  1. I Have No Props!?

Brilliant!! Thanks a lot! I reorganised my filing structure and things seem to be working fine now. Everything is in it's place. Much appreciated! Thanks for your time!!
  2. I Have No Props!?

Thanks for all the responses... Perhaps CaptCity is correct, there may be some terminology confusion. I did however download the SFBT Rail Catenary Prop Pack and that has come with ploppable props (they are all in my power utilities menu), which may also be adding to my confusion. Mister Giggles is also partly correct in that I was trying to plop props (given the SFBT props), and I therefore thank you for the clarification The issue still remains however... I have tried to build EVERYTHING in my city to see how it works (I just don't save the changes) so that I can just go with it when the time comes... and this is where I'm not seeing the props. Do props have to be installed in exactly the same folder as the item they're for? ie, I have high speed rail catenaries in a "Props" folder, and then I have the High Speed Rail Project and all other High Speed Rail files in a folder called "Transport", all obviously in the plugins folder. Could this be a problem? The readme's were not specific on this issue. As far as I understand it though, it doesn't matter where you put the file in plugins, the game will load everything? I was also wondering, I have the Hole Digger Lots, is there one for raising the terrain to create embankments?
  3. I Have No Props!?

Thanks Maarten It's weird, I've placed every lot I own to try find them but nothing... I also have all my graphics set to the highest. With rail catenaries however, I did find them sitting in my power grid menu, so that's actually no problem now. All dependancies have been downloaded and installed, so I don't have the brown box problem, and it shouldn't be causing the missing props.
  4. Designing a City and Region

Thanks! Had a look at City Journals and there is some good stuff there, definitely useful, might even start my own. The Google Earth suggestion is also valuable, it should certainly help getting some kind of layout ideas. One additional query though, I have a few mods that are supposed to change the look of my sidewalks to something more European... but I still keep getting palm trees springing up everywhere! How can I change this? Oh, and thanks for the welcome! This is certainly a community I will enjoy being a part of!
  5. I Have No Props!?

Ok, so I'm new to this whole modding thing, and it is fantastic! I have downloaded a lot of content, including props like freeway lights, railway catenaries, road signs etc... and have installed them into a folder called "props" in my plugins folder. Problem is though, absolutely none of them appear anywhere! How can I get my props to show so that I can use them?
  6. Can't find it?... Ask here!

Where can I find a mod that will replace the palms that grow in high-end neighbourhoods with European trees... I have a city that looks pretty European, but then the silly palm trees just look incongruous. Please help Thanks in advance!
  7. Designing a City and Region

Hello everybody! Well, this thread is intended as helpful for me but also figured could do it in such a way that it could also become kind-of a tutorial for people. Here goes: I have been playing SimCity since I was knee high to a grasshopper. I played SimCity Classic (soooooo glad we moved from there) and then my all time favourite, SimCity 2000 (loved archologies although they did get a bit excessive) and then old SimCity 3000 came out... good in terms of new difficulty levels, but it looked a bit fake and plastic, and the planes drove me nuts!!! When SimCity 4 came out I was ecstatic and saved up to build my own PC that could actually play the thing haha! Anyway, SimCity 4 was great, but became boring and stopped playing for a few months before playing again, and so the cycle continued. The problem... only so much you can do! Now having grown up playing SC Classic, SC 2000 and SC 3000, the only real viable city layout options were grid pattern... it became highly predictable. My cities in SC 4 sprawled but looked like graph paper, boring and grid like. I craved something different. I was never able to really afford updating to Deluxe, but finally did last week... I was like a kid in toy store, wow! Then, I discovered Simtropolis, double wow! The world of mods and lots and plops and all sorts of gumdrops came to me (Ok, I admit, I was very late coming to the party... better late than never I guess). However, now that I see all this power infront of me, the fundamental question still remains begging. How do I break free from the grid mentality and design a truly beautiful city worthy of the ideology I have in my mind... clean, high-tech, green, big, and beautiful. I have also grown up in a country and city where the roads are all generally grid pattern, except for suburbs which just have weird roads. I never knew a city like London or Paris and their street designs which I think add much more character and charm (all-be-it much more traffic). I have also never grown up with mass transit, it is something we still don't have, so laying that out is also a challenge... basically, all the technologies and stuff are new to me (and no, it might sound like it, but I don't live on the moon). Now, my question is simple. Where can I get some inspiration? What resources do I use? Is there a SimCity website with images of players' cities on it? If not, shouldn't we create one? How does one use mods correctly and effectively? All that malarky. I would greatly appreciate people's constructive and useful advice, and I am sure future readers of this thread may feel the same. Thanks in advance!
  8. Downloading Problems

Indeed, it is quite possible that the links are old and broken... I will hunt them down. There were about 20 links, so I won't post them here, I'll just give a solid search... was just thinking perhaps it could have been server side related given the earlier problems, but I think the problem seems to be alright... for now Thanks to everyone for their help!!
  9. Downloading Problems

I downloaded the new Firefox, didn't know there was an update (weird that Firefox didn't notify me) so thanks for that! Just before I downloaded it though I gave the download another try today hoping a new day would bring luck. Everything downloaded fine and works great. One problem is that all links from "dependencies" sections of the descriptions don't wrk and produce a 500 error. Some forum links do the same. This hppens after a short time on the site... This, coupled with the success of the downloads today would perhaps suggest a server problem with sporadic crashes and glitches?
  10. Downloading Problems

Thanks for the replies! To jacksunny: Yes, I have cleared my cache, temporary files, download files, and logs. I haven't tried a different browser, but have tried a different PC. To Nonny Moose: Ask and you shall receive I am running Firefox 5.0 on an Intel Quad Core 3.2GHz processor, 4GB RAM, NVidea 7300 Series 512MB Graphics Card. My operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium (32bit).
  11. Downloading Problems

Hi, I just signed up for an account and downloaded three BAT files on to my PC. Now I want to download a station for my trams and GLR's but the system gives me an error saying that I must wait for my other downloads to finish before I can continue... But I have no downloads active! I have tried deleting cookies, restarting my pc, signing in and out, but none of them work! Please, somebody help!!!
