  1. Does Anyone Have Yoot Tower for PC?

Man, that's slow. It's downloading at 1 KB/s. Is there anywhere a bit faster to download it from?
  2. RHW- Show us your pics!

Here's RHW overpassing RHW and a PEG canal. I know what your question is, and the answer is avenue over avenue puzzle piece.
  3. 60 storey house

Somebody needs to donate more to charities... A nation without proper utilities in many areas, and this guy is willing to build a 60-story house, just for himself.
  4. Avenue Roundabouts

Make sure you installed the avenue roundabouts option, then look in your roads menu for the avenue roundabouts button. Use the first one for for orthogonal (non-diagonal) intersections, and press tab for the one you use with diagonals.
  5. The point that is really being made here is: No more Maxis. Which means no more Maxis-made simcities. Which, judging by SCS, means no more good simcities. Personally I hope SCS is a Windows ME-scale flop. *Insert expletive-filled sentance aimed at Electronic bleepholes here*
  6. NDEX ITS Sims Co of Esterton

    Cool! Nice building.
  7. Region Night view

It might be possible by editing how the game save the city images, but I doubt it. My suggestion would be to go to the farthest out zoom level and take pictures of the city, then put them together with an image editing program.
  8. How do u minimize the screen???

Hold down the alt button and press tab. If you still hear city noise, it hasn't fully minimized. Press the windows key to bring up the start menu. It sometimes helps to have another window open before you start the game.
  9. Bra and Panties cause Road Collapse

I saw this in the ticker on the front page.I just had to see what this is about. Hilarious!
  10. Pop causing cancer?

Sure, maybe if you have a über-size Coke with your McDonalds lunch and dinner every day. But I think it would cause acid reflux far before cancer. The amount would have to be phenomenal to cause cancer, otherwise, people who have been drinking Coke for decades would have cancer rates that were way up there. This is just scaremongery. Sort of like how people used to think diet soda made you go crazy, red dye number something gave you cancer, and radio waves could give you a brain tumor. On the topic of soda, did you know that in Mexico, sugar is used instead of high-fructose corn syrup in drinks such as Sprite, and that aspartame isn't used in diet drinks? Real sugar in the drink tastes a lot better, and aspartame just tastes awful. So would someone from Mexico mind sending me a few cases of soda? EDIT: I just mentioned this to my mother, who is a doctor, especially the reference to acid reflux: A significant biological explanation showed that the increased dose and length of esophageal exposure to acid led to episodes of gastric distension that triggered acid reflux.quote>She said that this isn't anything formal, and she hasn't done any research but in her opinion, the theory that soda gives you cancer is bull. She said, and I'm paraphrasing here, that yes, soda could cause cancer, but only if it gave you acid reflux. What's the difference between acid reflux acid and soda acid? Well, acid reflux is a chronic condition that occurs over and over, all day long. But soda acid goes down once, and it's done. And by the logic of 'soda is acidic and acid causes cancer, therefore soda causes cancer' things like tomato juice, salad dressing, in fact anything with vinegar that hasn't been neutralized, would all cause cancer.
  11. Mass transit developments

My dad can remember trollies running down Second Avenue in Albany, NY. We got rid of them well before I was born. Now all we have is the CDTA bus lines. But, in an effort to make the worthless system better, we spent a ton of money to change the colors. Yay, progress!

  13. Becoming afraid to post

I don't personally consider "nice work" to be spam. I think that's a compliment. Sure, some value to your post is nice, but when I do work that someone thinks is nice, I don't mind if someone lets me know. If it isn't good work, and someone says it is, or if someone just says that it is bad and doesn't give any reason, that's spam. If someone posts something random and unrelated to the topic, that's spam.
  14. allan_kuan1992: It looks like a lot of some sort. I can't tell which one, though.

But one of the biggest hurdles in porting a game away from Windows is working around the proprietary stuff like DirectX in a stable, effective, legal way. The reason it works on a Mac is because a paid group of programmers was given the money, time, and resources they needed to port it. And the fact that no two distributions are the same has nothing to do with it. If that were so, Any Linux program would require entirely different versions for each distro, and from what I've seen, that just isn't so. In my time running Linux, I've never once had to download a dependency except for standard web plugins that you need to download with Windows anyway, and I've only had to use the terminal a few times. Whereas in the same time with Windows, I've had to download all sorts of things, especially DirectX, and almost every week I have to muddle about with Run... just to keep the dang thing going. And if Linux is such a bumbling mass of code, why does it run so much better in every instance I've used it? So while I'm not saying Linux is perfect, I think there are quite a few misconceptions in the community about its usability.
  16. I kind of prefer the more realistic size to being able to read the sign. Besides, that means just one prop fr as many different speed limits as you want.
  17. The way we feel, A view for EA

I had thought for a while that SC5 would be in '09. It made a lot more sense in the progression of the game. I don't know that there will be 8-cores then. Certainly 4-cores, which are nearly to market already, and definitely 64-bit processing, since Windows "Vienna" will be the last Windows to offer 32-bit compatibility according to Wikipedia. I like my idea of an transit networks expansion pack released by Maxis that would give us a few more transit networks to work with. By my calculations it would bring in over two mil in pure profit.
  18. I think joerg makes a good point. There is no reason for the petty fighting that has arisen recently. Remember, this is the Internet. You don't need to read it if you don't want to. Just remember this helpful acronym: IGNORE: I Grant No Over-Reactions Ever. I just made that up. I don't know why.
  19. Safari to be avaliable to windows users

I think the point is the lack of any menus or anything. Half the objects on the page seem not to have loaded. Seriously, who would actually get Safari for Windows? It doesn't have anything that IE and FF don't.
  20. Statue of Liberty

    Very nice! 10/10!
  21. Road To Avenue Left Turn Lane

It's eye candy. He says that on the description. From what I can tell of the files, he made a model that is a black plane with some lines on it, stuck it on a lot, and called it good. The textures don't match up, there's no function, and it's very simplistic. My eyes like better candy, 2/10.
  22. Timing of SCS

Yeah. That would have to be it. An increased number of transit networks. Five new networks would have taken Maxis at most a year of work. Start selling the pack at 30 bucks a pop, times at least 50,000 people (That assumes that about a third of ST buys it at that price. That doesn't count all SC4 fans or even all ST fans), that's a mil and a half of income. Even if they finished WAY over budget, that would have been a quarter mil plus of easy cash in the bank. Actually, I'm going to go work out some math on this... EDIT: Here we go. This is estimated for the addition of 2-5 new transit networks, and support buildings for them. Cost to make the expansion=$600000 Let's say it takes twenty people working eight hours a day, five days a week, fifty weeks to complete. Way over estimating there. And let's say they get paid $15/hour. These guys are rich. 20programersx8hours/dayx5days/weekx50weeksx15$/hour 20x8x5x50x15=$600000 to make the game Income from sales=$2,593,080 Now let's say Maxis/EA charges $30 for the expansion. I don't know the statistics for how many people would buy it, but let's say a number equal to half of Simtropolis's members buys it at the starting price. That's 86,436 people. $30/personx86436people=$2,593,080 Profit=$1993080 Profit is an easy calculation from there. $2,593,080income--$600000production=$1993080profit So by my estimates, Maxis/EA could make almost two million dollars from the creation of an expansion. Two mil if you add in the slightly increased sales of SC4E, and possible new users. And that's without ads. I say without ads because at least half of the people here would buy it, assuming those features I mentioned were included. The only advertisement you would need would be a single press conference to announce it, and screenshots on the website. The only problem is that a fat cat corp like EA won't care about two million little bucks. Their income before taxes was $325 million in '06 according to Wikipedia. To them that's just chump change to please a core group of not even a million people. Now if we could get the rights and ability to produce that.... it would be a big deal. Actually, I like that idea. A defined group of ST members work to create the expansion. When the tech work is done (not the texturing, that can wait until after approval), ST members petition EA to give Simtropolis the rights to produce SimCity4: On the Road Again, or some name that's equally cheesy. Simtropolis takes the two income, the people who worked on the project get paid a nice sum, and the remaining money is used to keep ST up and running ad free.
  23. Timing of SCS

You are absolutely right, jabezscratch. I don't know if that contributes to the bad response, though. I think most of the bad response is because it does not appear that SCS will have the look and feel of a SimCity game. But technically, SC4 is still wonderful. I personally think that EA could have gotten away with another expansion pack for it. I don't know what they would put in it, since we've done far more than I ever could have imagined when RH came out.
  24. Dirt roads and SC4Update4BAT

I just checked through the NAM installer, and there is no mention of dirt roads. You didn't get it with the latest NAM. Post a picture of your dirt roads so that I might be able to identify which set it is. The most common are Pegasus's MTP set, which will usually be in the PEGPROD folder in your plugins folder, and Trocla's, which I can't find right now, so I don't know what the filename would be.
  25. The Presence Of Being - a MrC CJ - The End

Wow. Nothing like a marathon reading of a MrC CJ! I can't count the number of times I've done it, and I'm always glad I did. Anyway, great work!
