Freight Trucks Missing Textures
edman2012 replied to edman2012's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
I found old truck mods by Simfanatik, and in the download page I saw it notes that they only work in hardware rendering mode. With my current laptop I need to keep it in software mode. I deleted all the vehicle mods I had and everything looks normal! Thank you! -
A while back I bought a new laptop which runs Windows 11 and the game is from Steam. The game has overall run smoothly but one issue I have not been able to resolve is that all frieght trucks in traffic do not have any textures. I did not have any issues on my old computer and have not been able to find anyone else with similar issues. Anyone have any ideas of what the cause could be?

Thank you for all the input! I played for a bit and it's still quite bad...lowering the taxes just by 1% for commercial and IM +IH helped significantly for new development but still no good. For a long time now I'm getting the population to rise to around 95k and crash back to around 85k, even as job demands have been steady (even before the recent tax relief). My concern right now with adding too much mass transit like rail and subway while all the residential areas is getting traffic too low which can hurt my commercial zones, which has been a side effect ever since the abandonment began. I extended a subway line and added bus stops which did help a bit on the north side in terms of traffic flow where congestion was very high. Now, with the image attached there are various job openings close to the residential areas that keep getting lost I expanded the new southeast residential area and here come the no job zots...this city has quite a massive amount of jobs relative to the population which is making this so strange to me....I've never had abandonment like this before. (edit: I also checked various I-M and I-H buildings and a good amount do not have sims working there, some are visible if you look closely)

Thank you for all of the responses. Mass transit is quite low, it has very limited rail, subway and bus. The one area with major congestion is the northeast branch of the highway with most traffic flowing from the north residential areas to the east industrial park. It's not as bad anymore with the population having dropped which was in turn why I slowed on improving the mass transit but I might as well not wait unit it gets bad plus better routes should help regardless of having congestion issues. Pollution isn't a problem, I have ordinances set already too. Also thanks for clearing up the confusion I had from demand and drives xxdita, I was making bad interpretations. Currently most abandonment is R$$ but has affected R$ & R$$$ as well.

I'm having issues with Sims abandoning and I have had trouble figuring out why. It largely started when CO and HT jobs started popping in. As those jobs increased I also increased the education to make sure I had qualified sims to take the jobs. Abandonment over time increased and took down the population from about 105k to 80-95k. I've spent time studying the census but cannot make enough improvements. I managed to get job availability for each type to be greater than the drives (except for IM but the gap has been closing) but somehow still massive abandonment. Initially I thought that perhaps it was from poor education but I doubt it now...with the mix of education levels and jobs how is there still so much abandonment? Desirability also is not a problem. Something strange too is that I zoned new residential at the southeast side (not shown in images). Since there are still many ID jobs I figured I fill those jobs. Naturally I did not add school coverage around them. They did not abandon but took IM jobs. This adds to my confusion because according to the CAM chart, R$ do not take IM at 0-50 eq. So am I simply not understanding how the game determines the jobs distribution? Do Sims take jobs based on their actual education or is it all just from average eq regardless of eq shown from map? This city has really thrown me off... Some notes: I currently have CAM 2.1, NAM 36. No neighboring cities, city is the largest tile size. R demand for all wealth levels constantly high (which makes sense as the census shows a lot of unoccupied jobs), everything else has been steady up and down depending on growth.

I had not been on this website and am sad to see you have passed. I am very thankful for your contributions and I am sure you are in peace.

I just got a bit lazy, sorry about the bad quality. I will just have to wait and see if the game goes back to normal.

I'm sorry if there is already a discussion about this, I couldn't find one. This is what I get when I right click to view traffic: Its been about a year since I played, and I don't remember this being a problem. I uninstalled NAM, and installed the latest version, and nothing changed. Despite the strange arrows and disappearing menus on the bottom, traffic still appears to flow properly. If I look at the traffic map that shows congestion and volume, it displays properly. Anyone know how to fix this? I run windows 8 btw.

I just do not quite understand why they do not simply add the option to play offline, and let us all play the classic way.

It actually doesn't look too bad, but to me its a completely different game. I don't think it would keep me hooked as much as sc4, but certainly seems better than societies. I played societies for a few weeks, sc4 for years. The online play could keep me into the new one for a while, but unfortunately its not the true successor of the simcity I love :/

How do you find where "custom ploppable" buildings in landmarks menu are?
edman2012 replied to edman2012's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Thanks for the advice. This has popped up for years of playing, its too bad i never tried to prevent it earlier -
Although its not really a building, i'd say the chicago spire. Its a big hole in the ground, and probally will remain a hole in downtown chicago.

How do you find where "custom ploppable" buildings in landmarks menu are?

Ever since i've started downloading content for the game in the landmarks menu there are a lot of buildings that are simply named as "custum ploppable" and are almost completely useless static landmarks. How can i possibly locate their file names so i can delete them?
