I dearly hope that I can play against myself. I don't play well with others, and I would hope that if a region was being played as "1" player, I'd be able to build the surrounding cities as well, with no penalties for not playing with others. I have no interest in playing with someone I don't know, and frankly wouldn't want the effects of their city on my own. Count me into the skeptics of the multiplayer aspects. (After watching Monte Cristo fail miserably with a poorly contrived "planet offer", I can't help but be skeptical) But, I shall attempt to refrain from criticizing until I have solid facts. I'm still hopeful that Maxis will do the series justice.

As much as I dislike SCS, that video made me want to install it back on my computer and play it, just to spite the idiocy of that video.

Phillipe just stated over at CitiesXL that the 40X40 is NOT the only size for lots. (don't know if that also means theirs only squares or not though)

That looks so beyond unimpressive.... *yawn* I already had SC3000 why would I want it again?

no they won't be in it

Originally posted by: yunxiang Personally, I find graphics to play a relatively minor role in the formation of a good game. Sure, you want it too look decent enough so that your stomach doesn't turn at the sight of it, but beyond that, games should be more focused on the actual GAMEPLAY, and not how nice it looks. A game that looks nice but has shallow, repetitive, and/or laborous gameplay is not usually a game that sells well. A game with simplistic graphics but interesting and fun gameplay can do well. I can't really say what made Monte Cristo decide to make Cities XL 3d, but there were certainly a lot of reasons to. I know that quite a few people have been hoping for Simcity to go 3D for quite some time. And then there is the draw of being able to see your city in all the different angles. Perhaps they wanted to draw those enticed by this ability into trying out Cites XL. Free-drawn roads (something many people have wanted) would likely require a 3D playing field to exist. Whatever it was, they went 3D, and we can all either embrace it, deal with it, or ignore the game. Cartoonish is definately a touchy word around here. SCS was derided as being cartoonish. Personally, I don't care so much either way, but I don't find Cities XL to be very cartoonish (not much different from SC4 in fact). The roads may seem huge, but those seem to be a product of the wide sidewalks, and there are places in the world with wide sidewalks. Or perhaps not. They weren't really nice in City Life, and I hope they fix this before release, but if they don't, I wouldn't particularly mind. Large trees? Definately, but you can also get large trees into SC4 (and that's before realizing the the small homes in SC4 are mostly scaled up relative to other buildings to be more noticable). Personally, these are small things, and some may even find them to be an interesting eccentricity. The thematic styles of the buildings, the things you would presumably see most in this game, seem fairly realistic. Which means generally, the game should look fairly realistic. Some of your complaints may just be the way that the developers played the game. SC4 can be made to look very unrealistic (either by a newcomer or intentionally). Empty spaces in between buildings can be one of those, or it could be simulating infill. Perhaps this game is realistic, but the developers liked it this way. No, I'm not a minority. You are. The world is quite larger than this forum and SC4 sold way better than City Life which also was 3D. People are not demanding 3D games because then they would have bought City Life instead. quote> This statement rather irked me. Don't forget that City Life was released after SC4. Even then, the more critical reviews for City Life mostly centered on the mechanical gameplay, and not the graphics {metacritic composite of all reviews for City Life}. In fact, this quote strikes to me as a logical fallacy, by assuming that everybody is concerened mainly with graphics, and so people are not demanding 3D because they bought SC4 and not City Life. First, there are people who are not concerned with graphics. Second, a game is composed of more than graphics. Why assume people didn't like it because of its graphics, and not because of its gameplay? Just my 2 cents. quote> Well said, thats essentially how I feel. Also note City Life did sell very well, and there are a whole slew of reasons why it didn't sell quite as well as SC4. One being name recognition, don't see a whole lot of marketing for City Life going on outside of sites like this.

Not assuming anything at all, I just don't see what you see. To me both those pics look fantastic, and vastly superior to SC4. I guess we just see it differently. As for cartoonishness, I again just don't see it. (At least no more so than Sim City 4 is cartoonish) The scale seems perfectly fine to me as well.

When this game finally comes out, there will of course a few stubborn people left that will continue to play SC4 just like you can still find people that play Civ 3 all this time after civ 4 came out. To say the graphics of cities XL looks worse than SC4 is kind of Laughable. SC4 lookes horrible at close up zooms.

Originally posted by: Deep Thought My opinion is, Wii sucks in everything except the gyro controller, 360 is from Microsoft and crashes and PS3 is shockingly expensive. So I give two options: 1. Let a Swedish/Dutch company make a game console, there is much good stuff coming from there. 2. Let the console market die.quote> Thats probably the most intelligent statement in this entire thread.....

I debated downloading the expansion, but I just can't justify it. It seems like a complete waste of money, much like the standalone version.
