the other problem, a picture would be nice. But make sure that the oneways are going the right way (into the on ramps and off the off ramps) and that they actually go into the lot, rather than just going up to it. And the subway lines need to connect to the little square under the lot that you see in the subway view. If there isn't one, just run it the whole length of the lot. I hope that helps.
  12. Also, those symbols at the ends of the image, I think those are speed limits? For those of us in the States, that wouldn't be good. I assume that those are 30 KPH, which is about 18 MPH. Where I am, the absolute highest for tag-dedicated lanes is 20 (And those are painted EZPass purple, so the idea of painting those red isn't a bad one), but most are 5mph. Other than that, it's great!
  13. Follow up to last nights chat

I agree win MrCinatit that most cities are indeed plopped. But the reason that plopping in SC4 is painful is that it is, in fact, boring. Plopping a downtown is fun, but I don't want to imagine plopping the multiple square kilometer suburbs that I have. And zones, along with the building era selection, allows for the much more diversity, without having to open up a menu and select a different building every time. Think about the time it takes to lay out a city with zones. For me, it usually takes about two to three times as long to do the R and I as it does to plop my Downtown, which usually takes up about a quarter of the city. If I decide to make unique or complex transportation, it'll take longer. Anyway, Tilted Mill says they are listening. But are they understanding?
  14. NationStates.net - Simtropolis Region

Due to recent discussion, I have archived the regional board here. These are the posts relating to this discussion that were viewable at the time of copying. Archive of discussion: Originally posted by: The Digital NetworkI think we may need to change the rules and make this region more open, so therefore I agree. quote> Originally posted by: Metropolitan HoustonPerhaps we should expand our recruiting base to include SC4Devotionquote> Originally posted by: Asiatic Landi actually looked up nsdossier yesterday and kind of found out already. i agree that we should include Sc4devotion, and far as i know most sc4devotion member are members of simtropolis too, so basically that wouldn't be very effective. Also even if its not how ive described, like metropolitan houston said on the thread, they will have no access to the thread in order to leave message. which makes me stuck now....quote> Originally posted by: The Digital NetworkThis is a difficult situation to be in, as SC4Devotion members can be the same as Simtropolis members (As Asiatic Land just said), we could expand to other Sim fan sites, such as ModtheSims2.com etc (Amazingly some people I know who play The Sims don't play Simcity), or we could promote on the NS Forum?.quote> Originally posted by: Metropolitan HoustonExpanding to the other sites doesn't solve the issue of access to the forum. If anyone wanted to join our region, regardless of what Sim site they're on, they'd ultimately would have to sign up over on Simtropolis before doing so. Unless someone's willing to host a completely new forum separate from the Simtropolis site, which would make no sense at all.quote> Originally posted by: The Digital NetworkThat's the problem we have Met. Houston, expanding to other Sim fan sites may help with recruiting new members, but the communication issue remains, but I am sure other regions here on NS have there own forums. How about setting up a topic on the NS Forums and continue discussion there and have a link (as well as a recruiting message) to the NS Forum on different Sim Fan Site Forums, if people are interested they would only need to register at NS not Simtropolis as well. It's a suggestion but at least it is something.quote> Originally posted by: AudlandThe IDU has on offsite forum hosted by invisionfree. That's basically the standard of regions in this game. We could certainly do that, but then, would we really be the Simtropolis region anymore? I know of two other simcity based regions in NS, but neither are as sucessful as ours. I see this going in one of two directions: 1) We stay just Simtropolis members only. Nothing changes. 2) We admit persons from other sites such as SC4Devotion. We start a single off-site forum for our region. In this event, we may want to change our name to "Sim Cities Union" or some such thing. I think that might be a good idea to draw in some more long-staying members. No offense to anybody, but this region has a tendency to have a lot of people who stay for only a few months. The second option has grown on me. I think that might be the way to go. Is oldfart still a member at ST? It might be nice to get his input, as he founded the region.quote>
  15. How do you feel about the SCS announcement?

I agree completely, Alkaola. EA has disenfranchised the loyal community in exchange for a new one. I can see the reasoning behind wanting to bring in new players, but they just guaranteed themselves the loss of plenty of us. Unless some serious improvement is made with Societies, I won't be buying it. At the very least, I'll be waiting until ST comes out with at least as much custom stuff as it has for SC4. Also, as I look at the progression of graphics between the games, I think Societies is just as cartoony as SC3k.
  16. Um, Mayor Abe, if you don't mean any offense, you might not want to call the project repulsive. Repulsive is a strong word. Anyway, amazing work, blahdy.
  17. GLR on Avenue Stations

It worked to TE it for the avenue, but the GLR didn't seem to want to travel through or get off.
  18. GLR on Avenue Stations

Yeah, it's transparent. I made the model is Sketchup, exported it into Gmax, retextured, and then rendered. I skipped the glass because I couldn't figure out how to do transparent textures in Gmax.
  19. adding features to the EXE

I'll have to read the EULA again, but what about a program that edits the binary without having any of the binary's original data? I know something like that is around to downgrade Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas because the new version did not support modification of files that were previously able to be changed. I'll see if I can find a link to it. EDIT: Apparently that's not how that one works. Sorry. But the question remains; Is it possible to make a program that edits the EXE without containing any data from the EXE? I'm not very knowledgable when it comes to EXE stuff, so please excuse me if this is completely crazy.
  20. Asphalt Streets

Wow. This is great! I can't wait to use it.
  21. Hmmm. Well, if we assume I have all the powers one would have in SC4, I'd move the Normanskill around a bit, and completely redo exit 23 off the NYS Thruway, including the whole approach of the Thruway, US 9W, and I-787. That place is a mess. And Noonan Ln. runs right through it. That road annoys me, because it only serves three houses, and yet Thruway tolls go to maintaining the extra overpasses created by it, all because some politician's friend lived back there when the Thruway was built.
  22. Um. Which part was the model in those? I saw the satellite pictures....
  23. NAM General Discussion Thread

So, um, I'm a little confused about the NAM. What do I have to download and install to get the NAM and RHW to work. It seems like I download the old NAM, then the NAM essentials, and install that, and then I put the RHW plugin in the folder, and.. What I'm getting at is, is there a clear installation manual on all of this somewhere?
  24. Wooooaaaahhhh! One question, though. Won't the subway for the El-rail and the subway for the ramp get mixed up there? Lotta pageflips there.
