Questions about regions, enhancements, transit, modded buildings effects

I recently started a new region with the entire region in mind, connecting all my cities by rail and roads. Hmmm, I'm working on trying to figure out that when I use highways in one particular town, my traffic load lightens up, but then I get abandonment issues due to long commute times. When I just stick to roads and streets, the commute time is cut but traffic congestion increases. So this has turned into a little project in itself trying to get this fixed. I use the NAM of course, but I think it's mainly due to my city planning technique, which needs to be sharpened.quote> As I'm building my region, I've been crisscrossing it with freeways and rail. I noticed that there seems to be traffic across the region. I started a new city, and before I'd even built any zones, I immediately got a "tourist trap", meaning that the area had visitors. -

Is there a primer (faq) about regions, or a thread about them and how they work in the game? -
Viaduct overpass - is that SC4 or a mod? I assume the latter, as I don't remember seeing that in the basic menus.

Are commuter loops only a problem for the region, or do they happen within a single city?

Yes, your post was very helpful. I'd been doing a lot of work on making connections between cities in the region, using road, freeway and rail connections. I've suddenly noticed several CTDs occurring, even in my "home" (first, central) city when I go back to work on it. I suspect it might be the "eternal commuter loop" problem, because I made all sorts of connections and notice a LOT of traffic leaving the cities. Thanks for the link to that subject. I have some reading to do. That's interesting about the freight. I would have assumed that freight travels around the region. Also, I've also had a hell of a time getting any significant amount of traffic at the rail freight stations. Thanks! -
I ran into an issue where I need GLR in Avenue to cross a regular rail line. I didn't find a puzzle piece to do that. Here is a snapshot of the problem area:

Questions about regions, enhancements, transit, modded buildings effects

I'm building a region, and for the first time I'm building and planning with the entire region in mind. I saw that others have freeways and rail networks around a region, and was wondering how much of an effect freeways and rail has on the entire region? For example, if you have freeways running between several cities, do the freeways encourage long distance travel, commuting, freight movement and so forth over long distances (say, 2 or 3 cities apart)? The other question is on mods. I've added transit mods, such as NAM, RTMT, and the traffic capacity stuff. Does this increase effectiveness of regional travel? How about some of the modded buildings? Are there any "super factories" or commercial buildings that have a larger effect on industry and commerce? I'm interested in "going to the next level" of regional planning and enhancing the effectiveness of transit and zoning. -
Originally posted by: ivanisovich I use the RTMT 3.60 transit stations for GLR stations. Takes up less room. It'll take a little while installing and reading through the documentation, though, but well worth it. Search the STEX for it. I just tried it out for the first time today and works great!quote> Thanks. I was a dork, there was a thread further down the forum page that had that file and all the info! And yes, I was really interested in the "tram in avenue" for the smaller amount of room it takes up. My last major city had GLR with the white tiles, and I put them between opposing one-way roads. I also left one tile on either side for bus stations and even subway, if needed. My next city will have the tram in avenue.

What do you do for GLR stations when using GLR in road or avenue?

I need a file from STEX to work on my airport, "ACB-VLT terminal and jets pack 1", but when I download it, Windows tells me the archive is corrupt. Can you folks look into that?

I'm having trouble downloading ACB-VLT Terminals and Jets Pack 1. It tells me the archive is corrupt. Does anyone know of another source for downloading? -

What did you use to create the airport, with the custom terminals, airlines, and so forth?
