  1. Discussion about City Tile Size

Mountain village tile? The region view with itsy bitsy squares looks just so unappealing. Even if the square blocks were towns, they still look weird. I have never seen a town that is an exact square, or has one corner that is right angle. I have never seen cities made up of same size square blocks of suburbs! The ridiculous looks of the region view makes me wonder if those developing the game still play or care about SimCity the game.
  2. SimCity: Transit and Roading Networks

Unconfirmed. In fact, a lot of MegaCitySim's points are unconfirmed to my knowledge. Don't give your hopes up yet, there's still a few months to go. Em can you tell me which of these confirmed-to-be-no-more points is unconfirmed?
  3. SimCity: Transit and Roading Networks

Transportation features confirmed to be no more, which are very important to me, are -choosing where I want to place my city's external connections, rail, freeway -building intercity rails and custom highways -decide which pre-positioned tiles are rail/bridge enabled -ability to build realistic local train network (won't look realistic on suburb size 2x2 tiles) -ability to build Brooklyn bridge type of longer city bridges (tiles too small) -using god mode to construct landscapes friendly for road/rail construction All of these are not possible anymore in the new game. I'm really not trading all of these legacy transport features for the ability to watch sim pedestrians going back and forth. Very sad their new direction means this will not be a legacy Simcity anymore. I understand this is a 'sim' oriented kind of city sim, with transport sim, not a pure transport sim. And I did enjoy the mixture of sim elements that made Simcity unique in this genre. But the sim/trasnport games I play do come with sandbox mode or map editor. So I'm not going to feel deprived...just feeling disappointed with the loss of a legacy title in my most fav genre..
  4. Discussion about City Tile Size

I had issues with cxl giving us prefab maps with limited resource allocations too, until mods and custom map came on the scene. But this is far far worse! Prefab maps with pre-baked resources and on top of that prefab suburbs in fixed spots, with fixed regional network laid out for you. Seriously, what kind of prefab city sim is this?
  5. Will you buy Simcity 2013?

You're right the new game couldn't be farther from the former Simcities. I'd like to add this thought..I noted this frequently said idea, that even core fans complain and say they hate the new direction 'they will still buy the game anyway'. I find that thinking kinda weird...and unjustified. I mean if people find something so not fun, of course they won't spend money or time on it? There's a huge difference between strong reaction and positive excitement I think? Well I for one mean what I say, if the game doesn't have my idea of fun factors, I'll just ask and give feedback, and if my wishes don't come true, I move on! I won't buy a recently reformed game just to try it, especially if it's a rent-a-game kinda scheme. I'm not even excited enough to find out where the beta sign up is, so why would I buy? Just saying...
  6. SimCity Vs Cities Xl 2012

Cities xl is buggy and leaky, but it is still fun and playable. My answer to the topic question is, I don't know how bad or good SC13 is going to be, but based on what I've learned so far, I'd just say I will not trade Simcity's legacy sandbox features (especially transportation design) for close-up look on sims and cars.
  7. My view of Simcity core values...in order of importance.. I want to say terraforming, transport simulation, customizable construction, god power, control of weather and disaster, zoning density etc, but then, 'core' means like 'essential', or 'the ultimate' value, so I'll just settle with one...which is, Sandbox. Sandbox allows total freedom within minimum structure and rules which covers all the other core values that are essential about this game.
  8. SimCity: Wishlists

I'm at a stage of very low expectation after the Amazon video that confirmed the map situation. My wishlist update is even simpler: I just want an offline SimCity. And I feel kinda ridiculous saying that. It's like making a Crysis wishlist: I want a gun.
  9. Discussion about City Tile Size

Man, this is....devolution. There are no towns, just mini suburbs with weird nothingness in between. How to build a two train station network inside that guitar town? What is the point anyway there's not enough distance to justify train network? What kind of bridges are allowed, I mean, how to justify a proper suspension bridge inside that? The only kind of bridges possible inside that guitar town is sims3 mini cartoon bridges... I understand they are appealing to cityville players with the manageable small size, but what is the reason to prohibit expert city simmers from having map and tile options?
  10. So many valid points you guys are making! From what I've read it is rather clear to me they want to keep players unnecessarily hooked to their system. They had to defend themselves to softpedia and other game zines so they understood gamers and core fans in general hate online-only for all sorts of valid reasons.. The gameplay has no meaningful social aspect anyway with asynchronous connection, resource price notwithstanding... It's like they invented Simworld as an excuse to keep all players logged on. The clue lies in asynchronous, technically stand-alone offline is entirely possible.., and so is independent economy and resource on a region. I have paid for a few sims store items from official or custom shops and honestly I don't mind that at all..I see them as bite-size expansion packs. My no.1 issue is Origin spyware, no.2 typical big game biz shutting down game server to force sequels on users, and no.3, Error 37! Even selling DLC is not a good excuse for online-only, I mean you can sell oflfline players DLC anyway. They just want to control and take control away from gamers.. They should really just do a proper offline Simcity like Sims 3, with a Simcity store with Simtropolis shop (which I will visit very often).
  11. SimCity: Transit and Roading Networks

Yes it is just a 4 lane road.. I feel, with the transport features confirmed to be no more...this simcity is going to be a very lightweight city sim with minimal transport management. I want to say maybe they will be making a rush hour type expansion later, but after this video I'm convinced that they are making a cityville 2.0 in 3D... The video is obviously not speaking to people who've played any versions of previous simcities, like they are introducing basic simcity concepts to a new audience. Cityville type players won't are about transport simulation or mini transport tycoon sort of game so I'm pessimistic about expansion..
  12. Origin is famous for snooping around user's software and cache and selling the gathered stuff. I read that the ridiculous clause is still on their EULA. I would trust 100 small companies before I give EA a chance to make extra pocket money from me. I'm not going near Origin anytime soon... I'm not surprised Origin get hacked, it's like a ruthless govt who's too distracted by their exploitations of little people and baddies infiltrate the govt to exploit the exploiter.
  13. Foot in mouth so sorry I didn't mean to imply a girly simcity should be 'forbidden', I meant to say 'casual' but said 'girly! Core fans in general despise 'casual' and Simcity being turned into cityville 3D, I'm one of them.. That's what I meant, am not a sexist pig I swear! It's true though I haven''t seen/ played any city or simulation games with leaderboards. I think Cim2 will have multiplay (and sandbox and one other mode) I'm not sure they will have leaderboard. Leaderboards are very specific to certain kind of PC games..some of my ipad games have leaderboards, and they are uber casual! Definitely not what Simcity used to be or some would argue 'supposed to be'.. I have to admit the picture of sc13 leaderboard reminds me of facebook city games leaderboards, never appealed to me and never will. And yeah I agree they will shut down the servers sooner or later. It is very typical of big game companies to do that when they want to sell you the sequel! That's why I didn't bother with new online games that used to be stand-alone games like Diablo lll, I knew there will surely end in tears, for the fans, and unfortunately not for the game marketers.
  14. SimCity: Transit and Roading Networks

Information scarcity - like I said I have to dig deep on this site to find for example key classic things like 'god mode' or regional level rail and freeway and subway is no more. Another thing is I find it (intentionally orunintentionally) misleading in the way that Maxis phrase 'there are rails' and then from a core fan's pov that is not even half true. But yes from a cityville player's pov, it's true! I mean look at the slow growth of the confirmed features topic! I really think there should be a confirmed not-anymore topic...
  15. SimCity: Gameplay

SimCity was not a particularly deep simulation game until SimCity 4. Surely it was partly the limits of the technology. But, I think it's hard to argue that a game where you can literally launch small cities into space is a serious Sim. I don't see anything about this new game that's not true to the ideals of the franchise. Though I'd love an updated SimCity 4 I can't begrude Maxis for not just making that game again with the GlassBox engine. The new game may or may not be fun - we don't know, since we haven't played it - but I think limiting its scale was a wise move. Taking a more-is-more approach can cause a lot of trouble. To me less is less not more... The new game is lesser SimCity, how could that be true of the franchise? I could say more about this but there's a more relevant topic here on genre audience and demographics.
