Looks Like We Need to Start a Simtropolis Guild
tomfoolery_79 replied to tomfoolery_79's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
They have said several times "play with your friends". Lucy even said "control an entire region by yourself or play with your friends". To me friends doesn't imply total strangers. -

I didn't see you mention the most important part... "we’ll also be giving out a special 25% off promo code during the chat, so come back here the day of the event to find out what it is."

Sim City V I like the V better than 5. Then again, SimCity 5 is cool too. -
Discussion about Always-On Connection to Origin
tomfoolery_79 replied to neurokirurgi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Update to Diablo 3...I haven't had more connection issues. However, the online always meant to help with theft, has caused granted the ability for someone to hack me. In essence, a theft. 120k gold was taken. There has been many many hacks in the previous days. What does this have to do with SimCity? Well, I don't think someone can hack you, but then again maybe they can. How will saved games work? Will it be saved in a cloud? Because what if a hacker comes in and bulldozes your city? What if they release every disaster the game can offer...what if they spend all your hard earned tax dollars??? Imagine spending dozens of hours perfecting your game to have it all for naught. Scary scary thought. That said, I'm still super excited for the game and can't wait to play. -
Discussion about Always-On Connection to Origin
tomfoolery_79 replied to neurokirurgi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
This. Blizzard with their billions of dollars still screwed this up. This is Blizzard! Not only do they have the money, they have the experience and knowledge and they STILL screwed it up. What can we expect from EA? I was playing Diablo 3 and right in the middle of a game it kicked me off. I won't tell you how it lost my progression or how my friends got to keep playing (they were all kicked 5 minutes later). It was aggrevating, but to be honest I was actually glad it was happening. Why? Because I thought "what if EA sees this debacle and actually changes their minds?" ONLINE ALWAYS REQUIREMENT IS A BIG NO! -
I've already been thinking of strategy. My main question is that, with this new "actual simulation" how will that change our strategy from previous SC titles. The first thing that comes to mind for me is that the road networks are going to be that much more thoughtfully planned out. I think this new engine is going to be unlike anything we have seen, so I've wondered how you guys have already started thinking about how it will effect gameplay. Discuss

Discussion about Always-On Connection to Origin
tomfoolery_79 replied to neurokirurgi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
People seem to be missing the point here. It's NOT about having a constant connection. Although that's not cool either. It's about being connected and influenced by the global market. The price of energy is NOT going to be determined by you and your solo play (or the game itself). The price of energy will be updated from a data cloud everytime a connection is detected. 90% of us here probably have a constant internet connection, that's not the point. Personally, I'm excited about multiplayer, but I know there will be plenty of times, I just want to play in my own little bubble. Period. The solution is super simple. A "solo/no-outside influence" mode and a "connected/multiplayer" mode. Having your game influenced from the outside should be an OPTION and not a requirement. -
Let's Talk Strategy!
tomfoolery_79 replied to tomfoolery_79's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I guess I was just referring to some strategizing that definitely helped me in SC4. For example: http://www.fusedgrid.ca/index.php also this guide was critical to my "success" in the game So I'm just wondering how much of these strategies/gameplay will we be able to adopt in the new game. As someone already said, it is too early to tell. However, every sim being an actual sim, every traffic jam is an actual traffic jam, etc. I'm starting to think now about how smart I'm going to have to be. -
Discussion about Always-On Connection to Origin
tomfoolery_79 replied to neurokirurgi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
People seem to forget that EA can and does shut down game related servers at their leisure. Just a few weeks ago they shut down servers for 5 games. When the game has run it's course and it's costing them too much to run a server they'll pull it and now what good is your game? Origin is stupid. It's a "me too" product to compete and take market share from the superior/gamer-friendly Steam. Online Always is a fail and a forced way for you to participate in SimCity's global economy. That said, I'm super excited for the game and will buy day 1 (if not pre-order). Stop crying about mod support. It will come. Think about how much better SC4 was with Rush Hour. No mod support is not a reason to buy the game. -
Dont You Think The New SimsCity Looks Like SimsCity4
tomfoolery_79 replied to SimsCity5's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
This is a pointless thread. SimsCity? What is that btw? As others have stated, no final graphics have been seen. Having reviewed all the videos thus far, I don't think Maxis could emphasize more than they already have that final graphics haven't been seen by anyone yet. I find it amazing the lack of trust people have given Maxis. They are smart people and will make us a fantastic game that the graphics will look great on. -

Organized log of Maxis's Reddit AMAA.
tomfoolery_79 replied to Firebird's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
GRAPHICS: They will be fine. It seems Maxis couldn't be any more clear about what you see is NOT representative of final art. This was a GDC which means it's much less about the public and much more about game development...duh. During game development as companies follow "function before form" methodologies they often will use placeholder artwork to demonstrate gameplay and inner programming being worked out. Anyone with half a brain can look at the videos and demonstrations thus far and can see it's rudimentary graphics. In today's Reddit Q&A they said, again, that NO final graphics/artwork has been displayed. One thing they did say was that they are "aiming for the look of the concept artwork that has been displayed". That looks pretty dang good to me. As someone else has said I think photorealism sounds good in theory but would suck big time in actuality. I have yet to see a Maxis developed SimCity game that I was upset about the graphics. Have a little faith in Maxis people. Look at how many fears people have had thus far that have been completely shot down. -
Lets put all those Multiplayer worries to bed...
tomfoolery_79 replied to BurroDiablo's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
My interpretation/assumption from the two quotes above is that, when you are playing solo you are competing for resources even with yourself not other people. How so? Region play. If you the player in solo mode have one city sucking up all the water, that means YOUR neighboring city over will have that much less water to utilize. Very much like in CitiesXL where, if your city needs oil, you have to go to another one of YOUR cities to find it and supply it. To have a single player mode (Offline) influenced by people playing online is illogical and technically sounds like a lot of extra work. Give Maxis some credit they aren't that stupid. -
So sorry but this game will turn out to be a disaster

There is NO forced multiplayer, stop with assumptions. -
Fully Featured Solo Offline Play Mode
tomfoolery_79 replied to Gamma Stardust's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I'm not sure who started this "no offline mode" rumor, but I never got that impression from anything from Maxis or EA. Of course there will be an offline mode. -
Ok, well, I'll admit when I'm wrong. However they did say in an interview that you can work co-operatively online to accomplish feats like "launching a space shuttle".

Don't over think it, that was a space shuttle

Speculation on the veracity of various early announcements
tomfoolery_79 replied to hamsterTK's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
This is all legit. Ocean Quigley the creative director for Sim City 3000 and Sim City 4 will be doing the Glassbox game engine presentation at GDC. If that's not convincing enough, EA has not come out and squashed the rumors like a company would normally have done at this point. -
SimCity: Wishlists
tomfoolery_79 replied to VeritaScientia's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I'll put out more generalities than specifics. 1. Full 3D and utilization of today's technology. How could you not want 3D?!?! 2. Official set of tools for modders AND for installation of mods. (akin to Skyrim's Steam tools) 3. Backwards compatibility for buildings made by community (I'd hate to give up SimPeg's current works of art) Probably not possible though :noway: 4. Stay clear of gimmicky crap. ("You can ride on the ferris wheel too!!" ) 5. Don't gimp game to make it work on consoles. 6. More in-depth player housing. 7. Achievements 8. More in-depth regional play (planetary scale like CitiesXL) 9. Fantastic graphics and art style UPDATE: 10: As someone mentioned in game video or picture capture tools for ease of City Journal making. -
Unless I missed it, there is no tutorial. I'm very confused on the whole "assign tokens thing". I don't see any tokens to assign, does that mean I don't have any to assign? Can someone explain or point me to a resource on how to do it?
