Hello. Can anyone tell me how many SC4 tiles would be equal to one mile? Perhaps that there is an Omnibus article that I could be reffered to? Any help would be appreciated.

Is there a modd to increase transit station capacity?
trojan_47 posted a topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Is there a modd to increase the capacity on railroad stations, subway stations, busstops, monorail etc? If someone could direct me to a modd that increases the capacity of these, that would be appreciated. -
Building new highways in a dense city
trojan_47 replied to SciTech's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Your city is also one big grid, you will learn to "encourage" specific routes by proper planing of your residential neighborhoods. -
How far apart do ya'll normally space your streets. I find 6x6 lots to be effective. In real life however, you don't often find perfect grids in most cities. Usually its rectangle lots which might equal the SC4 equivilent of 10x2 or 10x4. In SC4 though I find that this can cause traffic congestion on routes perpendicular to the broad face of the zoned land. I do want to make my cities more unique and realistic so this is why I am asking what the community uses. How do you all space your farms, commercial zones and residential areas? Any info is greatly appreciated... and tested!

Does zoning farms bigger give them more workers? I have always suspected that zoning a farm bigger that 4x4 is a waste. I have seen the same amount of workers for a 4x4 farm and a 10x10 farm. Can anyone clarify?

It sounds really cool. I might give it a go.

I agree with the OP on this, it seems the highways given to us in the original game seem to be a step down from an actual interstate, yet we cant build lots on them, and they require huge connecters and junctions with bulky exits. However given that a mile is apparently 100 city tiles, sims rarley travel more than a mile on their commute. All I know is that in my cities, I have to have a highway about every 1/10 (one tenth) mile in my high pop cities just to avoid traffic nightmeres.

Highways/Railroads help

So HOW do we make the underground highways and railroads? -
I feel like I have become pretty good at SC4 but one thing I am not sure on is the most productive mass transit. I have recently tried the on road mass transit in one of my cities, and it has grown exceptionally well. I used bus-stop/subway combos and I made this city with a large amount of avenues for super low congstion. I have tried many layouts for my busstops and subways. I find that no matter what style I try, I always end up using grid style subway systems and busstops. Does anyone else know a better way? I have tried several ways, and if you dont have several direct paths from your residents to your commercial, the subways lines will become congested (red on traffic data map). Now I understand that using NAM (which I currently am) has increased the capacity values, and I have mine on the (hard) setting. Now does this change in capacity reflected in the traffic data map? Should I be ignoring My red congested subway line that has 4888 trains going through it? The NAM traffic controller sets the capacity around 6000-7000 I believe for subways (could be wrong but too lazy to check). Should I be ignoring my congestion indicater when I am looking at my traffic data view because those lines still show in the red when they get over their default SC4 capacities.

Is there anything in particular you'd like to see? Agriculture. Suburbs. Parks. Downtown. .quote> Anything you would be willing to show us. But yes all of the above. And I too was born and raised right next to lake Erie in SE Michigan but I do like beaches. Its why I moved out to CA. I would like to make beaches in SC4 but i rarley do because the land has to be perfectly even and straight to get them to work. I saw a beach mod out there but the image wasn't too impressive in my opinion. And Mike, every time I log on to check simtropolis, you have provided me with a wealth of information and entertainment. It is appreciated! Urban Subways!!!!!

Earliest SimCity Series Memory...
trojan_47 replied to enemyone's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
You've been to Detroit? SimCity Classic for PC then eventually for Super Nintendo. In SNES I figured out how to make megalopolis's. The way to make a perfect city was make "donut blocks" of your different zones and have ONLY RAILROADS!!! So you would have 8 tiles blocks with police/fire departments, parks and hosptials all that went in the middle of the donut. So your map would be a huge grid with sections of different zones and it would all be surrounded by railroad. Railroad produced no pollution and people could use it just like roads. hehe -
Finally someone who knows his SC4. And thanks for the pics. And your transit-stops are awesome. Can you show us a few pics of one of your better cities?

You sir are a SimCity MASTER! Thank you again for assuring me that I was always correct to place the bus-stops across the street from subways. Also when you are talking about boulevards, do you mean 2 roads with a tile in between (totaling 3 tiles width) where you place the transit stops in the center of the road? And yes, great idea with the new stops with park benefits and parking-lot/alley pieces.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your replies, I have done alot of thinking about your layout suggestion ArchangelMichael and I will give that a shot. I have tried that before but i ended up having to grid teh network so big that it turned into a mess. Ill have to use better planning from teh start, or nix my who current networks to create the new layout. Also malefic, the info about the 30-20-10% reduction is something I didn't even know before! I will certainly take stock into that when building my networks. Also ArchAngel, to answer your question I am usin the A simulator, but I already have the other simulators including Z extracted in a seperate folder. Can I not simply remove the A and install the Z? Also, with your theory in regards to "placing stations off of the main transit line" what would you reccomend for bus-stop placement ?(realizing that bus-sub combos make this question redundant, but just have to ask for normal play using normal bus-stops). Thanks

Your highest population on a medium city tile?
trojan_47 replied to Randomtaskk's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Ahh very impressive then. My mistake. Kinda hard to spot those bustops when your at furthest zoom =) -
Is there a group of people that prefer to play SC4 unmodded? Does anyone try to master the art of succeeding at the game without the aid if modds or traffic controllers? I know Maxis' engine is too small but maybe its the way the game was intended? I don't know and I don't judge those who use modds lol. But just for the sake of knowing, I was interested in knowing if there are those who like to play the game without modds. =)

Your highest population on a medium city tile?
trojan_47 replied to Randomtaskk's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
The biggest city I had on a medium city size was about 250,000. But in your pic you dont appear to have busstops or subways? How can you do it without those unless you used on road transit. Well after peering through it I spotted 3 bus stops. I dont know how you can get that big without mass transit, unless you got the on road transit thing. I downloaded that and tried it yesterday and it seems much more usful for traffic capacity but much easier as well. Nice city though, looks impressive. -
Is there a modd to increase transit station capacity?
trojan_47 replied to trojan_47's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Thanks. I am new to ST but have been playing the game since it came out. I only recently tryed the NAM, I also tried a modd that has on-road transit stops etc. Im still undecided on it as I wonder if it makes the game too easy. I have made some pretty damn big cities playing the game legit. Perhaps the question is should be asking is, "If I wanna play the game without modds, what is the superior way to lay out your bus-stops, subways, railroads to get max usage without overshooting the capacity? Seems like whereever yoy get a cluster of residential skyscrapers, you get traffic issues in most of them. I have gone to 6x6 road grids with a bus-stop across from a subway on nearly every street. (when I say 6x6 it mean I have 6 tiles counted between each road both n/s and e/w). Most strees are avenues .Even then they sometimes get clogged esp. at bus stops and subways. maybe i need to do like 3 tiles apart transit or less. Still so much to experiment on, even after 6 years of this game, rofl. Seems liek with all that transit, theres barley any room left for your zones! -
Traffic doesnt show, building radius doesnt show
trojan_47 posted a topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
The game will not show me the radius of schools, hospitals, etc. when I am preselecting them, and evaluating them. They appear only after the building is placed. There is no traffic, no matter what options I toggle on or off. The only traffic I see is when I dispatch police or fire. I know this is a technical issue not an in game option issue. Also when zoning the zone colors dont like like they are supposed to when the game is operating correctly. (I have played the game on multiple pc's so I know.) They seem duller and more generic. I am using a gateway m series laptop purchased in 2008 with Vista x64 and over 2ghz P4 duo core and 4 gigs of ram. Has anyone been through this or know how to fix it? I seem to remember it happening a LONG time ago on on of my desktop pc's with XP. I seem to remember being able to fix it. thats why this is killing me. If anyone could help me, I would love to see traffic again. -
