It would depend on the 'bang per buck', but I'll probably buy some stuff in the Store. Pfff, I've even dished out 20 euros for three city sets, so some damage already done, there. But I'd be persuaded to buy something like a region pack, an Asian city set or a farm pack for instance.

So, what pop-size did you get in the beta?
anandus posted a topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Ofcourse high density is disabled in the beta, but from what I heard a million pop is feasable with all options on. After playing the beta a few times, I've got the jist of it and just managed to hit the 60k-mark. So how much pop did you get in the beta? Any tips and tricks? Do you play with different taxes for $/$$/$$$? Nb. And please, don't use this thread for rants about the map size and such, there are plenty of other threads for that. -
SimCity 2013 Beta: the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
anandus replied to lopes8070's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Like this? *image removed* (Unfortunately I don't know how to turn it on, I'm looking for it to, although it's good to know it's there. Somewhere.) -
The power lines go under the road. As they do in a normal city Have you even seen a city where they don't have the power lines underground? (except in the third world, like Africa or a favela in Brasil)

I feel really dumb, but how do I turn on the grid?
-
Did any of you get any interesting disasters in the beta? Apart from the tornado which you can manually evoke (I believe you need 4 or 6 wind turbines to unlock it) I've heard some reports of people getting the meteor shower (unknown if this is true, though). Unfortunately I haven't seen it in any of my games so far.

It's not completely redundant, it's part of the game's aesthetic. Personally, I actually really like tilted shift. Also I like the filters. And they'll be great for CJ's.
-
I was highly skeptical, but after playing the demo for a few hours I'm convinced a pre-ordered it.
-
I noticed that the buildings you get are dependent on the type of city. When I was building casinos I noticed a lot of hotels, for instance.
-
There's a seaport under city specialization->trading, but it's disabled in the beta. I did notice that it became a lot harder when the city is bigger, when I was hitting 50k pop I had quite a harder time getting my funds right.

I must say I find the title a bit weird, I don't see anything about plopping in the rant and I find SC4 a lot more a plophell than SimCity. You need to plop a lot less than in SC4, I find. You need to click repeatedly, instead of 'painting' when planting trees. Edit: And if you can't find the trees, it's under parks->nature and then the third 'page'.

I'm fascinated by all the negative reviews. I've played it eight hours now (eight times an hour) and am thoroughly enjoying it. And I'm not a newcomer to the game, I've played SC4 thoroughly. I don't feel it's particularly shallow and even with the limited possibilities in this beta I found it quite versatile. I've made different cities/districts from rural-ish stuff to more city-like stuff.

Whatever the reason, they do have additional data to improve their servers for launch

What are you running? Because I actually noticed the game ran stunningly fast even with a nearly full city, and max graphics/AA. I felt like my computer could have ran a city twice the current size. Same here. I have a medium system*, but it runs fine, with everything maxed out (ultra, AA, etc) it's as smooth as a puppy, even with a full map. Although, must be said that I would've liked to have seen higher resolution textures. Bricks aren't 'bricky' enough, etc. Love the lightinng, though. (* quad-core 2,5Ghz, 7Gb RAM, nVidia 460 1Gb)

Well, that's the whole point of this beta, isn't it? To stress-test the servers and see how the load is so they do not make the same mistake as Diablo 3

I've played seven one-hour games now, and I must say, despite a few bad points (especially the always-on requirement) I quite like the game. Although must be said that without region, one can't really have the 'city-feel' just yet, one map is more like a village or a city-district. But having said that, there are some really nice features, I love the modulair aspect of buildings, to tinker around is really great. I also really like the glassbox-engine itself, the way utilities and services are distributed and I like the city-specialization-aspect, it was nice to build a mini-Vegas. Before the beta I was a bit worried that I wouldn't get a proper 'Simcity-feeling' (havind played all other Simcity's and having put hundreds of hours in SC4) and even though it isn't a SC4 yet, it definitely has a lot of potential and I like the fact that, I think, it comes more packed with buildings and stuff than SC4 (but I'm not sure, can't remember how SC4-vanilla was), so that's a good thing. I like content. After playing the beta I was reassured, so I pre-ordered it. One thing I really miss, though, is the lack of W2W, but that's inherent to Simcity, it's a very Americanocentric game. And the always-online requirement really sucks.

Well, if you play on high speed right from the start you might get quite far, I think? Eszpecally after a few hours when you start your city for the tenth time you know quite well what to build where

Discussion about Always-On Connection to Origin
anandus replied to neurokirurgi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
The problem with always-on connection isn't the home-connection, of course, but more the fact that you're dependent on the servers. As we've seen many times in the past servers can go down, sometimes for days in a row, or there can they can be overwhelmed making it impossible to login, etc, which leaves us impossible to play the game as long as there's no offline mode. -
You can play from the 25th to the 28th, so that's 72 hours. Your city will only last an hour, but you can play as long as you want to. The 1 hour beta limit: Just means that your city resets after an hour - you can play it over and over all weekend if you want to. #simcity — Ocean Quigley (@oceanquigley) January 21, 2013

If you're selected for the beta you'll hear on friday Don't worry.
-
I hope the unique Industrial demand is because the beta is restricted and not because they threw away all different Industries... Well they already simplified C... According to the manual industrial zones have a tech level (although I'm nog sure what that means, but I think manufacturing/high tech/etc.?) Also there are different city specializations, like mining, petroleum, etc. But how that effects demand, I don't know.

Get ready for EA's SC2013 DLC extravaganza
anandus replied to el.lopan's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
So, what's the problem? If you don't agree with that model, don't participate in it. "Vote with your wallet", as they say -
Discussion about City Tile Size
anandus replied to alex macnamara's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Don't know if this was known, but I just asked on tiwtter how many maps (I refuse to call them cities ) there are in a region. Mr. Quigley wasn't sure, but said something like 8 to 16.- 1,284 Replies

Get ready for EA's SC2013 DLC extravaganza
anandus replied to el.lopan's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Well, there are already four* DLC that we know of, plus there's the SimCity Store. Although I'm not sure if the latter is the same as the DLC. But you do know that you're not obliged to buy DLC, you can just ignore them if you want to (*Heroes & Villains, British City, German City and French City) -
POLL: Would you pay for extra content for single player?
anandus replied to Asheroo's topic in Cities XXL
Personally I think DLC's would work a lot better with games like this (citybuilders/strategy) than monthly fees. The concept for monthly fees works brilliantly for RPGs, because you have a character under constant development and new storylines. With strategygames it's a different ballgame. People play it, shelve it, and play it again a few months later. DLC's would work a lot better in those cases. Although, personally, I think that MC will notice they've made a mistake with the current businessmodel and will make the extra content available as DLC's after a while anyway.
