Hi all ... have been away from the site and SimCity 4 for some years now. Loved playing the game back in the day so this month I thought I'd get back into it. I mistakenly assumed that the game being 20 years old now it would run like a dream on modern hardware, so I picked up a cheap laptop (8gb ram, disc drive for my Simtropolis donation DVDs, clear C drive so SimCity 4 has the laptop to itself). How wrong I was ... Spent all afternoon yesterday getting the game installed (game disc wouldn't work, had to buy a digital version from EA, bargain though at £1.79) then trawling YouTube videos to try and get the game to run better. Looking forward to starting afresh though. Couple of quick starter queries: 1. The game loads ok (I downloaded the installer mod) but loading a city takes a while. I timed loading an empty city, it was 2mins 26 seconds ... my worry is once I start building the load time will go through the roof. Does anyone have any tips for getting cities to load quicker? 2. Are mods (Bats / lots / etc) to be placed in the "My Documents" plugins folder or the main game plugins folder? Thanks!

Quick update...discs have arrived. Yaaaaayyyyy!! I can get back to SC4 :-D

Thanks for the replies guys. I have had a couple of emails from the STEX guys saying they will resend the discs...last one was couple of months ago though, so I've emailed back to ask for the postal tracking numbers (save me having to keep emailing STEX as I know they are busy) so that I can track down the parcels myself but no reply... ...thought it might be easier and quicker just to see if anyone has any spares they've finished with.... I've put my SC4 game on hold since I've ordered the discs (back in May) and I'm itching to get back into the game...

Hi guys and gals.... ...just wondered if anyone has a full set of STEX discs they have finished with or don't use anymore that they might be willing to part with? Donated $60 back in but discs haven't arrived yet, so I'm guessing they won't. Really want to get back into SC4 as haven't played since May as waiting for the discs. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks

BUMP.... .....still no joy here. The guys did email about two weeks ago to say they'd send another set out as mine hadn't arrived, but still no sign yet....

Anyone had their discs turn up recently? Still waiting for mine...

I did consider this but as someone in the thread whose been waiting longer than me has messaged him and not got a reply back, just feels like that would add to the backlog (which I assume is the issue...its all guess work at the mo!). Getting SC4 withdrawal now as didn't see the point in continuing with my cities until the discs arrived, but I'm getting to the point of giving up waiting

Donated $60 end of May, but still no discs. Emailed the STEX guys but no reply....kinda wish I'd seen this thread before hand now as it might have given me second thoughts. Does anyone know if they send them out with some sort of tracking or postal order? I have asked but they haven't replied yet Its nice to contribute to this site as its really useful for us SC4 players, but it is a bit misleading regarding the STEX discs....it says on here delivery within 10-15 days....perhaps they need to change this if its not going to be the case. Its a lot less frustrating having to wait if you know in advance its gonna be that long, rather than expecting a 2 or 3 week turnaround and it taking much longer. Or if sending the STEX discs is not possible just remove the offer altogether and just ask people for straight up donations...might be less lucrative I guess but least folks won't be disappointed.

Ah, so quite a while then...I'll keep an eye on the doormat then, hopefully they'll arrive this week!

Hi folks... ...just wondered if anyone has ordered the STEX discs and if so how long they took to arrive? Put my donation in at the end of May but they haven't arrived yet. Dropped the guys a line around mid June and they said they were on the way, but they've still not arrived. I've put my SC4 playing on hold 'til they arrive and I'm getting withdrawal symptoms!! I play my on a laptop as its nice to be able to move round the house with it (I can keep the missus company on the sofa if she's watching some rubbish on TV and still have some SC4). Went for one that had as quick a processor as I could afford, lots or RAM, etc. Works pretty well...much better than the old laptop I was using which I got in 2004...it was running like a dog on that! Plugin folder is at 350mb so far so plenty of room yet (hopefully!)
