  1. New Screenshots

Some shots I took during beta 2, apologies for the low-res - my Flickr stream is all screwy so I can't link from there. This giant industrial district did not make my sims happy. Loved the stepped exits and the effect of the lighting in the windows on this multiplex. This faux-Home Depot wasn't the original tenant. The building was beige and green before and housed another store, but it didn't last barely a few days in-game time. This tenant didn't, either. It grew into a hotel after this shot was taken. An early-century neighborhood street at just before midnight. Most of the city was quiet like this. The downtown district was eerily so, with most of the mid-wealth towers that grew sitting almost completely dark. The same street, early in the morning, with a bit of life. Most of the folks exited the buildings and walked to the bus stop a block over. Now the kids are walking to the bus. I loved seeing how these places changed between night and day. Now this one I have to explain...No joke, I am absolutely not kidding when I say this. The query card for this building called it the "DiaBeetus Bakery". I burst out laughing at this point. At two in the morning when everyone was asleep. Wilfred Brimley be praised. -Metzger

Sorry, it was my fault. I shouldn't have generalized, I was just angry about the situation at hand. I edited the other post to not say "all". On the other hand people, keep coming up with these shots, some of them are pure eye-candy!!! Anyone care to upload any videos as well? It's alright. I came off a little crass in my opinion, so I decided to just kill the comment entirely. I agree about the eye-candy. The limitations of this engine will be overcome in time, I am sure, but boy if the foundations there aren't strong, at least visually. I'm going to try and take some time to get a few of mine uploaded. I didn't use any of the filters like a lot of other folks did, so my images still borderline on the Sims 3-style default visuals. I have no idea why I didn't change it to one of the more neutral/cooler filters, though I had every intent to do so.

Edit: Original content removed: Off-topic. Forgot to add: I've noticed that pretty much all of the mid-wealth towers have this mid-century modern feel to them. If you get the light just right the sun reflects off the vertical strips of glass and creates this awesome relief and shadowing effect. Little details like that make this game come alive.

Absolutely loving this set of buildings. It's definitely got a mix of Corbu and Breuer going on. Nice!

Hey, I'm all for the modernist approach to entering a building. Besides, I think it's good to force people to think about where the door is for a minute. Keeps them on their toes. Looking good!

I think this building is looking fantastic. This would make a great urban university indeed. One question though: Does this building have a formal entry of any kind or are you going for the truly mid-century aesthetic and forcing the visitor to think a bit and figure it out themselves? If you are, well, kudos. You are a brave soul! By the way, IDS2, did you get my message a while back? Keep it up! -Metzger
  7. Yokohama Station

He couldn't really do anything to the model - APTX made this back in the day. It's just re-uploaded with permission. And much appreciated, too!

The blue one....is that the Glass House (Ford Headquarters)? If so, that's pretty nifty! Really nice to see you giving these everyday buildings some much needed love.

IDS, First, my apologies for being extremely late in replying to your messages. University transfer and all. Rest assured I'll respond soon! Just thought I'd chime in a bit: This particular little building looks like your late '60s-early '80s office box. Personally, I like the first image - with the almost black mullions it seems more fitting to the style. If the building were renovated and the curtain wall replaced, an anodized aluminum look would be the most common choice. For some reason, not a lot of folks like the black glass/dark mullion combination any more.
  10. I believe the real building was finally finished a few years back. Quick search only revealed old photos though. Would be nice to see this in SC4!
  11. The ones that never made it to STEX

Who was the batter that produced this? I've gotta say that's some beautiful Gothic architecture.
  12. Justanothersim High School

Nice school, very artistic, interesting, great colors! about 'cloned' schools: in my area outside Detroit our school district built 2 of each school design during the expansion in the 1960s and 70s. Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference between them!
  13. Canberra Towers Southampton Tower Block Set 1

Are those boards over windows on the 11th floor? I haven't had a chance to download this yet, but it's one of my favorite building styles (especially when they are renovated) so I'll be sure to get it...
  14. Grummels Bungalows

I haven't had a chance to use them, but we have a few buildings like this around here...most of them built in the early 1960s. I particularly like this style, especially when buildings like these get remodeled...you can always do something creative with them! Good buildings!
